In 2009 my pit bull saved my life by dragging me over a hundred meters in a thick wet forest to the side of the road after i fell from tree. If it wasn't for him i would be 6 feet under today.
this is not cruel, this dog, just like the Alaskan Malamute, were made to work - pulling things, and they are instinctual, gifted and derive natural pleasure from doing what they are bred to do - what is sad, is that people don't understand the breed enough to know about natural instincts in this or any breed!
these people commenting really make me mad, they all clearly don't know how pits are, they're so full of energy and their so strong, they ENJOY this stuff, and they enjoy excelling, and they enjoy making their human parents happy, if anything this dog is in heaven when he's doing this, not cruel or bad in any way at all.. my pit bull wishes i had the means to do this i guarantee it
@saartje05 poor dog? shut the fuck up.. my pit would LOVE to do this, he is so happy to do anything fun! clearly you don't own, and haven't been around pit bulls in your life. ignorant ppl shouldn't comment, or even watch.
@tanicich ur just being anal, according to ur view of inhumane den eating any animal/plant of anykind is humane? Thery were once living things. If urr gona get anal den fk off seriously. Having a pet in general is inhumane if U wana get anal about seriously, ur a hypocrite n close minded. U wana get anal then if U eat meat or plants and have pets then urr being inhumane. In fact if U drive a car ur polluting the air putt'n people at risk ur doing sumth'n dats considered inhumane. Don b anal.
This isn't close to fighting, but its still cruel. I don't care if its a sport. What does that mean? Hunting and fighting are sports. Being a sport doesn't justify something as humane. A pitbull wouldn't strap itself to obscene amounts of weight and pull to the point of exhaustion if you gave it a choice. Its a trained behavior. This isn't like a human competition where its the persons choice to destroy their body. This dog most likely has serious burns and scraps on its paws and upper arms.
@tanicich Sorry working breeds like the apbt have a strong urge to work. I can tell your weak minded so you wouldnt understand the sence of accomplishment these dogs get out of this. Cruelty would be letting a dog like this waste away on the couch with you. Just because you dont have the gumption to be a work horse doesnt mean these dogs dont.

being honest here, this is impressive. What is the normal retirement age of a dog the pulls such weights ? Also like most other sports dogs what are the most common injuries ?
One more point like grey hound racing and a-lot of other sports with animals there will be the great examples of animal kindness via the owner, also gravely cruel acts in the same hand. I'd like to hope this sport is more regulated than grey hound racing, if not it possible should as there is more risk to the dog.
@ConiferTreez Ty for a reply, think with the use of grey hound you mistook that I was in some way implying that I thought this sport was for money. That was not the case all I'm worried about is animal warfare. I understand that most people are defensive about this sport as many people have claimed it is cruel. On the other hand I've asked some pretty valid questions about said sport and this is my only answer. This is worrying.
@davesr25 right, we hate animal welfare people. Animals are animals, dogs are utility creatures, especially line bred game Pit Bulldogs. They would rather die than not do this. I would be more concerned about people NOT doing this with their dogs. These dogs will be just fine. It's the people that DON'T do this with their dogs that give the breed a bad name. These dogs aren't pets and are not to be treated as such :-) I will answer any questions you have, I am on expert on the sport.
@ConiferTreez Cool and Ty I'm not par-say an animal welfare person I just work with dogs in a rescue home, and I've seen my fair share of pretty shit things done to dogs, cats, reptiles & and many more. Just wanted to find out a bit more info. I do totally agree with you thought, if this dog is breed to pull it's cruel not to do so. Same goes for sled dogs and hunting dogs. To many people see all dogs as pets and forget they are working animals. When there energy is not spent behavior problems..

@ConiferTreez (Continued) start and them overly energetic dogs end up in shelters like the one I work in and get put down. It's sad to see people not utilizing there dogs to the full and it seems you guys are. So once again Thank you for the replay & take care.
No this isent cruel whats cruel is people in the suburbs with there overweight dogs that never get any exercise and get all kinds of medical problems because of it.
This just goes to show how strong hearted these dogs really are.. amazing dog.. and its not cruel its a SPORT! A LEGAL SPORT AT THAT... now dog FIGHTING is cruel.. and that is illegal. So quit bitching ur just jealous cuz ur dog wouldnt even fit in the harness...
@jord031 im sorry but you are wrong, this is not cruel, if it was in fact cruel it would be illegal to do this. also animals know when they are in danger just as humans do. if the dog felt that what it was doing is wrong and can harm him or her the dog simply wouldnt do it. im tired of seeing ppl comments saying its cruel to allow a dog to exercise. do some research.
This is what I love about the bullies...The weight thing is amazing but the heart and soul of the dog...anything to please his master...makes a true bully lover tear up.....

Sad that ADBA let that american bully compete as a pit bull

Just because a dog can do it, it doesn't mean it's good or healthy for him and the owner should know and do better for his dog!

I think its interesting how the owner gets down and coaches the dog like a human would do to someone in a competition.
