Everyone knows that the v6 mustang is no good when it comes to power, so its no real celebration to beat the v6 mustang. I thought there were trying to go against the v8 in which they clearly lost. As far as the genesis sedan goes, yes they did well to market against the more expensive E class bc you would save thousands of dollars. However, my thing is that I don't give them credit for making their cars look like other cars. The front of the GEN sedan is a ripoff of a Mercedes. Good for the $.

@armory305 I have to agree with you for the most part, but as far as car designing (exterior mostly) goes, I think we've come to the end of the road; there are just too many cars with too similar looks and characteristics that it is almost pointless to blame a car for having another car's design. well of course, BMW vs Hyundai design bmw clearly wins, but i think it's mostly because of quality bmw is much better than that of hyundai..for now anyways. as far as genesis though, i agree iwth u

I wouldn't necessarily call either one of those premium brands, but they are above average in reputation except for the Hyundai. Now the car itself is alright and it is a good bang for the buck, but I don't think they are really anywhere near ready to outdue Ford or Nissan. Plus, putting a whole bus length in the quarter mile on another car proves that. if they compared it to like the civic si or some lower power car I think they would market better, but by going against 2 better cars isn't.

1. they completely destroyed the mustang v6 with the Gencoupe 2.0L turbo. so yeah i think they beat that car which they were competing with.

2. the Gencoupe is competing with the G37 just like the Genesis Sedan competes with the Mercedes E class, neither cars are as good as what they are competing with but the market strategy is to show how good their cars are, they aren't very far behind the two they are competing with, which is impressive in a cheaper car.

@njones1091 very true. but I think hyundai has a long way to go until they can compete with mercedes and bmw's shoulder to shoulder, just because they started off much much later than them german companies. hyundai still needs to work on their V-6's, 2.0 turbos, and their new v-8s. but with time, they'll be as competitive as lexus and infinities, if not bmws or mercedes.

Ford and Nissan are Hyundai's rivals, so it just makes sense to make a car to target the Ford Mustang and the Nissan 370Z to pull buyers in and gain respect at the sametime. I'm not trying to say this car is the shit but for dollar to dollar this car is a winner. This car is only 0.07 seconds slower through the quarter mile then the 370Z. This car runs 14 flat and the 370Z runs 13.3 seconds. Honda already has sports car so there really no need, Honda is going to bring back the NSX though.

I wouldnt under estimate Hyundai with some of the improvements they have made in past few years. I bought my 2003 Elantra as a daily driver, but soon found it does really well in autocross, even better then the famous "Honda Civic". When ever I need a new car I probably will look into a Hyundai again!

Plus hyundai's 4 cylinder world engine is used in evo's and in chrysler and dodge cars. they are the same engine just built up slightly different and tuned specific for how the companys want it. plus honda and a few other cars use some hyundai engine parts. bet you didnt know that. go look it up. the engine got major praise and you can see what it does in an evo with turbo and look at a dodge calibers hp and specs

Actually they did. it's mitsu and hyundai and chrysler. they have a joint venture and mitsu and chrysler paid a lot in royalties for the engine and mainly mitsu and hyundai produce it. so hyundai's engine is just scalled down evo engine cuz they didn't wanna take away from the V-6 and wanted to be more in the class of g37 and stuff
