Arnie was Conan, physically, and having read all the Robert E. Howard books it's clear Conan was no great philospher, so Arnie filled the role for me. The genre is Sword and Sorcery, and maybe Momoa can add a little more to the sorcery element of the books, and the fight choreography, but for sheer physical presence, Arnie was the man, Looking forward to seeing the new Conan though, there were several good Tarzans, so why not?
I can hardly wait for Conan... Jason will make a wonderful Conan! He doesn't have to fill Arnold's shoes... he's got big enough ones of his own... and the acting chops to boot.... one must admit that Arnold looked good, but left something to be desired in the acting portions.... meaning.... lines to say! I have read the book, I have also seen the actual movie trailer and this actor's appearance is very consistent with how the character is described in the book. I do not think it is wise to make judgements about a movie that has not been released. I have seen this actor in a few roles and he has a great deal of potential. I saw Arnold in this movie and I do not think he is a good actor, he is just ok.
He looks like a baddy from a shitty blue movie and not the lead or hero of a movie... They should have made a conan movie that is set 20 years after the last one on which Arnold is old so he could be in it along side some decent new bodybuilder/actor starring along side him as his son and heir to his throne!... this is silly. The guy looks black or mulatto. Howard explicitly stated Conan was a northerner with black hair fair skin and grey eyes. The look just as other of Howard's characters was that of the Celtiberian or socalled black Irish. He was explicitly Caucasoid and not African; though of course from an explicitly pre-Aryan ancient fantasy world. There were black characters in his books, one was a chieftan, I cant recall that name, but anyhow, no offense to Mr Momoa, not properly cast.

Whoever cast this guy has NEVER read Howards books. Conan was MASSIVE but agile, his muscles were huge but long, denoting endurance as well as strength far above the ordinary, Arnold made a far better conan `cause he LOOKED the part, this guy just looks skinny.
@serberious Read REH's own descriptions of his creation (210lb/6ft 2). NO WAY can any steroid/HGH pumped gym-built brick authentically depict a body built by hard life and war. PLUS Momoa moves like REH's Conan. I loved the Arnold movies btw
@6y298 When Howard spoke of Conan, in " Wolves beyond the Border ", I think it was that story but I may be wrong, he said that at 15yrs old, Conan was 180lbs and 6ft tall, some people don`t stop growing until they`re 19 or so, so 6.2 and 210 would be way off. You must remember the Arnold lost weight for the part as people who weren`t familiar with him or Bodybuilders size, would`nt have believed that he was that big. Momoa`s body wasn`t built by a hard life or War so he`s not right either...

@blizhniyboy95 Arnold Schwarzenegger might be bulkier but he is actually only around 5'10 while Jason Momoa is 6'4, that 6" height difference may make him look skinny but Momoa is a pretty big guy and it wouldn't take alot for him to put on the extra weight. As far as Arnolds giant muscles, his arms were so big he could barely move compared to how quick and agile Momoa is not to mention his acting is much better.
Arnold is 6'2", where are you getting your stats from? Look at any clip of pumping iron and how he stacks against 6'5" Loui Ferrigno. As far as his mobility he seemed fine in all his sword and magic genre movies, remember he was actually not bad proportioned for his height as bodybuilding goes, 6'2" about 240 for his first conan movie and about 225-230 for his second one, don't know about Red Sonja. In a movie like this Conan should convey super strength, Arnold did, Momoa is taller but does not

this is silly. The guy looks black or mulatto. Howard explicitly stated Conan was a northerner with black hair fair skin and grey eyes. The look just as other of Howard's characters was that of the Celtiberian or socalled black Irish. He was explicitly Caucasoid and not African; though of course from an explicitly pre-Aryan ancient fantasy world. There were black characters in his books, one was a chieftan, I cant recall that name, but anyhow, no offense to Mr Momoa, not properly cast.

@6y298 When Howard spoke of Conan, in " Wolves beyond the Border ", I think it was that story but I may be wrong, he said that at 15yrs old, Conan was 180lbs and 6ft tall, some people don`t stop growing until they`re 19 or so, so 6.2 and 210 would be way off. You must remember the Arnold lost weight for the part as people who weren`t familiar with him or Bodybuilders size, would`nt have believed that he was that big. Momoa`s body wasn`t built by a hard life or War so he`s not right either...

@blizhniyboy95 Arnold Schwarzenegger might be bulkier but he is actually only around 5'10 while Jason Momoa is 6'4, that 6" height difference may make him look skinny but Momoa is a pretty big guy and it wouldn't take alot for him to put on the extra weight. As far as Arnolds giant muscles, his arms were so big he could barely move compared to how quick and agile Momoa is not to mention his acting is much better.

Arnold is 6'2", where are you getting your stats from? Look at any clip of pumping iron and how he stacks against 6'5" Loui Ferrigno. As far as his mobility he seemed fine in all his sword and magic genre movies, remember he was actually not bad proportioned for his height as bodybuilding goes, 6'2" about 240 for his first conan movie and about 225-230 for his second one, don't know about Red Sonja. In a movie like this Conan should convey super strength, Arnold did, Momoa is taller but does not

@Altryas HAve you seen the Promo stills? he didnt put on any extra muscle , so he still looks skinny as always, also to note , he acts ok on Game Of Thrones , only because he has very minimal lines , and his character speaks in a foreign tongue /pray that the action sequences make up for it , also the comic had the first images of conan produced , and Arnold was right about on the mark , jason falls short appearance wise , plus that stupid scar he got from a bar fight on his eyebrow is bad :(

travis, NO, Conan was NOT a "samarian", he was a CIMMARIAN, a fictional country located according to Howard's own maps in roughly what is nortwestern Europe today (and before you come back with the Samarians of ancient Palestine or Cimmarians of the Caucasus..GO READ THE BOOKS!) Actually, given the region, Conan should look like a Viking... sort of like Hulk Hogan. (Conan the Norwegian?)
