  • feds forehand is different now than when it was absolutely monstrous in 2004-2005

  • fed has without question the best inside out forehand in the history of the game!

  • so um inside out inside out inside out?????

  • it's the hair

  • lol 3:03 even federer couldnt believe it lol

  • 3:00 ..

  • Best bit of commentary all video was at 2:07 (Fed Maestro vs Safin), when the commentator says, "See ya" before The Master strokes it away...

  • 0:56 Look at that footwork... Just amazing,,,

  • Tweety bird was actually a very good comparison. Federer lulls you to sleep with a monotonous rally, and then hits you with an unsuspecting angled monster forehand (wooden mallet). You don't see it coming.

  • 3:22 ... he doesn't even try and make a recovery step he knows the shot is too good

  • That wimbledon grass is so fast 0:49 compared to now

  • "tweety bird offense" xD lol what is he thinking? what about God mode offense?

  • Comment removed

  • overrated

  • 2:06 "see ya"

  • @shenglisoo lol u can even see how the linesman reacts

  • ''with federer it's like the tweety bird offense'' what the fuck. sack that commentator for comparing federer to tweety bird. federer should only be compared to god himself.

  • @jareid2507 Not bad. It's Mary Carillo, and God bless her, I consider her the least intelligent and aware out of the ESPN Tennis reporters. On the other hand, it was a viable analogy, so that the idiotic Americans that don't understand tennis, can understand just how good this guy is. I'm sure she could be very technical, but it would make for incredibly dry commentary

  • 0:48 man i felt my dick move

  • 3:00.

  • @lazios Poor Blaki got abused!!!

  • 0:48 damn!!

  • You can tell when he plays nadal.. the moaning -_-'

  • @senacoo That's because there's no such things. Slice is underspin, topspin is... topspin.

  • @Maniac742 Slice is not called underspin, it is called backspin.

  • @iderao It's almost like they're the same thing! Oh wait... they are. Derp Derp.

  • Soooo what happened to this guy now?! Where did this Roger go??

  • @senacoo ahh when i say topspin backhand slice i actually mean a topspin backhand, disguised as a slice. roger can do this so perfectly that many of his backhands are his winners as well as his forehands. we hav all heard of one handed topspin and backspins. many people come up to the net when a ball is hit to roger's backhand. his options are, down line or sharp cross court. a disguised slice crosscourt isnt used much because of its slow speed, but with rogers, that technique is his winner.

  • TO BAD ANDY RODDICK CAN

  • actually my forehand is even better

  • The another player who has amazings in out forehands is Del Potro, with that shot turn the Us Open 2009 final winning an incredible match to roger

  • nadal has much faster footwork than rogers footwork (still fast) and therefore hits better i/o forehands

  • at 3:02 federer's like "ohhh shitt did i just hit that?"

  • Hardest n my favorite too :)

  • An inside-out forehand is one of the hardest shots in tennis, I know what I'm talking about.

  • @MagicianDP Federer makes the difficult look easy. Strokes of genius. That man's a maestro.

  • Best forehand eva!(literally)

  • @mr850beast who the hell is eva?

  • @federerbestcIass who do u think?

  • @mr850beast Adan's girlfriend?

  • 3:00 Jesus..

  • I can aswell... but ball goes out :(

  • 0:48 he scared me!

  • Poor Hewitt...

  • this is beautiful

  • I love the way it looks almost like slow motion, just before Federer then just smashes it through.

  • brilliant, nadal uses this technique alot now too!

  • Comment removed

  • I love watching him play because his shots are so varied. One moment it's just a sliced forehand, very soft, returnable shot, and then when the opponent is a bit "off balanced" he goes in for the kill and hits a winner, a ball that has so much power behind it, it is impossible to return.

  • This just never gets old.

  • That really is a thing of beauty.

  • Roger is really great but why does he fear Nadal ? I don't understand

  • @MdeSouche Nadal keeps beating him on his better surfaces.

  • Could Mary Carillo make a more obscure analogy? 2:11

  • holy shit im jizzing

  • this federer would have owned nadal at this year's french open final

  • dear mother of God.,..I was completely crazy about the one at 3:26! s is just me or was he more aggressive in 2004-2005? Not that I don't like the recent him, the more complex, the better.

My absolute favourite kind of forehand, thanks so much

  • @ancasilviana His strokes were flatter and more aggressive back then. Today, he went with the rest and their topspin craze.

  • @XizelSF At a certain point, I know they started making the courts slower and the balls as well. I was so shocked that towards the end of Wimbledon the courts got so used and muddy that the game was very similar with tennis on clay. I guess some adaptation was needed seeing that organizers had god bored of the aggressive, serve-and-volley game during the 70's--> 90's and they started looking for something else.

  • Roger Federer is the BEST!!!....

  • Ok, RFed is the real deal. I've personally seen both Agassi and Sampras play matches, really up close (as in within 20-25 feet from court). Nobody beats those guys unless you have WICKED tennis game.

  • the reason why federer hardly pumps his fist or stuff is because he's achieved everything amazing so when he hits a great shot to us, for him, its nothing

  • See the footwork at 0:52 !!! Brilliant movement for a forehand winner

  • I love his Inside Out Forehand! Just brilliant!

  • Presently I don't see Roger Federer is hitting that kind of shot again..

  • @23remoh I agree and it's a real pity. Is this a sign of some tiresome feet maybe? I must admit rafa also has magnificent angles with this forehand. But fed is still my favourite of all time

  • Not a billion words could have ever discribed Roger's inside out better than this one word; PERFECT.

  • 0.10....I HAVE THAT SHIRT~!!!! ITS COMFY AS~!!!

  • The way he hits forehand is like Graf's.

  • 3:00 minutes in. Insane shot

  • wow, the shot after blake's service is HUGE!

  • federer clinic for sure

  • there was some good i/o forehands in the 2008 wimbledon final that could've been in this vid

  • 3:02, i had to rewind to see what happened lol

    too fast

  • Love the announcer at 3:02

    "Look out...AWWW come on!" :D

    Federer is freaking awesome!!

  • What grip does he use when hitting his topsin?

  • The one at 3:00 against Blake was freakin' awesome...

  • perfect forehand indeed but u also should check nadal stopin those greats forehands from roger.. and winning the point in the AO 2009 final...

  • I miss this Federer. And look how big he was, maybe he needs to get back to the gym

  • I like how at 2:10, the commentary person was like "see ya" xD

  • 3:01 didnt see shit!

  • a shot to his forehand= tennis suicide

  • dam that inside out forehand is a killer! wow!

  • 3:00

    Sick !!

  • The speed difference between Federer's forehand and everyone else's is extremely noticeable here.

  • the one vs nadal is pretty sick

  • He is really the best

  • @zampadel After Djokovic of course! haha

  • LOL. Did you hear at 2:07 the commentator was like "see ya..." before just as federer was running around the shot ROFL.

  • yeah lol

  • @HeavenInOblivion ya lol that was hilarious

  • @HeavenInOblivion also 3:01 "look out" before federer hits the ball lol

  • @HeavenInOblivion

    Same thing at 2:59...

"Look out" - DANG - "oh come ooon..." :D

  • 3:04 his face was like "omfg"

  • That's 2006 Federer's power for ya!!

  • I like how Roger places the ball in the service box. Now that great contact. I'm a deliverer of mad spin but I gotta work on this one. That angle is the Shit fo sho

  • @aarondw05 he takes the ball on rise means highest point of bounce enabling him to place on the service box line for mad angles. Its a difficult skill but nadal exploit it by hitting a higher bounce than others, thus federer will hit shorter than usual, means shorter and higher bounce on nadal's side giving him chance to attack federer.

  • i like how after he hits those shots, he walks away like a baddass!! :D

  • Wonder if Nadal is fit for fight soon?

  • I love the return @ 3:00 vs blake (how many times does it happen that the return is faster than the serve? ;) )

but in my eyes the greatest shot of all is vs nadal @ 3:20. I mean wtf, how do you do this in the corner, sliding it that much out? there was NO possibility to bring it back...wow

  • I apologize that two of the most fluid i/O forehands in the vid (the 2 against Gasquet) are kind of jerky after being converted to DV in iMovie :(

It's almost like the footwork was too fast for 30 fps :p

  • i could do that lol

  • not really, he doesn't even need to compensate with so great a backhand he has.

Sometimes I wonder why he even bothers running around but I'm glad he does, or else tennis would be missing such a beautiful shot

  • @fbinsulation he has a great bakchand but when he is on a confortable position to hit the ball, if he gots to run to hit a backhand he would never do it. thats why he is loosing now

  • @FeFabregas the reason he uses an i/o forehand is not cuz his backhand is weak but his forehand is godlike. if u have a weapon, u will use it a lot

  • @FeFabregas

    Your a total noob lol!

  • @FeFabregas

He uses is varied backhand shots to create the opportunity to hit his i/o forehand. So no, it's not as a compensation.

  • @FeFabregas these i o shots are like penaltys in a football game....nothing special..

  • @FeFabregas r u fkin serious? federer's backhand look like slices, but he invented the topspin backhand slice. UNBELIEABLE! he takes so many guys out with a topspin that looks like a backspin! so stfu and go back into your box, get ur facts rite

  • the fastest balls you can hit like federer's penetration balls is to put the ball under close-to no spin as possible. topspin slows the ball down on air , but on bounce faster, backspin puts ressure ont he underside of the ball, lifting it up making it so higher and slowing down, no spin with high strength and flexibility to the wrists will make the ball go SUPER FAST.

  • @FeFabregas

he uses his varied backhand, to create opportunities like these. There's nothing weak about his backhand.

  • 3:02 ... that is a MASSIVE return. untouchable!

  • 2004 = best forehand ever seen by man

  • 49 seconds an amazing forehand

  • Thanks for all the feedback!!

I realized now that I should have done a video just on Federer's running around his backhand forehand which includes some of his best inside-in forehands as well.

Oh well, I'll do that next time, but next up I think will be his transition game I think, (e.g. baseline to net approaches), which also displays his unparalleled footwork

  • @fbinsulation i have a question.. you'll probably think it's stupid but, what's an inside - in forehand?

  • @Danhh98 inside-out forehand. it's when smb hits a forehand with a very open angle, >90degrees. normally in that position, one would be expected to hit a cross forehand or rather a backhand. the right hand goes even more to the right during the shot, not over to the other side of the body

  • I like the shot at 2:33. That is trademark Federer. Who else can go inside out on the run and control the racket head--changing ball direction. So Precise. Beautiful thing to see.

PS I find Mary Carillo rather annoying, is it just me or what?

  • Thank you for this video of Federer's footwork and I/O forehand. Mary Carillo's terming of Federer's attack as ''Tweety-bird offense' was so appropriate and funny : ) That forehand often seems like a sledge-hammer blow that wins him the point.

  • Nice video thanks

  • 3.02 amazing

  • Would love to see highlights like these in the future but he doesnt play as flat anyomore
