When I fist saw this scene I couldn't control myself. I was Laughing like crazy. Ray's laugh Pesci's improvisation is genius. When Pesci asks "What do you mean funny?" and when Ray just runs out of words and the silence is just amazing.

actually the "funny how?" thing was improvised. Joe Pesci made it up on the spot and Ray's reaction was real. He just kept in character. Joe once said to a mobster that he was funny and he got angry and that's how he got the idea. Look it up. It's confirmed to be improvised. All the other stuff in this scene was in the script of course but the actual line "funny how?" was improvised and so was Ray Liotta's reaction.

The thing that kills me is that this wonderfully improvised scene is the crux of the whole film. There is a point. Tommy is telling a story about holding out under violent police questioning, & uses the opportunity to turn it around on Henry, who struggles under questioning, which Tommy points out. It quite literally foreshadows the ending of the story, which makes me think that though the dialog is improvised, the premise of the scene was certainly set up beforehand

Was I the only one surprised by this? First of all, Goodfellas, being a swears-a-lot movie that it was, gets it quotes referenced really much in other movies, TV shows and video games (as in pop culture and shout out).

As for Miller's Crossing (Doesn't counts as a swears-a-lot movie by the way, its below 100 f-words), it really lacks a massive cult following, and was rarely or never referenced in pop culture.
