He wrestled Lou Thesz on a number of occasions. Not once did he manage to beat Thesz, I believe, but most, if not, all of their matches have ended in draws. Both were technical, scientific wrestlers.
It is interesting to note that many old-timers, including Dan Hodge, have lived to ripe old ages. Fred Blassie, Lou Thesz, Gene Kiniski, Killer Kowalski,........ just to name a few. In contrast, a lot of today's wrestlers have died young, with many of them not reaching the age of 45..
@Tarshconsulting Do you only care that kids from educated professional families are getting got by there own stupidity? Bored rich kids got nothing to do with there time? I say- let them get got. hey, it proves that they are not that educated and chances are- there parents are herbs who don't know whats going on. Keep the footage, Danny Hodge is a living legend who is demonstrating a real hold when done properly. WHEN DONE PROPERLY!! Not his fault some jabronees screw around in shop class.
Children known to us (very young teenagers from educated, professional families) have found this footage on YouTube and have started to try it out on each other. In the space of a few days there have been very serious incidents, one leading to hospitalisation. It is simply a lucky chance that a death did not occur. Please remove it.
LOL 1:21 that pat on the back is like saying "Don't worry kid, I'm only 80."
I'm not talking shit about the guy he choked out by any means because I've heard insane stories about Hodge. Props to that guy for having the courage to do that and Hodge is like one of those guys...Stu Hart...Harley Race...Jake Lalanne type guys...guys who even in old age you wouldn't fuck with and just being their presence makes you think damn...what was this guy like in his prime?
Jim Ross swears he is the toughest man that ever lived. After hearing the story about him and his car ending up in a ravine and how he got out, I may have to agree with Jr.
@KingFireball7 it looks a little different from other sleepers I have seen. Usually the elbow is placed under the chin. Still, Danny's worked just fine lol
@bcmguy if he never trained mma,it wouldnt matter in the least how good a wrestler he was .There have been better wrestlers than him in mma, like monday, kevin jackson, mark shultz and he wasnt that great a boxer, only a career of 9 months at pro level. You dont have to be world class in any 1 discipline, its how you put it all together, look at gsp.
@eslubin he had nothing like the record at world level as any of those guys and at a time when the level was worse overall, its the same in all athletics.
or for about 8 seconds until you go out. Dan Hodge is also the greatest ambassador the sport of amateur wrestling has ever had, donating a lot of his time to coaching kids and promoting amateur wrestling worldwide.
Yea guys believe me dan hodge is the real deal! I've had the privilege of meeting the man a few times Not only was he undefeated at OU as an amateur, he was NEVER taken from a standing position He could crush apples and break pliers with one hand That sleeper is also textbook- there is no pressure on the trachea at all A sleeper's effect comes from shutting down the cartoid artery in the neck closing off the blood and oxygen supply to the brain. you can breathe the entire time
You are incorrect. Once the choke is released the blood flows back into the brain and there would be no damage. Waking the person up has nothing to do with it. Now if you apply the choke too long then you can do permanent damage.
Now your just being silly. Think about it...what mechanism would be in place to do brain damage once the restriction to the blood flow is removed? Being conscious or unconscious has nothing to do with it.
@cuzz63 it is possible to kill someone if they have a predisposing condition thats undiagnosed so I wouldnt be doing this on people ,danny took an unecessary risk here and would be destroyed in court if the mans family sued had any damage occurred.
@canucktheclown thats completely untrue and illogical.Once the pressure is released the blood flows again to the brain and he wakes up himself.I was a premad student once.Youd have to keep choking for minutes to kill him if he didnt have a hidden problem.

he cleary doesnt know what the hell he is doing and could injure the guy with that. Many of these so called old time shooters didnt know a damn thing.
Look closer at the hold Jon, there was no trachea pressure what so ever. He's got the man's neck crimped in the hold to ensure the pinching of the arteries which my simulate the trachea being squeezed. If the trachea was squeezed it was because the fat guy panicked on the way down. However if there was trachea pressure he wouldn't have been breathing/snoring.
Dan Hodge, who was a better amateur wrestler than a professional wrestler. I am pretty sure he knows what he is doing.
Probably best that he did not do a test of hand strength with Hodge. Back in the day he would drop people to their knees just from the strength in his handshake. My guess is Hodge could still do it today.
@eslubin maybe this dude should top tryin to kill people by preforming moves incorrectly. He is obviously legendary for something but it aint good wresling!
@FlWrestler362 Hate to tell you that you are fucking stupid because you probably can't read anyway. Hodge is considered one of the greatest american AMATEUR wrestlers of all time.
@FlWrestler362 Hate to tell you that you are fucking stupid because you probably can't read anyway. Hodge is considered one of the greatest american AMATEUR wrestlers of all time. Go back to chasing your sister maybe someday you will catch her so you can lose your virginity, Waldo.
@talonfan69 Oh yea Im sure he's the greatest at hurting people. This video should be removed for the dangerous act that it is. Oh and by the way, totally mature of you...can't win an argument on fact so you just insult.
@FlWrestler362 I imagine you don't pay much attention to the thousands of Judo and, BJJ videos that are up on youtube. They show no only how to do a myriad of chokes, or really strangles, but arm bars, heel hooks, etc. Also, this hold is often done in the UFC.

Actually, if you don't awaken the person in a timely fashion the person can get brain damage.

Nope, you can still do damage if you don't wake the person in time. Maybe not all the time, but there is that risk.
