i agree that beast is sometimes overrated, but it's a fact that the album as a whole is remarkable. zero filler, and songs like hallowed or prisoner... but i think that powerslave is just a bit behind it. it's so much better live.

The best Maiden album is considered Number of the Beast but start with Powerslave the reason why is because of the jaw dropping riffs, leaded harmonies, great lyrics and consitent track list, it does not have The trooper or Number of the best in it but that album is worth every penny its worth, I hope I helped your decision easier.

Download Hallowed be thy name and ignore The Number of The Beast. That album is so goddamn overrated.

Oh and their debut and Killers is great too, but I wouldn't start with those.

Yes "The Number of the Beast" album can tend to be overrated...But that doesnt stray away from the fact that their is still amazing songs on it such as yes "Hallowed Be Thy Name" but also "The Prisoner", "22 Acacia Ave" and not to mention "Total Eclipse" which is not on the original prints of "TNOTB" but as a BSide to one of its singles but was printed on the album in the remasters if i am correct....Many many great tunes still on it...Even if one does think that its too Overrated

Start with either Iron Maiden or No Prayer For the Dying. Those two have only good(are there bad Iron Maiden songs anyway?) songs and you're going to get hooked.

bruce's voice is really not that good in this vid. His voice changed a lot in 1 year. He sounded amazing in 1982.

its cause of the smoke machines (tourin constantly and making a good show with smoke and other visual tricks cost him the health of his voice)- they dry ur throat big time and u have a hard time with ur vocal chords. his voice didnt change cause he used it wrong or cause it wasnt good enough, if u listen to him today in shows and videos u ll see he is more confident with high notes and stuff and theres no smoke machines on stage. it wasnt his fault

pity bruce didn't have the same control over his voice then as he has now. he has significantly improved, you can hear it with their reunion stuff live. the british flags here have apperently gotten an upgrade too. maiden has had a big upgrade after the reunion. lot's of things improved perhaps their setlists gotten less, but the rest is just plain awesome.

each riff of this song is not that complex on its own, but iron maiden has a way of mixing totally different riffs into the same song and making it sound really good i.e. aces high, powerslave, phantom of the opera, fear of the dark
