ignoring facts is counter-intuitive to gaining knowledge. so ignoring people's skin color is not a solution. a better solution is to celebrate our individuality, our diverse cultures and showing support for each other and that's what these months are about. identifying someone as Indian, Russian, Thai, etc is NOT being racist. it's acknowledging the difference between you and them and hopefully the beauty in the fact that we don't all look alike, as well.

It would seem your heart is in the right place, but in saying "Don't celebrate the minorities" it comes off HORRIBLY. If I may, I think what you're looking to say is that in celebrating the minorities, we're defining them AS minorities, and thus categorizing them. Labels negate other possibilities, and that seems to be what you're trying to get across. Skin color will always be noticeable, but it's our association that needs to change.

Open up your history books, think about when you were learning about American History at school, think about the amount of black people you learned about who provided this country with something. The likely answer is none. Eliminating black history month whitewashes everything. Until black history actually becomes integrated into what we understand as American history, Black history month is necessary. Read the description of the 1st video - she states that she would prefer to have what's presented during Black History Month (IE the history, and impact thereof, of black people) integrated into general American History. It would seem your heart is in the right place, but in saying "Don't celebrate the minorities" it comes off HORRIBLY. If I may, I think what you're looking to say is that in celebrating the minorities, we're defining them AS minorities, and thus categorizing them. Labels negate other possibilities, and that seems to be what you're trying to get across. Skin color will always be noticeable, but it's our association that needs to change.

i suggest you do away with referring to every other race as "the other people" or " the minorities" as it can sound racist. it can be summed up as follows: i hate black history month for the very reason it even exists. it puts emphasis on race and is unhealthy in our developing world. history should be taught with a neutral viewpoint, explaining the events that allowed atrocities to take place and those who rose against it. black history should be kept but only as part of the overall history

Open up your history books, think about when you were learning about American History at school, think about the amount of black people you learned about who provided this country with something. The likely answer is none. Eliminating black history month whitewashes everything. Until black history actually becomes integrated into what we understand as American history, Black history month is necessary. Unless you personally know her, or she actually states a racist viewpoint, you're assuming - don't. Read the description of the 1st video - she states that she would prefer to have what's presented during Black History Month (IE the history, and impact thereof, of black people) integrated into general American History. I think part of the problem comes from the fact that she's saying her opinion in such a way as to be misconstrued, rather than clearly and succinctly presenting it.

@NJasonUr I had made a comment on her video that led me to this and i said something about the media is the one that controlls how society works. I asked her, when you turn on the T.V, how many black shows does she watch? How many are even on tv? How many stations do black people own? Talk to hollywood caz they help shape america! People react to what they see and hear and what they think is cool. Then you move on down to politics. it just gets worse.

your point just isnt correct. noticing skin color with always happen regaurdless. as far as history goes, the reason why color is put in front of it is to make up for lost time in some ways. when you learn history in school the only time you learn anything besides white male history is during these months so yes, we should celebrate ALL OF AMERICA
