Clough worked as a messenger for ICI, Billingham when he was 15 or 16. He's from the same streets as me! It's amazing to think that a man such as Clay took an interest in one of us*
Clough got Forrest relagated. He might have won E.C back to back.SAF has a better record domesticly and in Europe. He won two cups in Europe for Aberdeen. Before he even took the Man U job.And that was more than what Clough did at Derby. So there is no contest. And he has brought through his own players like Giggs,Scholes,Beckham,Neville,Fletcher,to name a few.
@legandrydirk It took the most expensive side EVER fielded in English football history for Man United to start winning trophies under Ferguson in 1990. Yes, Fergie is a great manager, but MONEY has played a huge part in his success....Clough did what he did with Derby and Nott Forrest without the aid of rich owners and huge financial backing.
Fergie is great, no doubt....but he's never achieved the kind of grass-roots managerial achievments Clough did....Clough did it all without rich owners
@shyjames83 Clough had money he bought his team to.In fact he bought all his teams.Taylor was up in Scotland all the time.Trying to steal our players. And if you think we were letting them go for nothing, then you are much mistaken. And there is nothing wrong with having money. It does not make you a bad manger. As it still means that you need to buy the right guys to win.And at Aberdeen most of his palyers, came through his system.Like Giggs,Beckham,Scholes,Neville brothers,Fletcher,O Shea,Brown did
@legandrydirk Mate, i'm a Man City fan, so im not going to complain about having money...and i clearly said that Fergie is a GREAT Manager......but Clough never had anywhere NEAR the kind of money to spend that Fergie has had with United...as i said, it took the most expensive side EVER fielded in English football history for Fergie to start winning trophies with United in 1990.
@shyjames83 My point to you,is that he still brings players through. And there is even ones, that he brought through around left in his squad.Like the young Irish players that he has.The TV money had just started to come into the game when Clough was managing. He was the first man to buy a million pound player in Trevor Francis. Its just that these days, the moneys got out of hand. And they are paying over the top for players.Just cos they happen to be English.Instead of going abroad for Scneiders.
I don't know why you people are comparing Clough to Fergie and using their budgets of all things to do it! If Clough managed Forest right now and had the same budget as back then, he'd go nowhere. You are left behind if you don't have money nowadays. Players are costing more and more. It is not a managers fault how much he pays for a player. He has no control over that. Highest bidder gets the player. So get your asses out of your heads. Clough was great but not as great as SAF.
@flimda the European cup was much easier to win than what the champions league is today u only needed to play 9 games compared to the 13 now (plus their are much more good teams)
@stealthiscool There was no group stage...if a team lost a game then they were out of the competition. Also the teams were more evenly balanced (eg the champions of Sweden reached the final), but now only Barcelona, Real Madrid or maybe Milan can win the CL. Also only the CHAMPIONS of each country could enter the competition. Liverpool won the CL after finishing 4th in the premier league. Does finishing 4th make you a champion?
@chandlerbingbong lol calm down i only did it for a bite. Clough was one of the all time greats there is no doubt in that. He just had a loud mouth thats all.
Great manager for both clubs. Why do you think they renamed part of the A52? Shut the fuck up with your petty arguing. To us neutrals you all look fucking retarded.

@justtakeiteasy Whether you agree with Malcolm X or not, I haven't heard anyone arguing that he was dishonourable. He generated his own ideas about the world, and it seems he was prepared to amend them to keep abreast of truth. On the other hand, there seems much to condemn MLK. If you're not aware as to why, I'd recommend the following:
@Antzcceltic1 dude are u serious? At least Ali and Clough were in the same era. How can u charge Ali for not knowing who Clough is when you have no idea about the background of what you just saw. Dude did you see Clough laughing??
@Antzcceltic1 The stupidest thing I have ever read on youtube and thats saying a lot - why the hell should Muhammad Ali know who Brian Clough is? Clough is one of the greatest football managers in history but no American at the time would have known about him anymore than Henry Cooper would have known about some basketball coach
@chandlerbingbong sorry mate im not a forest fan but when you think of clough u think of forest! they were the best team in the land. Derby was just a learning curve

On Parkinshon Show which Muhammed Ali was Michael Parkinson was his only guest.Brian Clough was one of the studio audience who asked Muhammed Ali a question.
No matter how hard Leeds and Notts Forest fans try and cling on to his coat tails, Brian Clough will always remembered as Derby County to the core. That's why his son Nigel jumped at the chance to manage The Mighty Rams... it's in the blood.
@chandlerbingbong do you think mourino, fergusun, wenger, ancini, and all the rest, could ever be a clough, shankly, revie, these guys manufactured success, these pricks today, just buy it
..... but don't forget wasn't it was Cloughie who paid a record 1 million for Trevor Francis? Some might say that he too bought success, although not on the scale of todays 'top' managers...
absolute nonsense, prices were going up, Brian Clough, took a second division team in Forest, and took to the championship and european cup win, he then went and took Derby to great heights. I would love to ferguson do that, Mourino, never goes to any team, but a rich team, even I could manage chelsea, and buying one player does not make a team successful.
A think there's a pretty good argument for Wenger being a manufacturor of sucsess. Completley changed his club, utterly changed the worlds veiw of his club the traditions that the club espouses. Seriously, as a gooner I sometimes wish he would make a couple of big buys, we've got the money but I think it's hard to argue that Arsenes just another impoter of ready made talent.
@chandlerbingbong stupid dick, buying one player is not buying success, his players were second division players, that he moulded into champions, you stupid moron
@chandlerbingbong Clough took two Division 2 teams and made them into world class teams. He was on a shoestring budget. He built those teams up from nothing.
@chandlerbingbong I'm not a big fan of Fergie's personality; but there is no denying he is the best manager ever. He not only spent wisely as you noted, but he also nurtured players and is nurturing players in a way no other manager has before...
@flimda No duh Ferguson has more money than clough had. Clough was coaching when players cost 20 bucks. Over time it has risen. Dumbest thing I have ever heard.
@redredreds100 Alex ferguson is up there with the best, he doesnt really spend a ridiculous amount of money on players he buys youn players then develops them into world class footballers and also keeps a watchful eyes on the youth teams to see what young stars come throught just like, scholes , beckham and giggs
@redredreds100 i would disagree with that. You'd have to say managers like Martin O'Neill and Ian Holloway havent bought their success. Although it seems Martin O'Neill is too similar to his mentor, Brian Clough, in the fact that he just did what clough did at derby county
@redredreds100 No I don't actually, I'm at Uni and life is great :) but thanks for taking time out to ask me, I'm really appreciative of that. Hit a wrong key? So you hit a wrong key 3 times in the space of 4 words? Man shut your mouth, argument over.

@redredreds100 Fergie built up his team over a number of years. To say he just bought it is an insult to Manchester United's youth academy who raised players like Giggs, Beckham, Neville, Scholes, Butt, Fletcher, O'Shea and Brown. They bought some big players, but that was with money that they'd earnt and don't forget that he sold some big players to make way for the home grown ones.
@dougcoglan Thanks for the grown up reply. I never denied that he spent loads of money, I was pointing out that it was money they'd earnt over a long period.
@redredreds100 are you seriously saying that sir alex ferguson transformed a lackluster manchester united side into the most succcesful team in the history of english football because of money which he didn't recieve by success on the pitch? if so i think you are crazy.
@redredreds100 What are you talking about? Clough bought players in the same way, all that has changed is that the prices have rose so crazily, it is effectively the same thing but in alternate financial climates. Infact, you could argue that it was the likes of him that started it. (meaning the record fee for Francis)...
@redredreds100 Ferguson is the greatest manager of all time, get your facts right if you think you know football and what your talking about. Ferguson has done every wonder of football even when he first came in at Manchester and had nothing and a poor team.. he can create a player and teach him the skills they need in the academy and turn them into record world class footballers.
@KidDynaMyt Ever heard of Neil Webb, Mike Phelan, Paul Ince, Gary Pallister, Danny Wallace, Eric Cantona? All hugely expensive signings bought by Alex Ferguson before he won the league (6 years after he was appointed). Give AVB, Mancini and Kenny 6 years and they'll force Fergie to retire.
@chandlerbingbong i can see what you're saying but Forest fans are hardly "clinging onto his coat tails", and certainly shouldn't be grouped in the same bracket as Leeds here.
@chandlerbingbong dude leeds fans and players really didnt get on with clough and were happy he left they kicked his coat tails out instead of clinging onto them!

@chandlerbingbong sorry but as a neutral fan I'd say he is more famous for what he did at forrest rather than what he did at derby.
