hi seemanta, i'm looking for a good high speed laptop............so should i go for the studio xps 13 having the core 2 duo 2.53ghz or the studio 14 laptop having the core i7 1.6ghz
Hey. I got a Studio XPS 13 about two months ago. My biggest issue with this laptop is that even with the power it's got, it still gets stuck sometimes. Also, my laptop comes with two graphics cards: one discreet (G210M), one in-built (9400MG). whenever I use both together for a game, the computer gets stuck. The heat isn't that much... it's definitely manageable.
In terms of raw processor performance, the Studio 14 should any day beat my XPS. Even though the Studio 14 you are looking at has an i7@1.6GHz and the XPS has 2.53 Ghz, I'm pretty sure the i7 has 6 cores while the XPS just has 2 cores. Also, the i7 has turbo boost and hyper threading. Take my word, i7 is WAY faster and it's the latest technology. Core2Duo is comparatively older.
*Check other issues (heat, design, price, usage criteria, etc.) before finally selecting.
thanks dear,After a long research I fond studio14 is best suited(economical ) laptop for me but It will take a long time in delivery , Today I saw ur review coz Dell has offered me to go for studio 15 coz they said it will take some more time in delivery but still I stick with my decision with studio 14,
Hi Seemanta, I'm planning to buy a Dell laptop & that's why doing a lot of search on internet & came across this very good review of yours. I saw in Inspiron lapto that there are no optical indictors (small indicators for WiFi, CapsLock, Bluetooth, Processor busy status indicators) in new 14'' & 15'' models. What about the Studio versions. I saw ur video you mentioned there is Wi-Fi indicator, but what about other indicators?
hey.....thnx for ur valuble video.....before watching this i was really messed up in selecting either studio 14 or inspiron....also i have some doubts to get cleared....did u get any carrying case with it and does the fingerprint scanner work efficiently,i think this model has some projection at the back to keep some distance from the floor so that it doesnt get heated up quickly...but u r mentioning to keep a notebook under it....and finally what about the battery backup...
hey nice vid, finally found someone with a studio 14 review! just a question, do all the studio 14 come with the slot load? and is the fingerprint reader sensitive?
hey man , nice video.I am also planning to buy the same laptop , the studio 14 , but with the graphics card upgrade .But i just read in the comments column on the dell website , where some people have reported that this laptop heats up very quickly .Can you tell me if you have faced any such problem as well ?
Heating seems to be an issue but not something that can't be taken care of. You might buy a laptop cooler or use a book to provide some tilt so that the cooling fans can blow the air without obstruction.
I wrote a linux shell script to monitor the temperature and found that even with long term use, my HDD temperature stays consistently at 45-46 deg celsius.
Hi There, Nice Video.. I'm considering Both The Studio XPS 13 and the Studio 14 laptops.. Extremely confused.. Does the XPS have the WiFi network sensing feature as well.. Are there any issues about the XPS that i need to be aware of.. Thanks..
Hey,nice video you have posted-really helpful. I too ordered for a studio 14 laptop with ATI radeon graphics card. But can you post another video with some closeup shots. Anyways, keep up the good work. Also I am a little relieved to see that somebody has bought studio 14 because I cannot find any product reviews on Dell site. I began to get a feeling that it is not manufacturable.

Pros of Studio XPS 13:
1) Powerful except when it gets stuck.
2) Two graphics cards 9400MG 256MB and G210M 512MB
3) Looks amazing. very unique.
4) Good screen.
Cons:
1) Gets stuck sometimes (although rarely)
2) Everytime I use both graphuics cards together, it always gets stuck. Have to talk to Dell about it.
3) It gets dirty easily since it has a glossy finish.
4) Heat, although a minor issue. Speakers aren't that good.

can u tell me what is the location of fan in this laptop....is it sideward or below..??
justfardeen 2 years ago
Fan is located below the laptop. Use a book or something to get an elevation so that the air circulates freely below the laptop. That's what I do.
seemantadutta 2 years ago
Hmm, actually it is more like 50% bottom, and 50% side. It starts from the bottom and curves up on the side a bit.

This is NOT a Dell Studio 14z laptop since 14z's don't have an inbuilt DVD drive. Looks like an old 15" Studio to me....

this is Studio 14, in US dell site only studio 14z (no dvd drive) is available..
Got confused in the beginning ..
