I lost my vinyl of Wish Thing. I have been looking everywhere and nothing. It was one of my favorite albums of all time and I would love to get my hands on a copy of it.
W.Orbit was a member of the band back when this song was made. This song comes from the album "Wish Thing". I had the album when it came out. Dont know where it is now :(
I took me years to find this song on youtube. I couldn't remember the band name. I had (or still have) the 12" of this. I was and am still obsessed with this song! Was W.Orbit part of the group? I never knew. I can't even pinpoint exactly in my past this song was. I do remember playing the 12" TORCH SONG. HooDahThunk!
from the mid to the late eighties I dragged my friend along with me to different record bars in Manila looking for Wish Thing but to my disappointment wasn't successful in doing so. Sorry Arnold wherever you are :). Atleast I treated you to a movie and pizza! LOL.
bought this Torch Song album on a tip from the local record store -- Ode to Billy Joe is an amazing cover -- sold the record on eBay years ago for about $200.
I love Torch Song, this seemed to be another group where the musical genius(William Orbit) thought he was bigger than the band when he was nothing without it. Sort of Like Berlin.
Outstanding song from an outstanding group that never go nearly the amount of attention they deserved. Why their first couple of albums aren't on CD, I'll never know.
I thought this song was in the graveyard of the past one-hit?-wonders. Glad to have it back! I think I have the vinyl single somewhere. I remember Sting had something to do with this-a producer, perhaps.
In 1985 I was listening to alt. radio, and a song came on like nothing I'd ever heard before. I had to find out what it was. It was Torch Song. Last night I was listening to Pandora on-line radio (the eurythmics station) while I played chess, and I had to step away from the game to see what the magical piece was I was hearing. Guess what, it was Torch Song. They released an album called Toward the Unknown Region in 1996, and the music is fantastic. Well worth looking for.
Loved this video when I first saw it on MTV circa 1984; went out and bought the album. To this day, Halloween is not complete without a playing of this song.
bought this album on a tip and sold it on eBay about five years ago for %50 or so. I now realize I was into techno music back in the 80s. Can someone download the song, Ode To Billy Joe -- it was wonderful, too. I think it was the first track.
They had a number of other excellent tracks, Prepare to Energise to name but one. I have two of their albums somewhere on vinyl -fantastic stuff. LOL @ Grant Gilbert in this vid (I met him a few times).
I had this album back in 84 or 85 - bought it from Tower Records in Greenwich Village, NYC. You Tube has truly become the wikipedia of media - I have not been able to find reference to this album anywhere else.... I've never seen this video but also haven't heard this song for 15 years...Cool!
Wow! what a flash back :-). It would be really cool to see some other Torch Song stuff on here..like "Sweet Thing" or "Prepare to Energize". (Wish my X-GF did not pawn off my old Torch Song record )
I have that too. It's really belongs more in the "Strange Cargo" William Orbit set than in the Torch Song collection. If you look at the date it's more in that time area as well.
Which is cool with me, because while I do like the synth pop, I like the spooky ambient/world-dub much more. The only way I could find this disk was at a used record store -- mine's a demo copy marked not for resale that escaped from a radio booth somewhere. :-)
Wow, I agree with the other responses here. I haven't heard this fantastic song in a few years but haven't seen the video since my clubbing days in Houston TX back in the early 1980's. This song and video is a trip. I even had the vinyl. Thanks for the memories! Wish I could go back to these good old days of fantastic dance music.
I love this song to use to have the 12". I also grew up in Houston. Did you use to go to numbers or where? you have 4 years on me I was going to bj's(teen club ) way out on West Houston. in late 80's I went to Rich's allthe time and have such wonderful memories, I wish I could go back at least for one night. Anyhow just wanted to say HOWDY!
I used to have these on vinyls.William Orbit should re-issue some of his early works like these on CDs(Anything before Bassomatic and remix works for Madonna and Seal etc).Shame I couldn't find Prepare To Energize by TorchSong but still glad to see this.
Please, if you have it, post up some form of "Mothdoom Ecstasy"(not sure that is spelled correctly). I used to have it, but it came up missing years ago.
OH MY GOD!!! I have been looking for this music video for YEARS! Thank you so much. This is awesome. I got a good copy of the song from the "Wish Thing" cassette.
Please please can I get you to burn me a copy of any TS you may have. Used to have it all in High School. Went to Europe one summer in college and a broken pipe took out my entire 80's collection of vynal, mold was crazy. Please I would love to jam this stuff again. Immpossible to find stuff.

I had this on vinyl years ago, but no longer have it. Is it available on disc or download? Or fileshare. This is not the only good song on the album.

I first saw this video back in 1985 in Miami, Florida, where aI was the only or rather one of the only new wave black guys. Dammit, this song rocks!
I miss the hell out of this era, the music and videos were truly creative!
