You get Cruise who has two expressions "dull" and "angry" who makes millions when Pinchot who has such an expressive face and emotional depth can't get parts in a commercial.

I give Bronson his one pass, because he was involved in a movie that was better than anything Cruise, Midler, or Washington ever came near. True Romance. He was a small part yes, but he was very funny. If you havent seen it, do so. Hopper, Walken, Slater, Kilmer, Pitt, Gandolfini, the Fretelli from the Goonies who wasn't Joe Pantoliano, Oldman, Sam L, Rappaoport, and was written by Tarantino. SEE THIS MOVIE.

Trust me, the guy is an absolute prick. But I took great pleasure in the fact that the pilot didn't even get shot -- Warren Littlefield (head of NBC at the time) actually killed it half-way through the network run-through. God I loved that. Dumbest 4-camera pilot I've ever worked on -- and I did some real stinkers.

That part of the whole TV process confuses me. How do truly bad shows even get made? Does an actor get a group of investors to bankroll some writers and make up a screenplay then they film a pilot and try to get a network to pick it up and pay for a slate of episodes for a whole season? I just wonder how they get any sort of production when it's all based on truly unfunny comedy in the first place...?

Writers/producers/actors get development deals with a studio; these deals are made long before a pilot is written (the deal could be for multiple pilots). In this case, Bronson and his "girlfriend" (beard), Amy Heckerling (of "Fast Times At Ridgemont High Fame") had a deal with NBC. A star of a former hit show and a major director are fairly good bets from a studio perspective. But this show was HORRIBLE. Bad shit gets made, though, because bad shit also does well. How to know beforehand?

I'm so 80s. Perfect Strangers was my favorite show and Balki will always be my fave character from 80s sitcoms.
Pinchot is actually an awesome actor with a lot of range. He just got typecast doing a lot of foreigner roles that never took him anywhere. It's amazing how that happens in Hollywood. You get Cruise who has two expressions "dull" and "angry" who makes millions when Pinchot who has such an expressive face and emotional depth can't get parts in a commercial.

Far from it. What "facts" do you need? A study showing projection? If you have a decent education you would at least have a psych 101 background.
