  • The BEST part about all these Republicans scrambling to broadcast their Old Rich Protestant White Guy philosophies on social networks is that we can IMMEDIATELY poke fun at them instead of waiting for Jon Stewart to do it.

  • You are a jerk who only knows how to say NO! There was no cooperation from Republicans in this latest Congress, on ANYTHING. What a joke to expect anything to change.

  • You republicans are 10 years too late. We can see you for what you are. And I ain't telling you nothing.

  • Please... laws are being passed by the Congress, that is its job. Do you know what I remember the republicans the most for? "this is a LOT of pages to read, sigh!" Shut up and start working, if laws are going to be passed anyway, at least do your best to improve them as much as you can. People made themselves clear, we want reforms! Your party has given NO votes to any reform so far, how do you think that is going to work in 2010? You are going to be FIRED! Work more, whine less.

  • was that not 1.1 trillion over 10 years?

people always say it like its going to be gone all at once.

  • The GOP is stuck in Nancy Reagan's favorite program - "Just Say No!" They have noting to offer America but the childish temper tantrum and the whine Noooooooo, Don't Wanna!

  • America and Texas needs more people like Jon Cornyn

  • We need more people like cornyn in prison.

  • I am outraged that congress was expected to read over 1000 pages of legislation and sign it in under 24 hours. We really need to completely stop having legislation that heavy, break it up into smaller parts or whatever. Upsetting our people by demonstrating a total lack of respect is not the way to go.

  • I find it funny how people word their questions..

"What do you think was missing?"

implying that we needed to add something. how about removing all of it? Maybe just keeping permanent tax cuts in their for individuals no matter what income tax bracket?

  • I missed your original question, but I really don't understand why there isn't a bigger push for more nuclear power. It's clean and extremely effective, yet we're pushing for wind power? One of the most unreliable and useless forms out power there is?

  • "One of the most unreliable and useless forms out power there is"

Thats extremely untrue. I have wind plant near by its cheap to run and produce good amount of power.

"but I really don't understand why there isn't a bigger push for more nuclear power"

That is true nuclear power is very good and clean for the most part but its better if they build them in the middle of the dessert and have high yield power lines. in the stimulus they are putting down these lines. nuclear power is comeing back

  • The American People should take your refusal to criticize ANY aspect of the package as an admission on your part that it's a good plan and that Rush Limbaugh may have his hopes for failure dashed in the years ahead.

  • With all due respect, Senator, the building is on fire and we don't have time to sit and get unanimous agreement on every plan before we turn on the hoses.

This is not one crisis. President Bush and the Republican House and Senate have left America with a list of crises as long as my arm and it may not even be possible to address all of them AT ALL, much less in a leisurely way.

  • Sunshine is the best sanitizer. Spread the truth. What worries me are the Republicans that piled on their own pork projects into this bill. I expect it from Democrats.

  • Senator Cornyn, thank you for doing such a great job! I am one of your constituents and I will keep voting for you! What is your opinion of Hutchison running for Governor coming up soon? I would love to have your input on that!

Also, we need to find a strong Republican to run for Congress in the 20th district; as you know we currently have C. Gonzales. Any recommendations? Again, great job!

  • He is not going to answer you lol. Its like the fake god you warship. You never get answer back. You know the he is not doing a great job he is trying to stop the government from running. The last thing we need is a government that is failing to act in such important time. I mean its like cutting funding to the damn troops. have a good one. Think who u r supporting for.

  • I appreciate your hard work in standing up to liberalism! Thanks for standing up to the liberal agenda of well meaning but misinformed congressional leaders.

  • Well dont thank him. you poeple have failed. the last 8 years were a disaster. You republicans have no right to speak out during this recession. Your idea didn't work when you had the government and they won't work now. Don't try to act like a rebel. The republicans hand control of these government for years . Proof that we voted in all democratic government just shows that no one trust your party.

  • Typical American voter, no intellectual or historical depth of thinking. This financial crisis came about because the democrats wanted to look good to poor people and put people into houses they couldn't afford. I will say it does go beyond a dem or rep reason. The real reason is the Fed Reserve.

  • 8? They controlled legislation from 1994 to 2006.

  • and had veto power until 2009

  • they basically told Bill Clinton what to do and had power from 1994-2006. You can't do anything if you don't make the laws though.

  • Well bush had presidential powers to make some laws. Like limit money for stem cell research and veto any heath care bills. You know nationalized insurance will simulate the economy just as good as any stimulus bill since the big company's don't have to pay for medical care. During the bill Clinton days it was in the middle politics. which was good for the economy for the most part. Now its ehier right or left no middle fascist or communist. remember fascism is not the way.

  • Fascism and Communism are both big government. Anyway, funding stem cells and any research is a waste of money, government can't do research well. Also more government is never stimulative...

  • "government is never stimulative... "

Thats the kind of think that got us in the mess in the first damn place!!!!!!!!People who been preaching that have also ran this economy to the ground. I really pissed off you buy into that crap when our trustful republican friends were doing such a great job last 8 years. I mean if your ideas didn't work before how do you expect them to work now. What do you mean goverment bad at research. The atomic bomb and space travel came from the government!

  • George Bush increased, not decreased the size of government. The recent collapse was the fed and the community reinvestment act.

  • lol you are already blaming the reinvestment act? Its only been law for one damn week you cant blaming somthing that is that new. Money has not even been used yet. You cant expect the economy magical improve the same day dont be a child.

  • it was in 1994 or 1993. Actually started by Carter but enforced under Clinton

Let me ask you. Should the government pay anyone who didn't pay their mortages?

  • lol as i recalled clinton was not president when the ecomoney crashed. As i recall PRESIDENT BUSH WAS PRESIDENT AND HE COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT IT. STOP POINTING THAT FINGER AT CLINTON I LL BREAK THAT FINGER! CLINTON WAS POWERLESS TO STOP THIS RECESSION BECAUSE HE WAS NOT PRESIDENT.

  • It was another bubble. The tech bubble popped on Bush. The idea that you can blame a hands off policy, even though George Bush increased regulation unfortunately, with a collapse is ridiculous. Freedom of enterprise creates wealth and government can not decide if an asset is overvalued better than the free market.

  • Free market does good things but its not always right. It is free market that is destroying our heath care. It puts a high value of medical care and makes it hard to afford. 47 million American now dont have heath care. I dont see the free market taking care of them. Bush did deregulate a lot. They gave the bail out money to companys with out conditions. Believing in the free market is like believing in a fake god. Free market to you is like a god you can never question it.

  • The free market is the only thing that has ever created wealth. History has shown that. our abominable existance has only changed once the state said hands off.

  • That's not true mix ecomneys do better. Our ecomoney is modified version of captilism. Which is working pretty since we are the strongest nation on the entire eath. Most nation that are purly a free market end up in a mixed ecomney because the abuses in pure market system such as child labor. Sick dieing. Under paying jobs. MOst countrys that dont change end up being communist.

  • Communism is always reached through coercion, not having too open an economy.

  • an open economy is not the same if the gap between the rich and poor begins to widen. When the rich controll all of the money then we don't have a free market anymore.

  • Should the government pay anyone who didn't pay their mortages

The answer is yes if the companys rushed the deal. Why should common man pay the prise for dishonest corporations. Most of these companys knew that these loans where bad. Charging more for risky loans puts fuel on the fire. I mean its such a fucking double standard its ok to bail out big companys because they can't do wrong while the common man is being bent over by these companies. The common citizen should get the bailout

  • The common man is the tax payer paying for irresponsible people who didn't pay their mortgage. That also means companies who gave money to bad people get money from the deal.

I don't think the companies should be bailed out either but if you do bail them out don't put conditions where they can only hire bad execs to run their companies.

  • "The common man is the tax payer paying for irresponsible people who didn't pay their mortgage"

I find it disgusting that you are trying to blame the poor. When the rich had controll of the money and they lost it by there own irresponsibility. Most of these banks encourage clients to take out these really bad loans and really just lied saying that they could pay it off. when really they are robing the poor by making them pay the interest only.

  • They don't need a home, it is not a birthright. People can rent. And to tell those that are responsible that they are fools for having paid their mortgage is a slap in the face.

  • Its double standard its ok to bail out big companys and ignore what they did wrong but when its the poor being bailed its communism and evil. While the true evil is bailing out already rich people and then letting the poor go homeless. Most land lords check credit scores. Anyone who should to apartment it should be those CEO that you love so much.

  • The idea that the tax payer will pay for people who are irresponsible is always bad, i don't think they should bail out the rich either.

  • Well if you don't bail out the rich people as well then there will be no one to hire people. If you dont have a job you can't get food or medical care. People will die of cancer on the streets. We will look like india. I mean what are these workers suppose to do with out money. You don't believe in a government saftey net. Our country will look like a 3rd world nation.

  • Wealth and jobs don't stem from a safety net, just the reverse.

And all the safety nets in the world won't turn a third world nation into a prosperous one.

  • I am taling about the people you would put out of work if we dont bail out these companys. How do you expect them to buy food and medical care? They are not going to be happy living on the streets. Since they have a vote they are going ot vote for someone that cares about job creation.

  • that means any single company that fails deserves money to prevent unemployment.

  • Yes mass unemployment. Not all the time only during times there the riple effect will cause other company's to go banrupt. Like right now.

  • When there is 6 percent unemployment, 7, 8? You are propping up failed companies, they don't work!

  • It would be 15 percent if we didnt bail out these companys so it does work.

When they lose there job how do you expect them to live.

  • Is 6 percent of the nations people employed at these companies? You can't know that the difference would be that even if so

  • The ripple affect would be deadly.

  • we need to readjust. We cant just prop up failed companies.

  • WE get just let companys fail and cause mass depression.

  • The government doesn't have the money to bail out all these businesses. How can the economy evolve when failed businesses and practices are kept alive. What about the people who save their money, when the government prints new money the old money loses value. We may not have the money to continue the current trend of bailouts.

  • I will make you a deal. We will let these company's fail and let people get unemployed only if you allow government safety nets to allow to pay for food, water, medical care, and some sort of shelter then i allow the market to do what it wants. But i will not have people beg in the street. When the economy comes back we will ween these people off the government payroll.

  • agreed :D

  • Deal has been made. Good. We can pull it into law. I will call it the "Citizen Temporary Support and Free market fix" Let me remind you this bill will cost a lot of money too. Ony if i were president.

  • haha. i am glad we could reach a concensus.

  • Yea me too. I hope we don't have live too long on food stamps.

  • Just a few years living off of government :D hehe I hope.

  • I also put in earmark to force everyone to call each other comrade. Ok comrade aweiss until the private sector repairs itself. ok comrade.

  • I know thate that big brother will look out for me, I love his guidance, comrade private

  • Comrade I also made an other earmark GM Must produce 10,000 military tanks and other vehicles to fund for our friendship war. ( its fun to say comrade)

  • We will enhance the Bill of Rights Comrade. it is currently things the state can't do to you. We all know big brother is glorious and the new Bill of Love will be things the government will do for you. Provide you with a job working for big brother, protect you from what is bad and steer your life. Comrade, the revolution will be complete!

  • Comrade I agree. We must make the bill of rights better. We must also share the wisdom of army comrade and force everyone in it. To prevent citizens from committing crime against our most kind government we must do away with trails comrade and throw them in help camps to work the crime out of them. Comrade we must make sure the to free Canada and Mexico from there oppressive republics.

  • Senator Cornyn, I would thank you to stand up for me, your constituent, every now and again instead of continuing to espouse the failed policies of the last administration. I do thank you for your hard work, but I wish you represented all of the people of Texas instead of the Republican majority. I would love to see you work your hardest to make this stimulus a success despite the fact that you disagree with it on principal. Real leaders lead, even when not the national majority.
