Use Sony Vegas to compress, it's really practical. Do piracy as well. Save as WMV and you can get up to 1080p videos, and they're not big files. Under 100Mb, awesome quality.

Search Isohunt for Sony Vegas 8. Don't download 9 because 9 can't pitch shift and the most downloaded release is a shitty rip, most of it is missing and broken.

Taksi works aswell, just realised it actually records audio.

@defiantBlaze Thanks for the help, i tried Sony Vegas 8 with no greater success ( i know i suck). But how ever i found another compressor that works really good. it turned 500MB+(avi) to a 6MB(rmvb) It's called

Easy RealMedia Tools, it's really easy to use and works great, strongly recommend if someone needs a compressor/converter

My recordings end up with a black screen for some reason but managed to get the audio codecs listed. You can download it from Realtek.com (HD Audio Codecs) which contains the ac-3 audio filter or download K-Lite Codecs which also contains the ac-3 audio codecs for multimedia

this is probably the best FREE screen capture program but ofc fraps is better and you can get it for free by typing in 'download fraps' or something like that on youtube and and set the search settings so that you get the latest videos

This good if you're making videos with music in it, but FRAPS is better if you want to capture the game sounds in the video. I don't even have a microphone, and FRAPS still captures the audio, which is great. But, if you're playing a Source engine game, or a Goldsrc engine game, then use the in game recorder.

You can get fraps anywhere, tho fraps still changes your own framerate to whichever framerate you've selected in your capturing options.

The reason I'm looking for another program is that fraps uses 1.25 GB a minute at 30 FPS. A framerate which for me is way to low to play at. I dont remember the file-size at 60 fps, but it's insane.

If I wanna record a 10 minute COD 4 match I'd end up with a 20-30 GB video file... :/

there is a good reason for that though, its pretty much uncompressed which means its extremely good quality, and doesn't make your games lag as much as it would if it actually compressed it on the fly.

one thing that will make a big difference to your file sizes though is resolution, record at half size and turn down the resolution to the lowest you can bear and the videos will be a fair bit smaller

There is a downloadable version with sound. But crap, this doesn't work with the game I'm trying to record! It has an anti-hacking program that attaches itself to everything running in the background. Worse, pressing Alt+tab will close the game to prevent loading other programs in-game for hacking.

You have divx set to play videos on a second layer which makes playback faster. So when you are rendering the video, you are rendering it on a different layer than your desktop. There's no way to change this (that I know of) other than to set up your video to play on the same layer as your desktop but if you'll probably get a lot of image tearing if you try that.
