  • This isn't a bad list per se. Many of the legends are accounted for. Except, how the hell do you not have James Jamerson?!?

  • LOL comments on this type of video are so hilarious to read. Just "WHERE IS SOME GUY?!" on every comment rofl.

Anyways I don't really care what the list is as long as Les Claypool is #1. He is always #1.

  • How can you exclude Carol Kaye?

  • WTF STEVE HARRIS SHOULD BE NO1

  • @xBurnGaming John Entwistle should actually be

  • @IliketrainsX365 NOO STEEEVEEE FTW

  • James Jamerson is the daddy of all modern bass playing without him you'd be stuck on your root notes and he's not on this list, brilliant....

  • McCartney can get in the bin.

  • Where the fuck is Mark Hoppus?

  • nno victor wooten?

  • I don't agree with every position on the list (I'm gonna get hate, but there is no way Cliff Burton was a better player than Marcus Miller), but it's a solid list, and every player on there is exceptional

  • this Dave Slave Bass Player is INHUMAN!!

  • @advancedbassscouts -

Dave Slave's not in this Vid? - He's Definately the fastest Bass Player Ever!

when you search Fastest Bass player he comes up 1st which makes people think he is only fast, he has some top chops

  • I think Jaco Pastorius is the 1.

    Good video.

  • And stu Hamm Where was he??????

  • this list was full of shit where is Louis Johnson at ?And larry graham wrong number marcus miller wrong number vicktor wotten wrong number and Gitty Lee wrong number!!!!!!!

  • actually, about Flea being on the list, he was voted #2 best bassist of all time by Rolling Stone.

Don't say he shouldn't be on this list.

  • @Discodudelol Rolling Stone is a joke....but yeah I agree, that guy is phenomenal.

  • After much thought about how i was gonna rag on this guy for missing hamm n jamerson n some other folk, i've decided to say: stop ragging on this poor guy. i could make a list of the top 30 bass players in the world, then look at it and give myself shit for missing someone.

  • tony levin deserves MUCH HIGHER!!!

  • Stu Hamm not even there?

  • Flea at 4 and Stanley Clarke at 10 ??

That list is ludicrous and senseless...

  • Uuuummmm where is JUSTIN RAINES!!!

  • billy sheenan shouldn't be on the list

  • Where's FIeldy???

  • St.Harris on 18 !!!!!!!????!!!

  • Where the fucking shit face is Jim Carey?!?!!!!

  • what is the name of the song that starts at 0:41 (#27)?

  • where the fuck in MARK KING?!!!!

  • wheres jamerson???????????

  • YOU ARE FUCKING HIGH IF YOU HAVE GEDDY LEE AT 12

  • No disrespect, but can someone please explain to me why Lemmy would be on the greatest top 10, 20 or 50 of any list? Vocals, bass playing writing etc. I will admit that I haven't listened to his catalog, but I just don't get it at all. I know that he has been in the game forever and I respect that, but for the life of me as far as his bass playing goes I have never heard ANYTHING melodic come from his fingers. He plays basic rock bass lines, nothing technical whatsoever. Just my two cents

  • Sorry, but Cliff Burton was a guitarist on a bass.

  • like if you first looked at the like bar

  • this is a very respectful list. at least its not one where they put bass players who are just in popular bands that are complete shit.

  • where is Abraham Laboriel??

  • where is victor wooten??

  • @brownie7317 in 3rd place did u even see the video?

  • @TheBeaglebite AC/DC has one of the most boring, uncreative, and least skilled bassists of all time. He plays the same note or two every song, worst bassist ever

  • John Deacon above Chris Squire? You sir must not be a bassist

John Paul Jones above Geddy Lee WTF!"??

Paul McCartney in the top 10?????????

Yep you definitely don't play bass

  • @throwsand The man just said: don't mind the order. Yes Paul McCartney just deserves to be among The Best bass players ever. You must listen to the lines he came up with. Some players just make some sound, others make music instead. Enough of dirty and useless show off from those so called "musicians"

  • @papagaio1696 I agree that most of the guys here just make up sounds. Why do all these compilation consist of players doing solos? Can't they even play with their bandmates? It's the same with guitarists too. Paul Mccartney has written some beautfiful bass lines but I wouldn't put him in the same class as Jack Bruce as a bass player. Jack Bruce is a forgotten name and is perhaps the man most responsible for modern bass playing.

  • John Entwhistle. Number 1. All the way.

    But John Deacon deserves credit!

  • Les claypool is great, but number one? C'mon...

  • What about robert turjolo metallicas dude

  • Cliff Burton is number one! And where is AC/DC Bassist Cliff Williams? Where am I ?! ;o

  • No! Flea is the trumpet man from Nirvana ! :D

  • @top30music if you think that they are best, you shoud listen to wojciech pilichowski from poland.

  • Good list, my only ? would be John Deacon....

  • Ur list is all out of order n missing ppl. Fyi m. Miller should be top 12

  • wheres matt freeman?lemmy? the dude from Rings of Saturn?

  • paul mccartney better than john entwhistle lol , didnt see mark king ,there either

  • Where The Fuck is Lemmy ?

  • Jaco em 2 ?!?!?!!

  • Wher is LEMMY?????

  • matt freeman should be up there some were.

  • WHY IS JOHN ENTWHISTLE NOT NUMBER 1!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @Joeyhasleft Because Les Claypool was born.

  • i wouldve been PISSED if claypool wasnt up the...other than that thevideo sucked dick lol

  • This list must have been put together by a Gen X Loser.. John Enwistle, John Paul Jones.. etc etc... get a clue...

  • where is Duff McKagan of Guns N Roses

  • oh wait chambers is there....

  • Scott La Faro? Paul Chambers? Ronan guilfoyle? Ron Carter?

  • WTF what about Pilichowski and the Bass-King Mr. Mark King??

  • John Myung 20 and Flea 4 ?? this is a top of popularity or talent??

  • yes.... les claypool is #1

  • steve bailey higher... marcus miller higher... john myung also... Les claypool should be lower and there was no ryan martinie in list which was huge disappointment... just sayin :P

  • Comment removed

  • What about Robert Trujillo?

  • 2 words. john entwistle.

  • Flea is number 1!!

  • are you serious, this sucks, flea on 4 ?

  • Fle? are you serious?

  • @loveyourselfYEAH whats wrong with flea? his pretty much the shit.

  • i like the ending trolls that dnt watch to end dislike

  • You missed a few...

  • Paul Mccartney is the best

  • geeza butler should be number 1 no doubt about it , everybody looks up too him as an icon

  • What? Where is Louis Johnson, Scott Ambush, Abe Laboriel, Vail Johnson? Wooten is #1 by far. I would not have chosen McCartney...Really?

  • Abraham Laboriel, Mark King and Armand Sabel-Lecco(Sp?) probably should all get a spot. Certainly a lot to choose from though.

  • the bassist from YES should be on here and either tied with claypool for first or a close second

  • First: Geddy LEE is better than Cliff Burton,Paul McCartney and Claypool.

Second: WHERE IS GLENN HUGHES: FROM BLACK COUNTRY COUMMINION??!

  • Sting?

  • At 1:59 what show does that sound like...

  • Claypool ahead of Jaco AND Wooten??? CLAYPOOL??? He's great, but he's no virtuoso like them.

  • OMG HIS NAME IS MELVIN! THAT IS SO COOL!

  • this is a crap list... bassists like paul mccartney and should be somewhere at the back and pros like geddy lee, stanley clarke, billy sheehan and john entwistle and obvious legand should be right in front!

  • @roryhaha1 its all opinion buddy. that being said, where was james jamerson?

  • @explorer1243 Cliff shouldn't have been number 1. He is my all time favorite bassist, but there is no way he is number 1. 5 was about the right spot for him

  • Where's Emma Anzai??!

  • WTF no Charles Mingus?????

  • I think this list should've been done in no specific order, because you can't really rank bassists from completely different genres. Like I'm sure Flea could do stuff Cliff Burton couldn't do and vice versa, right? Oh, and also, you forgot James Jamerson!

  • miller 24...levin 22...DEACON 14...PAUL-LONES 7? ARE YOU TOTALLY MAD??

  • @grigiusII LISTEN TO DJVAS

  • @grigiusII djivas (sorry)

  • Thought Geddy should have been in the top 10. Overall good list though.

  • its the bass who cares

  • Where's Roger Glover from Deep Purple/Rainbow? Or Michael Anthony?

  • MARCUS MILLER 24?????!!!!!! GTFO!!!!!!!!!

  • CLIFF BURTON SHOULD HAVE BEEN #1 BUT NO, JUST BECAUSE HIS DEAD DOESNT MEAN HE WILL SEE THIS IN HEAVEN

  • Pretty good, I would have had Stanley Clarke much higher, and I would have had Mark King and Louis Johnson on there. But every one has a different list. :)

  • so where is Mark King on here, or is it a top US 20??

  • Even if the whole world dislikes Level42 ... but Mark King has to be in this list. Same story for all the Steve Vai haters, Bryan Beller should be in here as well

  • best countdown ive seen so far, geddy should have been closer to 1 and you missed matt freeman from rancid.

  • 1. Flea

    2. Duff McKagan

    3. Nikolai Fraiture (The Strokes)

    4. Jason Newsted

    5. Jared Followill

    6. Christ Wolstenholme

    7. Tim Commerford

    8. Mark Hoppus

    9. Mike Dirnt

    10. ME

  • lol, cliff was a good bass player, but please... if he was alive today he would not be talked so much about. I respect him and everything but there are/ were so many better bass players outthere.

  • You shmucks writing comments about so and so being better than so and so should have read that they're in no particular order.

  • a bass player countdown that billy and jaco in it but where is randy coven?

  • Where the fuck is Roger Waters?

  • WHY THE FUCK Jaco Pastorius is not the first?!

  • i said one thing!! sucker...

  • Cliff Burton is da best :/

  • What the fuck is Geezer Butler doing before The Ox?

  • Cliff Burton is best bassguitar player ever!!!

  • the best is Ciff Burton and no one else!

  • Please explain to me how Paul McCartney got in this list. How did he get ahead of Stanley Clarke, Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham......or any one on that list. Although he is a great song writer artist.

  • @Freddiejones1960 ... make a research of it... all McCartney songs... He's top 10 all time in bass playing...

  • les is easily number one

  • Bass player always gets the girl....

  • why are bass players so rare? My band is looking for one. Everyone just plays guitar

  • Where is Alphonso Johnson, Louis Johnson and James Jamerson? Marcus Miller # 24, Larry Graham not in the top 5 or even 10 and he created the slap style that everyone plays. This list can’t be creditable……lol.

  • My mind is still blown away by this list. Stanley Clarke, the man that in the early 70’s to the present, single handedly pioneered, liberated, technically and lyrically advanced the instrument as a solo instrument and became the standard is ranked at number 10. Also, created the only solo bass anthem album (School Days) that showed the range and possibility of the bass as a lead solo instrument, this list is not even creditable when you have the most important bassist at number 10.

  • lol guys at the end of the video it says don't mind the order, they should all be at #1 trolls hahahaha

  • les claypool is very very good, but compared to entwistle? He pretty muh pioneered bass playing and you have people like jaco a wooten above him. Dont get me wrong, they are all very good but larry graham and john entwistle need to be bumped up big time

  • Marcus Miller number 24? man, are you okay ? :)

  • @longosko2 Miller 24* , Deacon 14*

  • @stratojb It is so sad...

  • I'm with you almost all the way. But, Stanley Clark at #10? If there had been no Stanley Clark, there would have been no Flea, There would have been no Les Claypool. Dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants. They were or are all great musicians, but Stanley Clark was the catalyst that elevated the bass to the next highest level. He set the benchmark by which all others are measured. The musician never asks "How was that compared to Jaco?" it's "How was that next to next to Stanley?"

  • @darthclown1 Amen........! Shit, number 10 is this guy out of his mind, crazy or does he just not know a damm thing about bass, shit. Stanley Clarke at number 10........shit. "Maybe" a flip of the coin between number 1 and 2 depending on who your talking with, but shit Stanley is the damm standard for any bass player, ever. He liberated and invented solo bass.

  • steve harris number 18???

    are u FUCKING kidding me??

  • Number 5 is the best \,,/

  • THIS DAVE SLAVE DUDE ( VIDEO RESPONSE) IS TOTALLY OUT THERE!

    AND THIS VID IS AWESOME

  • No Phil Lesh?

  • Up there

  • Les claypool's first? Whoa... I mean he's amazing but I think jaco rhythmically set the standard. Good thing wootens u

  • stu hamm kicks the shit out of all these guys..really this is the failest coundown ive ever seen

  • @mp22bb Are you tone deaf or just stupid gene is a great bass player if not the best so shut up the only person better is Nikki Sixx if you dont like both of them you are retarded

  • @madstork99 I understand KISS is probably your favorite band but they are highly overrated in my opinion and yea he has a big name that people are familiar with but no where near the top of all time bass players. I mean if you honestly think Nikki Sixx and Gene Simmons are 1 2 in best bassists of all time you lose credibility already and you're just picking 2 of the biggest groups I'm guessing in your time frame and are personal favorites.

  • Cliff Burton should be bumped up at least four places.

  • Where is lemmy?????????????

  • John estwhistle or john paul jones and flea are the best

  • LEMMY!!!!!!!

  • These guys play pretty amazing stuff - but LEMMY is the Coolest Bass Player.....

  • Flea = best bass player ever

  • @iurilage1 flea definatly should have been number 1! RHCP 4 life brah

  • @FleaRHCP36 I don't play bass but I know how Flea is good.

  • You've got it so very wrong. What about Louis Johnson, Mark King and Steve Pierce? There are dozens of much better players than the one's featured

  • 1: Claywood

    2: Lee

    3: McCartney

And it would be a serious tie for 1st between all 3 of them if it were allowed.

  • paul macartney no. 1

  • where is steve swallow ?????????????????????

  • abe laboriel, anthony jackson, nathan east...wtf!

  • WTF the guitar player of dream theater plays better bass than the bass player of dream theater?

  • John myung!

  • dont agree with this video but i thought it would be funny to ratio black to white dudes. 8:22

  • Paul McCartney‼

  • Paul McCartney‼

  • steve harris and john entwislte should definatly be higher up on the list then what they are

  • u crazy, jaco not #1?

  • Also, Ellefson

  • Paul McCartney, wut?

  • @RipIPDime yes McCartney is top10 all time...

  • 1. Jaco

    2. David Aznar

  • Where is Johnny Christ?

  • Where are Nathan East, Charles Mingus, Christian Galvez? and Jaco must be No 1

  • where the fuk is STU HAMM???

  • Burton in the top 5?! u MUST be a guitarist! u got the entire freaking list wrong!!!

  • this is a slap in the face to Manring!! 27th? are you outta ur mind?!

  • 1- Chris Squire

    2- John Paul Jones

    The rest don't matter.
