Don't know. But if you watch his recent speech in Iowa he did the exact same thing with his fingers right before he referred to how good looking his wife and kids were. It's a gesture he does and it's most likely unconscious. But no one seemed to call him on it then because...well he wouldn't flip off his own family. But doing the gesture while mentioning Hillary makes everyone draw conclusions.

Why not show the front view at 20 minutes in where you see him use his index finger and the middle finger pops up the 21 minutes in when he say's "Hillary is in here element"? Why not have the sound play so you can hear the crowd go hysterical as they watched him do it?

In the most important political race of his life with multiple cameras going he would flip off Hillary? Also the crowd was not reacting to his fingers action. They were making noise because he mentioned her name for the first time in the speech. Only watching the clip with anticipation makes one think the two are connected. And too only a very select few could see it from the 'offending' angle. It's been good comedy, though.

Actually after he mentioned her name there was about a 2 second pause where no sound came from the crowd, put the sound in as many on youtube do and you can see the pause clear as day. Then he did the finger and the crowd when nuts. And yes, he knew if he could talk if off and not make it so obvious that if could not be mistaken, yes I believe he did. I've watched him his scratch his face a hundred times. Mention Hillary after looking bad in a debate and bingo.

I agree with rashomon's reply to this and I have something to add. Think carefully about when you scratch yourself; on the arm, on the cheek, on the leg. You can't think carefully because its just something we do. We don't think about it. So why on Earth would Obama be concentrating in the middle of a huge speech on which "habitual finger" he used a minute ago when he first scratched his cheek. I grew up in the professional world as Obama has shortly after he finished High School. Now Obama has done many speeches before and I disagree with you he has done this before. Also the timeing he did it was when he said "Hillary is in her element". Now in the professional world, and around other people, you learn to not pick your nose, sneeze into a handky and look at it, you never scratch with your middle finger, fart or burp. If you watch the whole speech you will see [and hear] the audience react because it is the first time he has mentioned her name. They are booing her. Plus, consider the fact that people were seated 360 and only a small % saw the speech from the front left angle where his gesture would appear to be what it isn't. Dissing her, yes. Flipping, no.
