I have a 125 as well with malawi cichlids.I have crushed coral for substrate and two fluval fx 5 canister filter,as well as 4 aqua clear power filters for a total of 1700 gph filtration. Why the massive filtration? To qwell the fighting that cichlids so often do i overstocked the tank with 75 cichlids ranging in size from 4-8 inches long fully grown. So by overstocking the tank there is no aggression and tons of coulour and with all that filtration very clear water, perfect water conditions!!!
Nice tank man. It looks like you're running 2 penguin filters(if im right). I was considering on buying a 125G tank as well and was wondering whether yours was acrylic or glass and if you know the weight of your tank + water and decor.
@cod0mw2 hey i used POOL FILTER SAND from lowes u just have to clean it. i would look into SAND BLASTING SAND ALSO the grains are a little bigger in sand blasting sand ..... hope that helps
@cod0mw2 i used play sand in a 50 lb bag like he said it was like 5 bux at the most and i cleaned my sand befor use to get all the lighter partials out so the water docent merk up when the sand gets kicked around i put half the bag of sand in a 5 gallon bucket and just kept sifting the sand till the water was clear then did the same with the other half i love the sand for sure much nicer cleaner look and its wayy cheaper then gravel
@baseballman1321 i clean it the same way you would clean regular gravel except u take off the end part of the syphon and just use the hose then you just hover the hose above the sand the lighter particles ie.. pooo and waste will get sucked up into it. take a lil practice but ull find that its easier to clean
are those power filters all marineland? how many you got? 3?
i'd recommend you use a canister filter though it sucks up more debris from sand and is less likely to jam unlike power filters as cichlids do love to dig in sand and sometimes spit the sand directly into the input nozzle.
good job on getting cheap decor, i spent a lot on my 60 gallon cichlid tank LOL
@aperfectvideo yes they are marine land i got 2 hang on back (HOB) emperor 400 . they seem to be working fine the third filter is from my 55 gallon i used it to speed up the build of the beneficial bacteria. do you recommend any specific canister filter brands.?
