I started in 1985 when it was the most uncrowded ever, now it's so packed no one can surf good & it's plain dumb. You should instead promote more San Jose skateparks or surf reefs to accommodate the crowds or bust; we'll never get out taxes worth. When the phony economy is finally wholly realized surfers will once again be airhead bums just like in yr 1970-1999

You cannot hide from looking like a kook. Ask questions, and most importantly learn to duck dive. Never ever let go of your board. You can duck dive a 10 ft longboard if you know how. You will remain a kook forever if you dont ask questions and it will be obvious out in the water. Dont be a hazard and show respect, learn etiquette and you will progress.
