  • Hard to tell whos arguing for what sometimes (allthough the guy is obviously arguing against religion whilst the woman is arguing for it overall)

  • This is awesome just how my kids are going to c me and my significant other constantly having intellectual debates. If my parent where like this id be way smarter.

  • Wow FVR, you are very lucky to have such thoughtful parents. Haha, I'm basically the polar opposite of my parents, but everytime I express my views, I'm accused of being a smart-aleck.

  • (smart-aleck) take it as a complement.

  • I used to piss my grandma off when I was back home, she was a devout muslim lol I used to piss her off with my twisted atheistic questions lol I loved her, but sometimes I just couldn't help challenging her old religious views, it was so much fun, not to say she was always pretty disappointed at me becuz of my views lol

  • I miss home...

  • How did these 2 people get married? I can't imagine being married to someone who completly think differenly from me. It seems like there would be a lot of arguments.

  • There's quite a difference between petty arguments and intelligent debates.

These are really impressive parents you got there, OP :)

  • 3:15...you commentary made alot of sence mam. im a bad speller

  • well this is a man :)

  • Eastern religion is about making swarm productive

  • These discussions between your parents have been interesting. Thanks for posting.

  • I think your dad's wrong about most Muslim women being unhappy, actually. If you're brought up thinking it's your place in life to serve a man, then you're fine with it and happy. (Doesn't make it right, of course, but just saying.)

  • With today's technology these women are more and more exposed to the west, seeing the freedoms and equality that women get outside of their community. Eventually they will become jealous and the way from that to unhappiness is a fairly short one.

  • Can you post more stuff with you and your parents talking. I really honestly appreciate the view points. I don't get to hear this a lot and I think it's good to hear them.

  • they actually exercise both hemispheres of their brains lol. this is also associative on some levels, communication.

  • Factsvs.Religion, the argument from your mom is using is not really a rational argument. There is no difference in what she is saying and the old mantra, used by drug addicts, which states that "IF IT FEELS GOOD, WHY NOT DO IT". What one wishes to be true, or what is most comforting, is not what IS TRUE.

  • I find one of the points of view of your father quite a bit pessimistic, what about the fact that people want other people to be happy, because it can benefit them... Perhaps simply because it lacks sort of the "poetry" of altruism.

But, strangely enough, to a certain extent, that may be true. I remember an old professor of mine explaining the concept of Altruism, that is one gives away in the hope that, if something happens to them, someone would lend them a hand as they did, setting an example.

  • so we have a child that loves her father

very much and she see him aloan so in her mind

she trys to make him happy Why!

what else dose he have she serports him to make him strong and not to feel aloan

if the father did not have this

he would feel emty inside ,aloan

and that would be to hard for her to bear

    in her mind

  • hmmm she talk in the video becouse she is afard of her father deep sadness of being aloan and in her mind she see her father as a strong person with no weekness but she fouling her self into beleave this

so she jump out to Defend him

so he is not realy week unless he is aloan

and she know this so she speach out to defend him

and in a sence bring him back to his feet

    or realty

  • Is your mother ill?

I ask not because of her arguments, but because it looks like there were efforts made to keep her off camera.

  • Well I thought that this would be a good thing to put on youtube and I knew my dad wouldn't mind but I wasn't 100% if my mom would be all that keen about. so that's why I kept her out of the shot. But it turns out I neednt have bothered because she ended up being fine about it.

  • I just watched a few of these video debates between your parrents. I really enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing. they are a perfect example of how this conversation can be held with civility.

  • Thanks for posting these, I found them really interesting. It's great that your family can have such open conversations about this, and while I don't agree with your mothers perspective, she's clearly far more thoughtful about the issue than most christians I've spoken to.

  • i'm glad you found it interesting. I was hoping it would be interesting. it's not very often people get to see what a another family's debating is like.

  • why are you badgering the old lady.

    leave her alone. basterds

jk, isnt it better just to agree to disagree?

  • that's my mother you stupid fuckwit. and they like arguing about religion. they do it all the time. there not fighting. they always seem to be in a better mood after a debate.

  • yea that occured to me after i posted. sorry

at first i thought you were harrassing some old lady on her death bed (i CANT see your mom on the vid), trying to convince her there is no god "so abandon all hope" lol.

is your house divided up into christian and athiest only zones? nuetral area is the kitchen, check points are in the hall. no crusifix's in athiest zones.

lmao, yer mom thinks heaven is a GREAT wack of heroin.

never been a big fan of psychiatric drugs, its bullshit.

  • haha you don't know what your missing

  • he's letting your mum get away with lots of spurouse asertions. why cant he evaluate her experience there is ample evidence that there are many people who are unable to excersise any objectivity in the assessement of their own experience. it is by no means beyond debate. love your video's me and your dad could hang out.

  • ooglebydoogleby, I run in to this with friends and family. Notice how the 'believer' says nothing she feels can be scrutinized or understood, but the atheist's subjective can.

This is how compartmentalization works. The subjective makes up so much of their 'knowledge' that they see the subjective of others as part of their own subjective, and therefore the reality of other's subjective can be moved around wherever they want for emotional satisfaction.

It doesn't work, hence the contradiction.

  • in all honesty ime not entirly able to follow your line of reasoning however i think i know what your getting at. it is symptomatic of those who argue from authority that they very rarely have any. only a empty claim.

  • oh, I miscommunicated somewhere.

It is a method of retelling reality to fit ones desires. On of the more common assertions from the faithful is that they know your thoughts and you can never know theirs.

It's been along time for me but I remember doing it. I remember being trained to do it. After all everyone but me and the other faithful were 'deceived by reality'...

  • The irony is of course, religion is the greatest drug of all.

  • Yeah the whole time she was on that "crystal meth" point, I couldn't stop thinking about FVR's "GOD DRUG" video.

  • I think that they are both very intelligent people. I thought that your mother was a bit off, but it ends up that her views aren't too different than mine. I mean, she believes and I don't, but that doesn't make her wrong. Damn, impressive people. You are a lucky duck. You've got at least three logically honest people in your household. Only reason that I'd side with your dad is because your mom's trying to argue against logic with logic.

  • "trying to argue against logic with logic." That is an INCREDIBLY good point! I hadn't thought of it like that.

  • Yeah, it's something that I have pondered many a lonely moment over. I mean, I'd like to argue that logic is not necessarily a perfect entity, but such a point would invalidate my argument, so it can only be an internal argument.

  • I believe that we are taught about god(s) in the first 7 years of life is a crucial predictor of whether one will consider reason or faith as the guiding principle.

While the head is soft, so to speak =)

  • Very patient man. Proof that no belief in god does not mean we are selfish.

  • How true!
