I've always loved Schnabel's work, mostly because as a painter myself, I saw his rise to stardom as a salute to "art brute" and the lineage of Jean DuBuffet, one of my favorite artists, especially his early work dealing with texture and childlike images. He was so agressively macho and egocentric in his claim to artistdom! I loved it! Now I love seeing his transformation as an artist who sees and feels so much without regard for medium as a master, i.e. he'll use whatever medium is necessary.
