  • This is a very "drab" video. =p

  • a is a, b is b

  • I don't know why people seem to think that using a's and b's in algebraic expressions can be related to dividing by zero the only issue with this equations is that a^2-b^2 is not equal to (a-b)(a-b) it's a(a)-b(b). (a-b)^2=(a-b)(a-b) while a^2-b^2=a(a)-b(b) they are two different expressions. as long as the function is properly executed you can do what ever you want because the variables hold no value until substituted. In this case the equation is simply wrong. But I guess this is what the pub

  • you are divide by 0 and that not true in math (a-b)=(a-a)"since a=b"=0

  • the reason why this is true is because its not true in the conventional sense but in the sense that 0/0 is all real numbers which equals any number. Therefore if a number is real and another number is real, they are both real numbers and therefore equal to 0/0. They're both real but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the same thing. It's all about the way you look at things.

  • If u could eliminate zero from both side of equation u can prove any number equals any number.

    Since a=b, (a-b)=0

    5*0=0

    6*0=0

    5*0=6*0

    5*(a-b)=6*(a-b)

    Eliminate (a-b) from both side,

    5=6

    This is stupid and waste of time.

  • well main prob in here is u cant use different symbols which gives u the same value

  • is that another one when they divide by 0?

  • if you passed year 7 maths, you would've already figured out that A does not equal to B, unless you're blind to see that they are 2 different numerals.

  • @johnyao95 A can (and does) equal B. The invalid step is step 4, it is because A=B then (A-B) must equal zero. You can not divide by zero or "eliminate" (A-B) from both sides.

  • @johnyao95 im not entirely sure what you just said there but i think it was retarded. what is got from that was you're saying that a cannot equal b because they are different letters. first of all they're called variables, not numerals. second, variables can be equal, for example y=x. that is the equation for the most basic line. this is false because if a=b, then a-b=0. you cannot divide by 0, like they did in step 4.

  • i divide with my balls

  • why cant we divide by zero?? its a free country man...

  • @Ramsez lol

  • let's say a=b=1

    (1+1)(1-1)=2x0=0

    b(a-b)=1(1-1)=0

    (a-b)=0 so if you do eliminate a-b results you divide by 0

  • shame on u.damn u r forgetting wat u learned on in ur grade 2 or may be grade 3 lol ,,, rules of doin maths

  • It has to do nothing by dividing by zero. You are all wrong my friends ;)

  • @aehtenap It is the matter of divide by zero . in step 4 u r dividing by a-b whereas a=b , that means a-b=0 and thus you cant achieve step 5 after step 4.

  • @aehtenap Acutally it does. He divided by (a-b) WHICH IS EQUAL TO ZERO, AS A AND B ARE EQUAL.

  • Step 4 is not correct. Because: (A+B)(A-B)=(AA)-(2AB)+(BB). Sorry I just don't know how to write A square. But I'm sure you understand what I mean. So a square- b square is not equal to (a+b)(a-b). What it should be when you are factoring.

  • @aehtenap Idiot kid . why dont u take ur maths class seriously ? a-b into a+b is a squared - b squared . the formula you wrote is of a-b whole squared DUFFER.

  • @aehtenap What you said is not correct. (a+b)(a-b)=a^2-b^2

    This film is wrong because he secretly divided by zero, an undefined operation.

  • No dividing by zero ;)

  • its just because your dividing by zero its like saying 2(0)=1(0)

  • Can't divide by 0. Clever but not enough

  • step 4 is is the end of calculation as

    if a=b then a-b=0,

    hence (a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)

    is actually 0=0.

    done.......trivial rubbish question...

    but very nice argument....congratulation...

    for making life harder than it looks...

    dare to remove my comment?

  • u cant divide by zero yea.

    also this shows u why u should not mess with something

    that was already simplified aka "a=b"

  • If a = b, then a - b is 0.

    When you "eliminated (a - b) from both sides", you divided both sides by (a - b), and seen as (a - b) equals 0, you just divided by zero....so I stopped watching at 0:23.

    You might want to consider learning the basics of the basics of the basics of the basics of maths before putting up YouTube videos, or you're just going to make yourself look stupid. ;)

    YOU CAN'T

    DIVIDE

    BY ZERO

    RETARD.

  • @GeneralOJB He knows this. It is called a fallacy. It's a test to see if you can spot the error and to see if you realized it was a joke. You passed the first part but failed the second.

  • 42*0=0

    0=42

  • ..they have to be there first

  • u cant just create things to subtract and multiply genius

  • Yes actually he can, as long as they meet the conditions for that the given operation stipulates. (i.e. for division, the divisor not being 0)

  • Comment removed

  • I got the answer to be John Terry's Captains armband.

  • Before they can "cancel" a-b, we have to know that a-b≠0.

    Since we assumed that a=b, a-b=0.

    Therefore we cannot divide by a-b.

  • I got... OVER 9000!!!

  • The fault is that you are dividing by 0 when you divide both sides my (a-b). Since a=b, a-b is 0 and when dividing by 0, it is undefined.

  • is subtwacting by b^2 da pwoblum?

  • Hmm, it does work, you just have to use properties correctly therefore using this equation, 4=2, 6=3, 8=4, and so on.

  • the first and third holds true for F_2 (the third also for Z_4)

    the second for F_3

  • I reckon it's correct. According to the proof, a and b are both 0. So it's saying:

    2 x 0 = 0

    Which isn't actually wrong

  • you can't divide by 0 and you don't know what the variable equals so you cant do that

  • (a+b)/0 = b/0

    ∞ = ∞

    This could be manipulated to show that

    1 = x

  • Step 4 - a-b = 0 (as you said at start that a=b) after that all the rest is just fluff

  • Comment removed

  • figured it out in about 5 seconds, as soon as he let a=b.

  • Dividing by 0 breaks the universe (step 4)

  • I'm not very high up in my mathematical career, but I think I can figure it out, sinse this looks like basic algebra.

    If a=b, then shouldn't they be written as the same variable, so you are left with a=a at which point anything you did with one side would reflect in the exact same way to the other side?

    also, in step 5, once you have (a+b)=b, you wanna isolate a variable by combining like terms. in this case you would subtract one of the b's leaving you with a=0

    i might be wrong. not positive

  • little off, read the later comments, you had a point but kinda not how this video is wrong... sry

  • No a=b should not be written as the same variable because in the equation the substitution property is not used until the very end and you can only use that property once, (you'll understand it once you start doing proofs.) thus since your first statement is incorrect so is the rest of it.

  • The given is that a and b are equal, dumbfuck.

  • Step 4 is very wrong ...

    Did you ever hear something called Binom ? :D

  • 2=1

  • ummm! are u dumb or just spreading the dumbness?

  • This is FALSE!!!!!!!!

  • Pentium Math

    (Anyone remember that nightmare? I do!)

  • if a=b

    then a-b = 0

    to eliminate (a-b) you have to divide by (a-b)

    which means you divide by zero

    you cannot divide by zero

  • Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

  • @thrustiswaspinator 1/0 = Inf

  • a-b is 0 and you devided at 0:20 by zero.. therefore it is infinity = infinity. and that is right as far as i know..

  • Aha, but it's not. Unrelated to this math trick, Infinity DOES NOT equal infinity. There are multiple forms of infiniy. Aleph-null may equal aleph-null, but that's entirely different. Through this arguement, I actually propose that the number "0" does not exist, due to the definition of the number "0".

  • The proper conclusion is that both sides are undefined, although one knows that they must remain equal. This is because 0/0 is an indeterminant form.

  • im scared im going to check my closet for the math magician every nite now lol

  • Step 4 is wrong. You divided both sides by (a - b), and since a = b, then (a - b) = 0

    So you divided by 0. This is an illegal operation and the result is undefined.

  • You can't have a number that isn't there. In this case, it was step number two, which is subtracting by b^2, considering there is no b^2 to begin with, unless you originally substituted an a for a b, which didn't happen.

  • Wrong. The problem is in step 4 when he divided by 0.

  • Where did the b^2 come from then?

  • You are allowed to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers to an equation. It specifically says in red: subtract both sides with b^2.

  • you can`t eliminate (a-b) because a-b = 0 .

    and we all know you can`t devide by 0

  • Wrong. The problem is in step 4 when he divided by 0.

  • wtf u dont add it together u leave em the 1=1

  • (human)(0)=(monkey)(0)

    human=monkey

    omg that proves Darwin's Theory Of Evolution too lol :D

  • this holds true, but only inside a black hole or concerning asymptotes, as you're dividing by zero.

  • OSHI-

  • thats like saying;

    3 x 0 = 2 x 0

    divide both sides by 0

    3 = 2

    fyi you can't divide by 0..

  • Holy shit the universe is unbalanced.

  • This is a recycled trick from old trick with a=1 and b=1

    Actually there is nothing to prove here. Aside from dividing by zero is wrong, there are other misrepresentation here. All it needs is logic and common sense.

    If a=b therefore whatever value of "a" must be the same to b. If a=1 then b must be = 1. If a=2 then "b"must be equal to 2 and so on and so forth to satisfy the given assumption a=b. You don't have to expand the equation.

    Nice try

  • and yeah theres one step where it goes

    B(a-b) = (ab-b)

    when it should be = (ab-b^20)

  • i mean (ab-b^2)

    lol

  • you can't devise with zero

  • wow, was that algebra for aliens?

  • its faulty cause a cant equal to be while there another variable

  • No a can equal b, but then a-b=0 and you can't divide by 0 as he did by dividing by a-b

  • Yes..That`s correct of course. But more importantly, the clip begins with the solution, a=b. What that means is, there is some FIXED scalar `x` (say) s.t. a=x=b. So then their step which reads " a2=ab" is really just x2=x2, an identity..and so on, and so forth.

  • a=b is not always fits into a^2=ab by multiplying a in it. For example, what is the answer of (sqrt 4)? Probably you answer 2. However, do not forget that (-2)^2 is also 4. In this case, is 2=(-2)? The answer is=absolutely no. It is similar to this case.

  • it is because you are dividing by zero.

    you can't get rid of (a-b) at 0:17. Because you have to divide (a-b) by (a-b). [ (a-b)=(a-a) , a-a = 0

  • its basically this:

    25(0)=12(0)

    divide by 0

    25=12

    thats not true which proves you can't divide by 0

  • @bronxbombersboy17 Yes i too figured this thing immediately .It is the matter of divide by zero . in step 4 u r dividing by a-b whereas a=b , that means a-b=0 and thus you cant achieve step 5 after step 4.

  • @bronxbombersboy17 This is not an accurate way to depict division by zero. 25(3)=15(3)

    divide by 3

    25=15

    The equation is false but you can divide by 3. The best way to explain division by zero to someone who hates math is: suppose you have 10 sodas and you divide them equally amongst ZERO people. How many sodas does each peron get? There are no people so how can we answer this?

  • @willghass how the fuck do you get 3 if you do a-b , if a=b? nigga u gay

  • @bronxbombersboy17 i know how, in theory. if you have one apple, and an infinite amount of people that don't want an apple, that you can satisfy all of them. 1/0=∞. 1(∞)=2(∞), 1=2! because infinity is a real number, it is right, in theory.

  • false u cant devide by zero

  • Oh crap, I tried writing this out, then, when you had to divide by zero, i accidentally created a blackhole! :O

    lol sorry. :P

  • That's the nerdiest joke I've ever heard!!! :)

  • anything times 0 is 0

    therefore (a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)

    0=0 (since a-b=0)

  • isn't this a proof that proves that a does not equal b??

  • by eliminating (a-b) from both sides you are dividing each side by (a-b) which is 0, you can't divide by 0.

    Good in theory to a person who doesn't get math, but...eh

  • if you divide with zero you get zero that means if you try to prove this you acuatly proven that 2=1=0

  • No, dividing with 0 means it's undefined.

  • 5 (0) = 1000 (0)

    Divide by zero and..

    5 = 1000 !!! WHAT WENT WRONG!!!!?????

    The universe is now off-balance, can you feel the giant hole in space?

  • oh shit!!!!!!!

  • are you stupid if a=2; b=1. so a kvadrat=ab> 4=2*1 wrong

  • Oh please, stop dividing by zero, it's getting old...

  • Thats the Zero-O-Division-O-Error. ;D

  • 2b=b

    2b-b=0

    b=0

  • acutaly 2b-b=1b=b

  • when you divided a-b by a-b, ur dividing something by 0. that means it is automatically no solution.

  • I think he cancelled out the (a-b)

  • two math-profs are in front of an auditorium.

    they see a student going in, then two out.

    one prof says: "if one more goes inside now, then the audiorium will be empty"

  • if a=b, then (a-b)=0

    Step 4 is division by (a-b)= zero, therefore an invalid operation.

  • that is algebra, you can replace a and b with any real numbers, and you will have the same answer

  • sorry. (a-b)=0. you cant factor out a 0.

  • 2=2 and 2=1??? how strange but i just sat there for 10 mins working it out ind ive finally got it!!! 2=1...

  • 2=2

  • 2=2 and 1

  • Step 4 is illogical.

    If a=b, you can not divide both sides by (a-b) because (a-b) would be equal to zero.

  • u can't even divide one of them by (a-b)^^

  • (a-b)=0 ! " the division is not possibal" on ne peu pas simplifier sauf si on s'eloigne de cette supposition .. :)

    bonne journée ! " have a nice day"

  • you can't remove a-b , because it's 0

  • you retard. that is exactly why u can remove it. if something = 0, it is pointless and not necessary to the equation.

  • You can't divide by zero. That's the point.

  • i disagree 2=fish only smart ppl watch fairly odd parents and learn math from it

  • you can't remove a-b from both sides, because a=b, therefore a-b = 0. CAN'T DIVIDE BY ZERO.

  • correct

  • u retard das so stupid

    a=b=0

    well den u can do dis

    123456789a=a

    123456789=1

  • I found the problem!!

    at 0:03 he says 2 numbers,

    but in reality,

    a and b are letters!!!

    wow, i'm so smart :D

  • haha nice;)

  • letters are numbers in math

    You should go to school and learn that, srsly.

    Every math teacher sees letter as number.

  • so when my math teacher writes his name on the board he is really writing numbers??? WOW! i didn't know that! OMG, WHAT A REVELATION, NateFag4, you truly are a man of intelligence! but now i wonder, why doesn't my math teacher call them letters? he always says variables, if the vid had said variable, maybe then it would make sense to me, but because he used the word "numbers" i got confused. Sorry :( guess i'm not so smart ;_; I bow my head humbly at your awesomeness *bows*
  • Who said when your math teacher writes his name on the board he is really writing numbers?

    Who said your math teacher calls them letters?

    I said letters are numbers in math.

    Stupid dumb fuck.

    and you were right I truly am a man of intelligence. HAHAHA

    DUMBASS!

    I bow ma head humbly at your sheer stupidity.

    *bows*

  • Oh BTW, you think you spell my name that way and it would be funny, huh?

    Yeah it's very funny. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    But you should go to school and learn English first if you can't even spell my name right, brat.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    WOW! OMG WHAT A REVELATION,

    I'm so amazed at your incredible stupidity. You must have gotten that stupidity from your parents. OMG!

  • me no can spell? ;_; oh yeah, you are a very smart guy NateFap4...(/sarcasm) how old are you? don't you know fighting online is stupid? it's like being in the Special Olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded. by the way, learn to read, i asked "why DOESN'T he call them letters" you said math teachers see letters as numbers, obviously his name is made up of letters, which to him are numbers, so name = made up of #'s. can you follow that?
  • I'm retarded? HAHAHA

    You said I'm a man of intelligence. HAHAHA

    DUMBASS!

    If you can't distinguish English and Math then go to school and learn how to do so. But no school will teach you that cuz it's a common sense and everyone in the world can distinguish English and Math without learning EXCEPT YOU! DUMBASS!

    OK so before replying this comment go figure out the difference between English and Math first. Then you can reply.

  • Can you not read? (rhetorical question)

    I never called you retarded,

    read again.

    I said fighting online is for retards,

    if you think it applied to you,

    then maybe it does,

    but i never said any such thing,

    and when i said you were a man of intelligence i was obviously being sarcastic.

    when it comes to school,

    i only go for the free lunch lol

  • and when I said you were stupid I was serious lol

    I didn't know I got in fight Stupid Ass

  • dude...your a fag

  • Your mom's a fag.

  • wow your so extremely funny

  • again, you fail to read and understand... and you say I don't know english... i never said you got in a fight, i said fighting online is for retards, i never said you were fighting, also, it's supposed to read "got in a fight" not "got in fight" seriously, finish school before attempting to insult others, you call people dumbasses and yet your intellect lies far beneath those you attempt to troll/hassle. you fail. you are a waste of life.
  • Who said I fail? Who said I was fighting?

    You fail to read. Stupid Ass.

    You are a waste of the society. Go suicide. lolololol

  • Wow i think you need to work on grammar nate. Go suicide? Yeah, thats excatly how you use the english language. Now i really belive you are a good reader.

  • Hahaha. Wow! ok my grammar is horrible but at least I know that a person's name needs to be capitalized, like Nate not nate. I also know how to spell "exactly" and "believe." Hey man, look in the mirror and see yourself first before even think about teaching others. DUMBASS!

  • what the fuck does looking at my self in the mirror have to do with teaching. And oh yeah im sorry i can't type but i still know how to spell

  • everyone knows that 2=1...

  • LMAO sevenriderairforce

  • If a=b, then a-b=0 and you can't divide by 0.

  • Chuck Norris is the only person that can divide by zero...

  • lolololololol :D

  • Well as if this hasn't come to anyone's attention in the past few trillion comments, you can't divide by zero. But it seems like a fun trick to pull on fifth graders I bet...

  • a-b=0. you can't devide by 0

  • a-b is zero, you fool! You great fool! You can't just go willy-nilly, "eliminating" expressions from an equation without first meeting the strict criterion of your so-called "elimination".

    You must equate the equation! Crossing out binomials with no regard for decimal life will doom us all!!! DOOM US ALL, I SAY!!!!!!

    ...was that melodramatic enough?

  • doom us all.

    do you believe in black holes?

    black holes are the places where god tried dividing by zero.

  • black hoes are actually areas wherein escape velocity from the gravitational field exceeds the speed of light.

    Not many people know this, but god actually sucks at math.

  • I would kinda have to agree on both comments.

  • idont belive in god but this seems logical. ive al ways wondered what a white hole is though. whats your idea of that? :D

  • Do you know the difference between black magic and white magic? :D

  • eurmmmm one is white and one is black? :D

  • Great illustration of why rigor is needed in math :-)

  • You go wrong in step 4 where you divide by zero (a-b)=0 since a=b ^^

  • you went wrong because 2 doesnt = 1 :)

  • you went wrong at the start!

    you already have the variables :3

  • easy! u are dividing by a-b, that would b = 0 and u cant divide by 0

  • one question in step 2 where did you get the b squared from to be able to subtract it?

  • In an algebraic equation, you can do anything you want as long as you do it to both sides. He subtracted b^2 so the equality of the equation remained.

  • Well you can't divide by zero in algebra so that would explain why 2 does not equal 1.

  • you went wrong in step 3... !

    you cannot factorise 0=0 !! ! !

  • a=b => a-b=0 you cannot divede by 0!!

  • you cannot divide (a-b) cause it's = to 0 and you cannot divide for 0..

  • I think step 5 is wrong..

  • step 5 can't exist: you can't take (a-b) form both sides...

  • a - b >= 0

  • divided by ZERO!

  • huhhooommm!!! LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS VERY DANGEROUS. You are showing a very wrong process. know your maths properly before making this kind of videO. When you imposed (-b squared) on both sides... both sides has since been equal to zero. and when you factored bothsides, you actually factored-out zero on both sides. Remember this voids any of its coefficients as any of them multiplied to zero is zero.

  • you can't eliminate the (a-b) because a-b is 0...

    greek brain!!

  • this video is funny, lol, ur comments people, however, are 10 times more ridiculous:P

  • lol, soooooo wrong. u cant divide by 0 (zero)fucktart.......u learn that in like grade 3-5
