I remember watching North and South when it came on the first time in the mid 80s. This scene took my breath away. These two played their parts with such expertise that you knew the characters they portrayed were in love and not in lust. I loved Patrick Swayze for his roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost but I ADORED him for his 80s films like The Outsiders, Red Dawn and North And South. Patrick was smokin hot and so damn sexy as Orie Maine. He had amazing chemistry with Leslie Downe as Madelyn. My heart ached for them in each episode as they were tortured by their forbidden love and Madelyn's ugly/horrible husband who locked her up and drugged her. (He was so mean!) I am so sad Patrick died so young :(

I sooo agree too! I love it all! I was shocked when I did some research on the characters and discovered that the actors who played George and Constance Hazard met on the set of N&S and were married in real life in 1988. They are still married to this day :)

Yes, but that was in the novel. If I remember correctly from a documentary on my N&S dvd set, they said that they chose to go with him having a leg injury instead for the miniseries because the audience would've been distracted wondering how/where they hid his arm when it was filmed. :-)
