Actually, that one crime scene wasn't the only time Natalie witnessed GSR. At the end of Empty Eyes, Grissom has his arm around Sara and they are walking together. You see a female Janitor watching them if you look closely enough. Of course Natalie didn't care about GSR until Ernie blew his brains out. The song at the end is I've Got A Pain in My Sawdust and Ernie taught it to her.

well, the miniture killer blames Grissom for the death of her adoptive father(or some kind of father) who is the only person she loved even though he killed himself after covering up her murders. At some crime scene, she sees Grissom rub his hand down Sara's arm(in other words, she knows he loves Sara). So for revenge, the miniture killer tries to kill Sara, the only person Grissom loves.
