This is a great "how to shoot" video for wrestlers. Shooting in with your head on the outside hip keeps you from getting crossfaced, but it also presents the guy you are shooting on with an excellent opportunity for a guillotine. Great video and great technique, but I'd say the warning needs to be there.
@Blahb27 Acrually im a state ranked wrestler from ohio. And when you pull in the legs and buckle the knees you can push them over, but with there knees wont buckle cut sideways using your head to push his into the side of his ribs and sweep his legs out. Way easier and more effective so dont second guess me.
well i think i would like to see this in real time, because a lot of these things look cool and good untill they arent sparring at half a normal rate. i believe that they should show examples in an ACTUAL situation, so we can see if you are good.
Very bad takedown technique. You should get lower, and more level to the ground and go in straight. Grab the legs. Pull in and lift. then either drive forward or cut sideways. Then finish.
P.S. im 13 and im going to make videos on takedowns and other MMA moves
@WeThe1337 So basically what you say is lift a guy's full body weight up vertically, while you yourself are nearly horizontal and moving forward fast, so you can't possibly lift anything, let alone a resisting person.
Maybe you should get a few lessons in kickboxing and wrestling before second-guessing an instructor....
Overall if you are fightin someone with fast reflexs your gunna kinda have a hard time cause they are gunna be comeing in quick as hell.....but you can slow that kinda stuff down with a couple of pressure points or so..and same thing for action and reaction pressure points will slow everything down that their are doing...but thats only if you can get them down quick enough
In rugby we were told to go as low as possible but thaqt left you at risk of getting a knee to the chin if you didd't hold the legs together tight as pos. I'm guessing this is a risky move in mma.
@fredbloggs02 depends how quickly you execute the move. This guy is doing it slowly, but if you watch some fights, you dont have much time to defend it.
@fredbloggs02 You can cross your arms in front of your face until you touch a leg and than rep your arms around the leg. That way a knee isn´t as dangerous. There are some vicious knock outs when fightes didn´t protect their face while shooting.
if you shoot your gonna put your self at risk for things you just gotta be quick and time it right its all a head game dont show shoot or you can eat a knee a good uppercut and or a guillotine
eh well you can but if you good chin like me you can eat punches and laugh it off as your putting you opponent on his ass then ground and pound him till the ref throws you off
Keep your head to the side opposite his body. So if you go right, and grab him so that his body is to your left, keep your head agaisnt your right shoulder, with your right shoulder raised, so he can't get his arm in. I dont know any other away
Lol some reason i HIGHLY doubt this is an effective move. However i do not do Brazilian Martial arts - I do Wing Chun. For a low takedown like that leaves you Completely wide open for a knee shot.
I practice wing tsun but you have time that knee shot right so its really difficult to deliver but if thats what you like to use than its fine but I pesonally prefer to elbow them in the spine.
Not high enough to start learning elbows yet...Lol Done some work but just getting the hang of the basics moving up. been doing it for..11 weeks now. :)
don't worry I just started not too long ago myself I started last year in september I think.....one tip I don't know about your instructor but mine we could ask him to write together a workout plan which we could practice home.that would help you a LOT reahcing the relaxed arms(which cazes me problems :( don't worry about learning the basics after 2 years you're gonna start learning advanced I'm learning basics myself which means the elbow is something you learn soon too.
@luketrials that is true - you can certainly get kneed when trying a low takedown, but they work better than high ones imo. But then again, look at the stances used here. He's in a boxing stance because he's punching - there won't be much power or speed on a knee. A knee is also unlikely as he is not considering throwing one thanks to the boxing distance. But that's why you have to shoot fast and not telegraph it. Still, if you were to catch a knee or a punch, you could continue the shot.
guillotine? of course the guillotine is a threat but only if the double leg takedown is performed incorrectly, anyways the people saying this is a bad take down have very limited bjj knowledge and probs dont even train. anyone whos decent at bjj would know that once you take them down to sidecontrol their guillotine grip becomes inneffective and also sets up a head arm choke.
gullotine is easy 2 get out of jus lift him up n slam him down i have been gullotined more than twice n i kno how it feels u jus gotta man up i fight as a hobby n im only 14
A couple of months ago I saw a guy trying to pull this off in a short streetfight. Two guys started arguing for no apparent reason, and this huge guy started jabbing the other guy, who was considerably smaller. Then the small guy attempted this exact move. Looked like a real gameturner, being surprising 'n' all, but the other guy knocked out 3 of his teeth with a quick knee.
if you're good enough to pull it off, then hurray. its been my experience that it doesnt work too well on people who are well versed in martial arts. its just from what i've seen studying martial arts and teaching.
most people end up getting choked and knocked out due to improper shoots, a lot of people who dont know to shoot properly believe they have to do it as fast as they can and end up leading in with their head way infront of their hips. of course you do have to do this somewhat fast but you have to be in the right range and also timing is very important, you have to catch they guy while hes planting for harder strikes or use your own strikes to set up for the takedown.
i dunno, unless your opponent has very predictable combos and rhythm i wouldnt try this..the chances are high that your gonna lean into his punch lol, not good, it makes more sense to takedown off of your own punch combo or rush the takedown with high guard until you pass their range
I enjoyed your video, If you need help getting your video exposed i use a service at Tubeviews . Net They offer views, ratings, and comments. They helped my video get ranked on the first page

that's not how it works, unless you're fighting an inexperienced opponent.
lets say you are fast enough to complete the takedown, as soon as you're on the ground your opponent will sink the choke.
in fact, by perfoming the take down like that you're doing him a favor, because you've just completed half the guillotine for him.
