If you were to compare the two on an equal benchmark, ie both boosted or both NA then you will always find there is no replacement for displacement. Its been proven by top fuel.

They reason why the 4 cylinder motors are able to keep up or beat muscle is because theyre so light. a 230 hp honda civic that weighs under 2400 lbs can keep up with big block 429 mustangs and even the hemi challenger. i've seen it done. i've race and experienced it.

Well I was about 22 at the time, all the mechanics I did my self with the help of no one and very little budget, it toque me a cople of years to do 12.1@112 but it was worth it in my book I was proud. I had a Boss 427 in my tow truck strong motor.

Any car can smoke any car if you do enough work to it, I'd rather have a car that has two more cylinders, a larger displacement, a more capable engine that produces more natural torque won't nuke if too much is done to it, and looks and sounds awesome, turns everyone's heads, and has history to it.

@77ROLLS77 Sure you can make an import extremely powerful, but they will never outlast a larger engine with the same power numbers. You will constantly be replacing pistons, warped valves, spark plugs, heads, and possibly the block itself. Turbochargers will need to be cleaned and lubricated a lot, and the blowoff valve will be taking a lot of abuse. So in the end, muscle=win. You also get more natural torque out a larger engine too.
@tyIerz06 not neccessaraly , for example a mate of mine had a 800bhp supra , he had it fully built , T51R turbo the lot , spent a lot of money on it , he was using it as a daily driver , 22- 24 mpgs never had a problem with anything and he still has it after5 yrs! , now if you had a v8 running the same bhp figures you would have to highly tune it as your big block chevy just wont run 800 bake standard and have gd mpg and it would only be used on weekends, import=big power + practicality = win
