I wouldn't reccomend Xandros anymore for anybody because it's old and outdated so instead I would reccomend Xubuntu, Bodhi Linux or Puppy Linux

Ok just a quick note here! This is running Xandros linux! Xandros is known in the linux community as being outdated and propietary. Other Linuxs are not like this. Ubuntu linux runs much better on a netbook with a much better interface.

Great review though! Just wanted to clerify most of the issues you are seeing are Xandros linux issues. Eg. Slow connecting to wifi. Battery etc. I have no such issues in Ubuntu linux. :)

I've got a HP laptop now, but intend to trade it in for a netbook in the future. I'm also burnt out on Windows (Vista/7) being such a freaking resource hog. So switching to a Linux variant is on the agenda as well. At this point, virtually everything I use on my laptop is cross-platform (runs on Windows, Mac and Linux): VLC, Open Office, Open Arena, vba emu, etc... So Linux variants are a safe bet for me.

Linux - stable and cant be hacked easy and runs great.... i like it more then xp, lets say its good for eee pc's -

Xp - stable with sp3 - still can be hacked , and the hole world using windows os....and can support any kind of add on like web cams and more..."drivers"

Ubuntu netbook remix simply works , so does mandriva .. well it's 100 % working but not 1000 % because 1000 % doesn't exist :P

Debian which I use works 97 % out of the box .

I am skeptical about fedora netbook project thought it would work !!

True that the OS has been trimmed but it is not the full development environment and it is not meant to be! As for downloading 'windblows' aps, stick to a windblows pc. Many linux aps are available including but not limited to Star Office. Indeed, think or educate yourself before posting.

901 is only half an inch taller when the screen is up due to some new features like quick-launch buttons and a better hinge mechanism in this model. I'm not sure of the weight difference but there is a price difference with the atom processor, I think $599.99 is what I see in most places however you MIGHT land a deal on ebay. Who knows though, thats the beauty of ebay =0 =p

i personally got the 901 because it comes with an SSD, i really didn't want a hard drive like in the 1000h, and the 1000 with the 40g ssd was too expensive

this september there will be 32gb and 64gb ssd upgrade chips for the eee 901/900

and currently you can also use other methods to upgrade the memory such as a ZIF to CF adapter

so if you don't care about hdd, i'd go with the 1000h, if you want a big ssd and don't care about money then the 1000, if you want ok price with upgrade options, 901
