  • You really did an amazing job,

    great performance!

  • what scales were you using?

  • Please please please use a compressor next time, I don't want to make my tinnitus any worse. Wonderful soloing by the way.

  • good mood

  • what scale??

  • 13 dislikes. Whaaaaaaats Thaaaaaaaat???????????

  • Really amazing improvisation! Well done

  • Oh, this is really beautiful!

  • thats pretty incredible that you improvised this, it shows how much chord tones make a diference.

  • Alright tons of requests for the tabs, can somebody tab it out please? I'm doing it now but could use some help, send me a personal message if you wanna help out.

  • @seppie1203 ... it would take me a long time to tab out, seppie. This is all just improvised ... why don't you buy my book/DVD so you can learn how to think about music and how to view the fretboard. Then you can invent your own melody lines and you'll never ask for tab again. :-)

  • @planetalk

can you give me some arpeggio tabs then? cause you had some pretty funky icky dirty stuff. i really liked it and i enjoy playing to muted/reggae style chords too. that short choppy sound is awesome with classical music.

  • @Domzxz Cmaj7

  • @Zender0zXD not to be a jerk, but why don't you just try to do it by ear, its probably the best thing for a musician anyway.

  • @Dashooter911 ok 10x

  • I loved and played this more than 100 times myself. The only reason I could possibly imagine why nine people gave this "thumbs down" is they were disappointed not to hear this played through the end. I was also disappointed not to find this version available for sale on Amazon as a downloadable mp3. :) Other than that, this is outstanding, an immediate pick-me-up!!!

  • @BigEZ919 ... thanks so much. Most of the thumbs down came from Brazilians as I recall. Apparently the bass line isn't real bossa nova!

  • BEST EVER!

  • it's so refreshing!

  • i fucking love this so much :DDDD

  • where do you find background music?

  • What scale(s) did you use on this song?

  • Ah it's so refreshing=]

  • I definately agree with bbirt...

I've been learning how to improvise on t sax but this sounds soooo much better!?!?!?!

  • AMAZING!

  • Notes and lines, holding hands. A story for you, a dream coming true. Reality. Stains of old, memories to mourn. Days passing, ever so slow. Telling a tale, the music flows. A river of emotions running down. A warm welcome. Don't hold back. Let it go, leave it be. Emotions drowning in harmony. Feel.

    foolaloof's was better. :(

  • all the little ducks in a row bossa nova row sharps and flats you know dressed in chords living in flats mending while on the go borrowing tomorrow ..it's a go...gravity status flow..patient so patient growing old

  • @foolaloof Are you a lyricist? The poetry of your comments is even more beautiful than this melody?

  • Comment removed

  • @foolaloof I'm glad you were able to parlay my numbers to your benefit. Good for you! But my comment to you is priceless. You are a poet.

  • scale is g maj.

bossa nova is the the most beautiful genre of music.

  • Amazing, yeah! I couldn't quite decipher what scale you were soloing on there, I would imagine G major, the one I used to solo this piece, or ore a D dorian, but it's the same hubub.

Is there anyway I could download this the chord accompaniment alone? It's just so lovely, and playing a lead to it is truly inspiring.

  • Lovely!

  • you play like charlie byrd.

  • Thanks! He was the main reason I started playing back in 1961. He was one of my main inspirations.

  • i gotta buy your book

  • What happened to the other hand?

  • I needed this

  • wooo!!!! its awesome!....

  • tasteful lines

remember though, 'there are no "wrong" notes'

    -JD

  • Georgeous

  • damn! beautiful improvisation. would you like to teach me? please

  • <3 <3 <3

  • wow is a sound very very relax, is of the best , very nice, :)

  • Very Good!

  • Could you do that solo with a classical guitar? It may even sound more awesome with classy. And what scale and modes are you playing?

  • Chord tones with scale and arpeggio fragments I think.

  • i believe he's just playing notes in the background chords. the info says he's selling a book on how to improvise without thinking scales and modes

  • Yes, nylon string would be nice, but then the rhythm guitar is nylon. I like the contrast,

The posters below are right: I base my lines off the chords, not scales. I was never very good with scales and modes, I'd rather arrive at my note choices via the chords ... you can't really go wrong then, and I hate being wrong.

  • now, this is what I call music.

  • monsterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr wow

  • Que hijo de puta este!!!!!!

  • This is just beautiful music....and improvisation

  • you are "DA MAN"

  • amaizing.... grace! lol... no seriously THIS IS TIGHT!!!!

  • excellent solo, added to favorites

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • JohnnyBlueO: put that bottle of wine down!

  • This is beautiful!

  • beautiful indeed

  • Magic - I am so glad I stumbled on this, what a beautiful lead!

  • Then why dont you Johny Blue come up with a more intresting ending?

  • those arent nylon strings theyre steel

  • Simple amazing, really a piece of great musical value, clappings!

  • But I must say; you started your solo more interesting than that you ended it.

  • good, this bossa just screamed for someone to solo over it, nice.

  • thats beautiful mate, simply amazing

  • This is sooo coooool

  • Planetalk--The writing is on the wall...this is a really beautiful bossa nova melody, lesson or no lesson. You should record it!

  • this absolutely great. I can just sit back to this all day.

  • do you have this in mp3?

  • hmm

  • I agree with Kirk, chord tones are most deffinately the way to go when it comes to improvising. I too studied scales for years and years, but found myself relying on chord tones when improv most of the time, without even relizing it it. My solos just sound much more natural using chord tones and less mechanical and robotic. Peace.

  • simply amazing

  • So this is an improve.

Who is doing the acctual song?

  • I'm playing along to the Bossa Nova I wrote for my teaching site, kris. That video is here at YT too. You should see it in the column to the right, I call it 'Sugar Loaf'.

  • excellent stuff

  • very nice!

  • Please make an embeded code.

I want this song on my profile.

I listen to this song when I am pissed or sad and it gets me in a relaxing mood.

  • I love this. I'd love to have it as a mp3-file

  • Download the MP3-to Youtube converter :)

  • I mean the Youtube to MP3. Not Mp3 to Youtube, hehe :P

  • hi kirk :)

i like your improvisation of this song, so smooth.

    i was wondering:

Sugar Loaf ( name of the song )

    __________ ( artist or band name )

hope you answer soon, have a nice day ^_^

  • thnk you, but let say you dont know the chords of the song and you want to improvise then what you can do ?

  • You listen hard the first time through, hear what chords they are and then start to work something around them. Chords become 'hearable' with enough practice and application, and progressions do follow patterns, but, if you wrote the progression in the first place, like in this case, you know the chords!

  • What is the key and scale is this?

  • Key of C; I don't really ever think scales, so I can't say which were used in this. I follow the chords and build my melodies using chord tones. It's a much more efficient and safe way to improvise in my opinion.

  • real nice 8)

  • good playin'! you must have a good ear!

  • So awesome!!! which scale(s) are you improvising with?

  • I don't use scales, I follow the chords.

  • you follow the chords!

    mmhm very interesting!!

  • Well then you do use scales, you just don't *think* about scales: they're the heart and soul of chords. For every chord there is a scale that fits over it. Trust me, I do the same thing.

  • nice touch and execution.

  • That's gooood

  • Awesome!

  • oha be abi bu ne yaw harikasın george

  • awesome

  • hahaha sweet!!!!!!

    its like elevator music.

  • That sounds great!! I'll be checking out some of your other stuff.

  • Some great soloing!

  • lol surprise !

very cool.. I have been playing around with this ..

    great tune.

  • very nice!
