  • Thank you! I'm new to pointe and I didn't know how to...

  • @TheGracefulBallerina Same, I found it really helpful, I have weak ankles anyway and I didn't want to injure them more :)

  • ive never actually burnt the tips of the ribbons, ive just painted them with clear nail polish, the only thing that i never leave for dance class without, excluding dance gear, coz you can use it on pretty mush anything :)

  • Im starting pointe in a couple days. This is soo helpful (:

  • Exactly what I was looking for! Ahh my ankles feel better now.

  • Does anybody know the name of the song played at the beginning? xx

  • Hi, I'm having problems with my ribbons. I seem to be tying them correctly but as I dance, the ribbons crossed over the top of my foot become baggy and the ribbon around my ankle becomes tighter and uncomfortable. Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it?

  • @lizziesheard That happens to many dancers at my studio also. Make sure you have your foot fully flexed when you tie them, because that is when your ankles are the largest. Most girls make the mistake of tying them while pointing the foot, and then when they stand on flat it becomes baggy.

  • @BalletTapJazz I've got the same problem as lizziesheard but my ballet teacher said the same as you but it doesn't help. Do you have some other tips?

  • im starting pointe in january :)

  • perfect, just what I was looking for. Thankyou very much for doing this so clearly.

  • I might be going onto pointe in the fall. I'm getting private lessons! So excited.

  • This helped a lot! Thanks! ~excited since I'm going to use pointe shoes today~

  • Now I can tie my pointe shoes!

  • bello!

  • I can't wait to go en pointe in the fall! Well, if my mom let's me :(

  • how do you untie it? do you just keep it tied and slip it on and off?

  • Just untie it.

    BTW have any tips

  • I JUST got pointe shoes(go me go me!)

thanks for telling me how to do it and dancexsingxact mine does that to

  • THANKS! (:

  • That is almost like the way I do it!!!! Great video. I use clear nail polish instead though. I love youir videos!!!

  • Thanks! I'm going to try this for the classes for this year. My ribbons always loosen after a few minutes of dancing, i hope this helps!

  • this helped a lot, thanks :)

  • wow! thank you soooooo much for this video! i've been struggling for a while, trying to not let my ribbons billow out around my ankle after dancing for a few minutes; but i tried this technique of tying the ribbons and it works perfectly!! THANK YOU!!!!

  • This way of tying my ribbons has worked better for me compared to the other way i learned. Thank you!

  • my pointe teacher suggested me to watch this video to get how to tie them and i learned like after watching it like only 3 times!!! lol :]]

  • Wow this helped me alot. Thank you!

  • this was soo helpfull thnks

  • i tie my pointe shoes this way. it works well and i find that it looks nice when en pointe. but i don't burn the ends of my ribbons to keep them from fraying. i painted the ends with one coat of clear nail polish and they don't fray (even six months later!).

  • I used to burn the ends of my ribbons..but then i decided it was much easier to use clear nail polish also!

  • This video helped me alot!!!!

  • im so glad i am not the only one to use hairspray on my pointe shoe ribbons!

  • guys, how long should the ribbon be on the shoes?

  • what level do you have to be to get pointe shoes. because i want them soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!

  • My teachers put you through 6 months of pre pointe if your 12+ but if your younger than 11, you need to go through a year to a year and a half....

at my studio..it all depends on when YOUR ready, you can have the best ballet techique but if your ankles/calves/feet airnt strong enough....then you can reallllly hurt yourself.

  • this video has helped me alot...

my ribbons would also always come undone in class..

and I don't have silk ribbons, mine are more synthetic, so they would never sit smoothly or correctly when tied....

this was very helpful to me!!

  • I use a really similar way, me and some of my friends' ribbons always untuck in class, one of our teachers reconmended a really great way to tie them heres how

start with the outside ribbon(yes i know odd)

tie around and tuck through (like video)

use inside ribbon and wrap around regulary

i like this because it is fast simple and our ribbons rarely come out now, try it it might work for you

  • hairspray???? wow.

i tie mine way differently!!! and my ribbons aren't even sewed there!!! mine is sewen where the arch is. i thiknk i'm going to stick with the way i tie it.

  • This certainly makes a beautiful and smooth line, but I can't help thinking it's a complex way to tie them when you only have thirty seconds to change shoes in backstage darkness!

And in reply to "SSOzzy," if the ribbons are quite long you are meant to cut them in half in order to have two ribbons for each shoe. There is definitely no way to tie pointe shoes with one ribbon, or someone would have found it by now!

  • just tiw the inside first, then the outside(skip the thread through part). its pretty much the same thing. Then tuck under from the bottom just like she showed. This saves some time. Also, instead of tying a knot, i dont pull the loop all the way through, that way, if i need to get out of the shoes fast, i dont have to worry about the knot, i just pull the free end and voila

  • is there a way to tie ballet shoes with only one ribbon??

i bought some shoes and they only came with one ribbon per shoe

  • you cut the 1 ribbonin half. lol, that is why it is so long

  • im so excited. i am going on pointe in like a month! yay!!!!

  • i have a question? does the shoe come with lace and ribbons on or sepreatly?

  • sepperately :) u have to sew the ribbons on and where i buy my pointe shoes the ribbons are an extra fee.

  • have you asked the dance store if they will sew the ribbons on for you? a lot of times, when you make a purchase that costs as much as a pointe shoe they will do it for free.

  • have you asked the dance store if they will sew the ribbons on for you? a lot of times, when you make a purchase that costs as much as a pointe shoe they will do it for free.

  • i tie mine differently

  • thank you very much!

  • It must be awkward for Lauren to just sit there and stare at the camera when Lisa is speaking.

  • Not awkward.. maybe annoying xD

  • i tie mine way differnt

  • We cut off the ribbons? My ballet teacher teaches us to tie a one-sided ribbon and stuff them nicely . But it hardly ever works for me. They always come out in class. And I got punished 8 sets of subresaults(how do it spell?). 8 per set, dat makes it 64. It's tiring and yet I always get it T.T

  • Not all the way. Just enough that they arent reallllllllly long

  • Tanx a lot!

  • thanks, lisa! I'm getting my pointe shoes today at 4pm soo i need to learn soon!

  • i luv these videos im getting my pointe shoes this friday im soo excited but so scared!!!

  • yes lisa howell has helped me a lot too, im just starting pointe, so these tips really help. its also good after u cut the ribbons, that u sew them under so they dont unravel :)

  • you could also burn the ends...that is alot easier

  • Lisa Howell is amazing!! She helped me so much, I strongly recommend her newsletter it is amazing!!! Thanks Lisa, another awsesome video :D

  • Thats why my ribbons are too thigt when i get up, i just needed to bend my knee 90 degrees :D

  • lisa howell is AMAZING. i just started pointe and she has helped me come a long way! thank you soooo much!!!!

  • Thanks! I've been waiting ages for this vid so its great to finally see it!

  • I wiould rather have the elastic

  • I think is a great video because the way i used to tie my ribbons it wasnt working that much. Thanks

  • I was taught this way to tie my ribbons and for me it works excellent... i personally don't have elastics but thats just my opinion. The good thing about this technique is that it makes a sort of safety knot and even if it losens whil your dancing its still securly on.

  • okay so, i have an elastic loop on the back of my pointe shoe that i put the ribbon through, but i've noticed that some girls don't do that. do you think it's necessary to wear them?

  • I have never used that or had any of my students need it so not relly sure! Definitely not necessary if the shoe is fitted well. :)

  • the woman who fitted me for my pointe shoes said it's good to do that so the back of the shoe dosent slide off

  • it helps and whe you go in the bac you just put it through i had that before, some people don't need it but some do

  • That's how I was shown at first, but the more I danced it atarted to make a bit of a bunch at the back (a few friends had the same problem but most were fine). Ah, young and foolish! She's quite right, if it's fitted well you won't need any sort of elastic. ~Kat

  • No not at all

  • @primaballerina27 my dance teacher used to do that. she said it helped her not only put her shoe on but to keep it on. if you like it and you think it helps then i would say go for it :)

  • @primaballerina27 Be careful with that. It tends to cause achilles problems in the long run.
