Have you looked at 2012 prices of their bikes? Some models are almost 20 percent higher than last years. Last year I could get the top aluminum flash 29er for 2,000 at my local bike shop. They want 2300 for this years model now. On top of that they put cheaper bottom of the barrel sram cranks on it over the FSA afterburner ones that were on it last year. I heard reports that those cranks were causing problems but you put a new set of equal value on not lower end.
Just bought a 2011 flash 29er. I held out and held out and it finally went on sale in November. Flash 2. $1340 out the door. 25lbs. Made in Taiwan. The Fork is still USA.
My recent purchase was Cannondale RZ 120, it has Hand Made in the USA all over the back of the frame. This was one of the reasons I got it over a better equipped Merida made in Taiwan...and I am an Israeli!
My next bike will probably not be another Made in Taiwan Cannondale, i think it will lose it charm. I'll get a bike that still made where it was designed.
Dorel's revenue for 2010 was $2.484 BILLION!! And they want to outsource all manufacturing, wipe out some 200+ jobs, and jolt a small town to save $4 mil? Then pay sweatshop employees $2 an hour to make bikes they will sell for $1000. It's all corporate greed! And just watch, Dorel own Schwinn, GT, Mongoose, and Roadmaster, all of which you can buy at Walmart, don't be surprised if in time you see Cannondale there too. And the quality will be long gone!
As far has I know, the bikes are still develop in the USA. They`re made in Taiwan and them shipped to the USA for final assembly. I`m thinking about buying a 2011 Trail 6. What do you guys think about it? Too bad it costs R$ 1790.00 (brazilian money) :(.
@Marsteintoppen Can you post a youtube video of it. If not can you atleast tell me the exact date it was built. It should be listed on the warranty card that came with the bike. I have a 2006 F800 with over 19,000 miles on the frame and it was built on February 13, 2006. I bought it on November 18, 2006 and it was the best decision I ever made in buying a bike.
@traingp7 The warranty card has the date: 05/26/10. Maybe I will post a video of it, good idea, maybe as a tribute to this handmade wonder from Bedford, USA. The bikeframe and the lefty look so solid, much more hardcore than my friends carbon bikes from other brands. I could have waited one month to get the 2011model, but no way I wanted a Cannondale made in Taiwan. I still have my old Cannondale, a M800 from 1995, a real quality bike!!
USA, China or Taiwan whats the different. All are still humans and not made by animals. Important is the skills of the bike maker. Your grandma can even do a perfect bike if she's train and acquired a great bike manufacturing process.
What a shame. I just ordered a leftover 2009 Comfort 4. I hope it's USA made.
It was my third and the last Cannondale I will ever own. They had my loyalty because they were American made. I stopped wearing Levi's years ago and now go with whatever is cheapest. I will do the same now with my bikes.
ive had cannondales for 18 years ive got 2 cannondale beast of the easts and im proud to own an american HANDMADE bike sadly its true at the end of 2010 cannondale is going to taiwan thanks to dorrel industries so hang on to your AMERICAN MADE CANNONDALE , my thanks go to all cannondale employees past and present . another great brand fucked up by dorrel industies a canadian company, wankers
USA is the worst country to live in....You walk in the street and you are afraid that somebody is behind you and is going to steal you....!that country shocks....
I own a 2006 cannondale F800 loaded with all the good stuff Shimano XTR cranks, SRAM X.0 shifters and derailleurs and a rear chris king hub. I bought it on November 18, 2006 and have put over 15000 miles on the frame. My previous bike a MARIN made in Taiwan developed a crack around the bottom bracket after 9000 miles and had to be replaced and the second one developed a crack around the bottom bracket after only 5200 miles. MADE IN THE USA CANNONDALE still going strong with NO CRACKS.
what a turnoff! I'm in the market of buying a cannondale mountain bike! Currently I own a diamondback response 1999, and rode it less than 100 mi. and the frame cracked at the front. It's under warranty. After reading comments I have second thoughts now! Is Giant a good mt bike?
what happen cannondale bike factory in U.S.A? Can I explain cannondale bike cactory, please? I have 2003 Cannondale F 1000 SL beacuse my bike mad in U.S.A.
Not anymore now made in Taiwan like most of all the other bikes and stuff no more pride now a bike like the rest what sticker will the bikes have now instead of that Hanmade in usa !!!!Machine made in Taiwan!!!
WTF. after 2010 all frames will be made overseas. and not necessarily designed there either. But really, how long will Bethel last, after Bedford gets the shaft?
to synapsecarbon3. i also have a black/white synapse carbon 3 and i love it too. however you are sadly wrong from 2010 on they will be made 100% in asia. honestly the outsourcing doesnt upset me that much. its the fact that they will soon be sharing parts and design with mongoose schwinn and gt. they are no longer anindependant company. they will be made and designed by a new unified conglomerate encompassing schwinn gt and mongoose. cannondale is being turned into a wallmart bike
@dahgutone But are you going to pay the same premium prices for Cannondale's knowing that the company produced them for 1/4th the cost using slave labor but yet want to charge the consumer the same price?
you people need to do more research more. cannondale was purchased by dorel industries. the same people who make gt, schwinn and mongoose. they will be built manufactured AND assembled 100% in china and taiwan is sweat shops and will be designed by the same people who make the crappy wall-mart bikes. if you dont believe me go to dorels website. they will also "utilize innovative cost cutting techniques developed by dorels exising brands (ie the wall-mart brands) dont buy a cannondale
i have bad news for you guys, by 2010 EVERY SINGLE cannondale will be completely designed, built and assembled in taiwon. as for design and engineering will be conducted by a new unified conglomerate which will be staffed by schwinn gt and mongoose designers. all 300 of the people you see in this video are now unemployed. every single one of them. from 2010 and on all cannondales will be designed by schwin/mongoose people and made in taiwon in the same swaetshops where mongoose are made
Sounds like a winner. Can't chase technology, there's always something better next year just like computers. I'm more buy it now, upgrade it later then repeat. :) Hard to beat the 2009 set. I'll buy something else in a year or two anyhow.
god, i had a 2002 cannondale f 800 with lefty fork in matt black ,absolutely awesome bike.i rode more miles on that than all the other bikes i ever owned.but like an idiot i sold it to buy a guitar amp a few years later.i so regret selling it:( what a bike!!!one day i will get another one when funds allow!!!

Well, China or and Asian based country isn't all that bad.
