@SayNoToPC Is it fair to ask where Bird was at game 6 of the '85 finals, Magic in the 89 Finals, Jordan in G7 of the '90 ECF, Thomas in G7 of the '88 finals or Olajuwon in '96 WCSF? Circumstances like ref bs or injury emotional chemistry take effect in everybody.
What a great team. You don't need 5 guys who are great at everything, you need guys who know what they do best, and more importantly know what they can't do.
Havlicek gave you a bit of everything. Scoring, defense.
Cowens gave you 19 pts, 15 reb, 4 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk every night.
Paul Silas gave you 11/11.
Jo Jo White gave you more shooting.
Don Chaney gave you suffocating defense.
and Don Nelson rotated in to give shooting, rebounding, and some clutch buckets when you needed them most.
ginoongkamote, sometimes I make myself to recall what exactly it was like just before I was able to dunk the ball. Just after I followed the training course program at 50inch vertical[dot]com - my skills has been increasing quickly I'm not a bench player anymore!
Amazing that Paul Westphal would not win another championship after 1974. Even tho it was considered a blunder that Red Auerbach let Paul Westphal go, PW would never experience the thrill of winning another NBA championship.
Milwaukee was still in the Western Division in the 70s along with Chicago, the bucks fell short of making it to the NBA finals in later years, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 2001.
@azbaldy5 yes, this was a great series....each team made key adjustments from one game to the next, a rollercoaster ride of a series. Beside the great 4 players mentioned, 3 very under-rated players, Bob Dandridge of the Bucks and Jo-Jo White and Paul Silas of the Celts. BTW, the nucleus of that Celtic team did not have a losing streak longer than 2 games from '71-72 until the '76-77 season, when Cowens "retired" after the team dealt Paul Silas.
@johnsontlast That's an incredible statistic. Watching this highlight I can see why. These Celtics had a lot of very good, well disciplined players who did all the little things right. Too bad they didn't win more titles during the period in question. It would have helped people remember them more.

and won it going away to by 17 or 18? i was at that series and glad they beat jabbar and reberton the celtics were big underdogs and look what happened!
What can I say The Celtics the Best Team in the NBA ever, even in 1974 they we're the best and the Fans in Milwaukee and Kareem all begged to differ well they did and lost, he would lose to the Celtics again with the Lakers in 1984, so Its just plain wrong being on the Other end of Greatness.
Yes, where was the "great" jabbar in the 7th game? Or robertson for that matter? When ESPN shows some umpteen millionth slaobbering over jabbar, they always show the hook that he scored to win game 6 of this, yet they neeeeever say a word about game 7, when the Celts suffocated him. The media loves to portray him in some God like way, but again, where was God in game 7, ESPN?
LuigiLaker, the Celtics deserved this series win. Keep in mind the only games that were won by the home team were Game 2 (by the Bucks) and Game 3 (by the Celtics).
This is not game 6. This is game 7. Game 6, won by the Bucks in double overtime, is hands down the most exciting basketball game I've ever seen. I just wasted 7+ minutes of my life watching this because it is mislabelled. Please fix.
@xSoccerxCorex Whoops looked it up on Wiki and you're right, it was 6 gemes.

Johnny Most is wrong... The Celtics lost the 1958 Finals to St. Louis so they had lost 1 time in the finals.

Bill Russell retired after the 1969 NBA Finals. The PERFECT way for him to go out; beating the Los Angeles Lakers 4 games to 3.

Oscar Robertson's final game.
Both he and Jerry West retired after this 1973-74 season. The greatest guards in NBA history before Magic and Michael came along.
Havlicek isn't too well-known today, but he was one of the ten best forwards of all time.
