I don't know why people seem to think that using a's and b's in algebraic expressions can be related to dividing by zero the only issue with this equations is that a^2-b^2 is not equal to (a-b)(a-b) it's a(a)-b(b). (a-b)^2=(a-b)(a-b) while a^2-b^2=a(a)-b(b) they are two different expressions. as long as the function is properly executed you can do what ever you want because the variables hold no value until substituted. the reason why this is true is because its not true in the conventional sense but in the sense that 0/0 is all real numbers which equals any number. Therefore if a number is real and another number is real, they are both real numbers and therefore equal to 0/0. They're both real but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the same thing. It's all about the way you look at things.
if you passed year 7 maths, you would've already figured out that A does not equal to B, unless you're blind to see that they are 2 different numerals.
@johnyao95 A can (and does) equal B. The invalid step is step 4, it is because A=B then (A-B) must equal zero. You can not divide by zero or "eliminate" (A-B) from both sides.
@johnyao95 im not entirely sure what you just said there but i think it was retarded. what is got from that was you're saying that a cannot equal b because they are different letters. first of all they're called variables, not numerals. second, variables can be equal, for example y=x. that is the equation for the most basic line. this is false because if a=b, then a-b=0. you cannot divide by 0, like they did in step 4.
@aehtenap It is the matter of divide by zero . in step 4 u r dividing by a-b whereas a=b , that means a-b=0 and thus you cant achieve step 5 after step 4.
Step 4 is not correct. Because: (A+B)(A-B)=(AA)-(2AB)+(BB). Sorry I just don't know how to write A square. But I'm sure you understand what I mean. So a square- b square is not equal to (a+b)(a-b). What it should be when you are factoring.

@GeneralOJB He knows this. It is called a fallacy. It's a test to see if you can spot the error and to see if you realized it was a joke. You passed the first part but failed the second.
I'm not very high up in my mathematical career, but I think I can figure it out, sinse this looks like basic algebra.
If a=b, then shouldn't they be written as the same variable, so you are left with a=a at which point anything you did with one side would reflect in the exact same way to the other side?
also, in step 5, once you have (a+b)=b, you wanna isolate a variable by combining like terms. in this case you would subtract one of the b's leaving you with a=0
No a=b should not be written as the same variable because in the equation the substitution property is not used until the very end and you can only use that property once, (you'll understand it once you start doing proofs.) thus since your first statement is incorrect so is the rest of it.
Aha, but it's not. Unrelated to this math trick, Infinity DOES NOT equal infinity. There are multiple forms of infiniy. Aleph-null may equal aleph-null, but that's entirely different. Through this arguement, I actually propose that the number "0" does not exist, due to the definition of the number "0".
You can't have a number that isn't there. In this case, it was step number two, which is subtracting by b^2, considering there is no b^2 to begin with, unless you originally substituted an a for a b, which didn't happen.
This is a recycled trick from old trick with a=1 and b=1
Actually there is nothing to prove here. Aside from dividing by zero is wrong, there are other misrepresentation here. All it needs is logic and common sense.
If a=b therefore whatever value of "a" must be the same to b. If a=1 then b must be = 1. If a=2 then "b"must be equal to 2 and so on and so forth to satisfy the given assumption a=b. You don't have to expand the equation.
Yes..That`s correct of course. But more importantly, the clip begins with the solution, a=b. What that means is, there is some FIXED scalar `x` (say) s.t. a=x=b. So then their step which reads " a2=ab" is really just x2=x2, an identity..and so on, and so forth.
a=b is not always fits into a^2=ab by multiplying a in it. For example, what is the answer of (sqrt 4)? Probably you answer 2. However, do not forget that (-2)^2 is also 4. In this case, is 2=(-2)? The answer is=absolutely no. It is similar to this case.
@bronxbombersboy17 Yes i too figured this thing immediately .It is the matter of divide by zero . in step 4 u r dividing by a-b whereas a=b , that means a-b=0 and thus you cant achieve step 5 after step 4.
@bronxbombersboy17 This is not an accurate way to depict division by zero. 25(3)=15(3)
divide by 3
25=15
The equation is false but you can divide by 3. The best way to explain division by zero to someone who hates math is: suppose you have 10 sodas and you divide them equally amongst ZERO people. How many sodas does each peron get? There are no people so how can we answer this?
@bronxbombersboy17 i know how, in theory. if you have one apple, and an infinite amount of people that don't want an apple, that you can satisfy all of them. 1/0=∞. 1(∞)=2(∞), 1=2! because infinity is a real number, it is right, in theory.
so when my math teacher writes his name on the board he is really writing numbers??? WOW! i didn't know that! OMG, WHAT A REVELATION, NateFag4, you truly are a man of intelligence! but now i wonder, why doesn't my math teacher call them letters? he always says variables, if the vid had said variable, maybe then it would make sense to me, but because he used the word "numbers" i got confused. Sorry :( guess i'm not so smart ;_; I bow my head humbly at your awesomeness *bows*
me no can spell? ;_; oh yeah, you are a very smart guy NateFap4...(/sarcasm) how old are you? don't you know fighting online is stupid? it's like being in the Special Olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded. by the way, learn to read, i asked "why DOESN'T he call them letters" you said math teachers see letters as numbers, obviously his name is made up of letters, which to him are numbers, so name = made up of #'s. can you follow that?
If you can't distinguish English and Math then go to school and learn how to do so. But no school will teach you that cuz it's a common sense and everyone in the world can distinguish English and Math without learning EXCEPT YOU! DUMBASS!
OK so before replying this comment go figure out the difference between English and Math first. Then you can reply.
again, you fail to read and understand... and you say I don't know english... i never said you got in a fight, i said fighting online is for retards, i never said you were fighting, also, it's supposed to read "got in a fight" not "got in fight" seriously, finish school before attempting to insult others, you call people dumbasses and yet your intellect lies far beneath those you attempt to troll/hassle. you fail. you are a waste of life.
Wow i think you need to work on grammar nate. Go suicide? Yeah, thats excatly how you use the english language. Now i really belive you are a good reader.
Hahaha. Wow! ok my grammar is horrible but at least I know that a person's name needs to be capitalized, like Nate not nate. I also know how to spell "exactly" and "believe." Hey man, look in the mirror and see yourself first before even think about teaching others. DUMBASS!
Well as if this hasn't come to anyone's attention in the past few trillion comments, you can't divide by zero. But it seems like a fun trick to pull on fifth graders I bet...
a-b is zero, you fool! You great fool! You can't just go willy-nilly, "eliminating" expressions from an equation without first meeting the strict criterion of your so-called "elimination".
You must equate the equation! Crossing out binomials with no regard for decimal life will doom us all!!! DOOM US ALL, I SAY!!!!!!
In an algebraic equation, you can do anything you want as long as you do it to both sides. He subtracted b^2 so the equality of the equation remained.
huhhooommm!!! LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS VERY DANGEROUS. You are showing a very wrong process. know your maths properly before making this kind of videO. When you imposed (-b squared) on both sides... both sides has since been equal to zero. and when you factored bothsides, you actually factored-out zero on both sides. Remember this voids any of its coefficients as any of them multiplied to zero is zero.
This is a very "drab" video. =p

Since a=b, (a-b)=0

Eliminate (a-b) from both side,

i disagree 2=fish only smart ppl watch fairly odd parents and learn math from it
theGel0 3 years ago
you can't remove a-b from both sides, because a=b, therefore a-b = 0. CAN'T DIVIDE BY ZERO.

correct
justinroxatsocom 3 years ago
u retard das so stupid
a=b=0
well den u can do dis
123456789a=a
123456789=1

I found the problem!!
at 0:03 he says 2 numbers,
but in reality,
a and b are letters!!!
wow, i'm so smart :D
MensoJero 3 years ago
haha nice;)
zphi22 3 years ago
letters are numbers in math
You should go to school and learn that, srsly.
Every math teacher sees letter as number.

MensoJero 3 years ago
Who said when your math teacher writes his name on the board he is really writing numbers?
Who said your math teacher calls them letters?
I said letters are numbers in math.
Stupid dumb fuck.
and you were right I truly am a man of intelligence. HAHAHA
DUMBASS!
I bow ma head humbly at your sheer stupidity.
*bows*
NateFab4 3 years ago
Oh BTW, you think you spell my name that way and it would be funny, huh?
Yeah it's very funny. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
But you should go to school and learn English first if you can't even spell my name right, brat.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
WOW! OMG WHAT A REVELATION,
I'm so amazed at your incredible stupidity. You must have gotten that stupidity from your parents. OMG!
NateFab4 3 years ago
MensoJero 3 years ago
I'm retarded? HAHAHA
You said I'm a man of intelligence. HAHAHA
DUMBASS!
NateFab4 3 years ago
Can you not read? (rhetorical question)
I never called you retarded,
read again.
I said fighting online is for retards,
if you think it applied to you,
then maybe it does,
but i never said any such thing,
and when i said you were a man of intelligence i was obviously being sarcastic.
when it comes to school,
i only go for the free lunch lol

and when I said you were stupid I was serious lol
I didn't know I got in fight Stupid Ass

You fail to read. Stupid Ass.
You are a waste of the society. Go suicide. lolololol
NateFab4 3 years ago
Wow i think you need to work on grammar nate. Go suicide? Yeah, thats excatly how you use the english language. Now i really belive you are a good reader.
wingy480 3 years ago
Hahaha. Wow! ok my grammar is horrible but at least I know that a person's name needs to be capitalized, like Nate not nate. I also know how to spell "exactly" and "believe." Hey man, look in the mirror and see yourself first before even think about teaching others. DUMBASS!
NateFab4 3 years ago
what the fuck does looking at my self in the mirror have to do with teaching. And oh yeah im sorry i can't type but i still know how to spell

everyone knows that 2=1...

If a=b, then a-b=0 and you can't divide by 0.

Chuck Norris is the only person that can divide by zero...

lolololololol :D
spallcast 3 years ago
Well as if this hasn't come to anyone's attention in the past few trillion comments, you can't divide by zero. But it seems like a fun trick to pull on fifth graders I bet...
SevenRiderAirForce 3 years ago
a-b=0. you can't devide by 0
kornlp66 3 years ago
a-b is zero, you fool! You great fool! You can't just go willy-nilly, "eliminating" expressions from an equation without first meeting the strict criterion of your so-called "elimination".
You must equate the equation! Crossing out binomials with no regard for decimal life will doom us all!!! DOOM US ALL, I SAY!!!!!!
...was that melodramatic enough?
TheEggBeast 3 years ago
doom us all.
do you believe in black holes?
black holes are the places where god tried dividing by zero.
CorbeauBlanc 3 years ago
black hoes are actually areas wherein escape velocity from the gravitational field exceeds the speed of light.
Not many people know this, but god actually sucks at math.
TheEggBeast 3 years ago
I would kinda have to agree on both comments.
spallcast 3 years ago
idont belive in god but this seems logical. ive al ways wondered what a white hole is though. whats your idea of that? :D
zerowusabitacoz 3 years ago
Do you know the difference between black magic and white magic? :D
CorbeauBlanc 3 years ago
eurmmmm one is white and one is black? :D
zerowusabitacoz 3 years ago
Great illustration of why rigor is needed in math :-)
ffasdfaasdfdsafsadfa 3 years ago
You go wrong in step 4 where you divide by zero (a-b)=0 since a=b ^^
Kiranja 3 years ago 2
you went wrong because 2 doesnt = 1 :)
spenneps1 3 years ago
you went wrong at the start!
you already have the variables :3
AuburnAttack21 3 years ago
easy! u are dividing by a-b, that would b = 0 and u cant divide by 0
chrism216 3 years ago 5
one question in step 2 where did you get the b squared from to be able to subtract it?
Breaknout 3 years ago
In an algebraic equation, you can do anything you want as long as you do it to both sides. He subtracted b^2 so the equality of the equation remained.
ygoloeht 3 years ago
Well you can't divide by zero in algebra so that would explain why 2 does not equal 1.
SevenRiderAirForce 3 years ago
you went wrong in step 3... !
you cannot factorise 0=0 !! ! !
hsbutoy 3 years ago
a=b => a-b=0 you cannot divede by 0!!
KOSOVOisSERBIA1 3 years ago 2
you cannot divide (a-b) cause it's = to 0 and you cannot divide for 0..
ZeUsEdO 3 years ago 5
I think step 5 is wrong..
Teevemuffin 3 years ago
step 5 can't exist: you can't take (a-b) form both sides...
Rensra 3 years ago
a - b >= 0
C11235813F 3 years ago
divided by ZERO!
qzong8p 3 years ago 2
huhhooommm!!!
Paquialamero 3 years ago
you can't eliminate the (a-b) because a-b is 0...
greek brain!!

this video is funny, lol, ur comments people, however, are 10 times more ridiculous:P
