It was released in 1951 on RCA Victor 78rpm 47-4392. His second, of four releases, for RCA Victor was "Get Rich Quick" b/w "Thinkin' 'Bout My Mother" in 1952 on RCA Victor 78rpm #4582. His final two releases on RCA Victor also failed to chart, even on the Billboard R&B chart. His first chart appearance was Nov 26, 1955 on the R&B chart with Tutti-Frutti. It reached #2 on that chart and entered the Pop chart on Jan 14, 1956 and topped out at #17 on the February 4th chart edition.
I too was a boogie pianist in the early 60s, but listened to almost exclusively Li'l Richard...but some o' these tunes are a first thanks ever so much for the posts...Beanicus
..Ah,conflicting reports on this. This review is from: The Formative Years 1951-1953 (Audio CD)
At 19 he wrangled a recording contract with RCA Victor and in 1951-52 he cut a variety of R&B tunes. In 1952 the company released Every Hour b/w Taxi Blues (RCA Victor 47-4392) on which Richard emulates Roy Brown, then one of the biggest names in R&B. It sold quite a few copies but not enough to get him onto the national charts. Nor did the next release, Get Rich Quick b/w Thinkin' 'Bout My Mother
@imanuglyfrog I should be the one using the word "frog" in my username! I'm French! Yes, I noticed the two different dates on different sites, but logically, since Penniman signed at RCA in 1951, the first single at least should have been recorded that same year: I can't imagine RCA signing an unknown black teenager and then let him wander about for months without recording anything! What's your opinion?
@ENACODNOM ..LOL....Okay, i'm thinking maybe he recorded it in '51 but RCA didn't release it until '52.....which may have been only a few weeks later..poss. ?

Haven't heard this one before. Okay, I'm no Mr Penniman expert but it's good.
