  • Very nice guys, verrrrry nice….

  • @nailosity But just to be fair. That was some brilliant detective work for the guys who were able to figure out that you are not John McGlaughlin, and they should be commended for what must have been a very difficult case for them...Poor things...They very likely had adult supervision, because they could have easily hurt themselves..You know what I mean? lololololololollololol

  • @nailosity You are very welcome sir. But the thanks wasn't necessary. I think all I did was speak the truth. There are countless bands out there still playing stairway to heaven and here you are playing Lila's Dance of all things. You know as well as I that there are twice as many bands ready to jump in case one of those bands gets sick just so they can play the zeppelin tune..yawnnnn. Lets see one if any of them try to do that with you..BIG FAIL is a guarantee.lol

  • thank you guys, very good work, i know every note of every mahavishnu title. that is why my name is emeraldomusik.

  • @nailosity Bravo!! Very well done sir. Pay no mind to the jackasses who would rather discuss how you are not the original band,,duhh..But how many bands are there that can actually do any number by Mahavishnu Orchestra? That alone sets you apart from most others. Whats interesting to me is the drummer is most definately a Bruford man, and so we get to hear how they might have sounded with Bruford on the pads. You don't see that every day either. I love this.

  • @lorioftheforest Thanks for the kind words, really appreciated!

  • Neil, the keyboardist is one of the absolute best players out there. I'm giving him kudos here because he's a real modest man himself and I doubt he would say it on his own :).....(and a hell of a nice guy too). My understanding of this band is that he is the main one holding it together lately since the personnel are changing and rotating lately, but he is the constant. The man is consummate. Keep it up bro.

  • I saw these guys live at the Iriduim playing the music of Jeff Beck. They're fucking awesome!!!

  • The synth solo is fantastic!! Love the Ponty-esque tone!

  • I love how none of the violinists can pull off the begining solo, so the keyboardist has to lol

  • Wow! Incredible. One of my favorite pieces brought to "live."

  • The problem most guitar players have playing MO music is that they don't have the same background as John. john's influences are blues, jazz, funk, classical and classical Indian. today's players seem to put too much progressive rock or metal rock into this stuff and it throws the music off.

  • For what it's worth, claucoaster probably hasn't seen the original Mahavishnu (1st or 2nd version), so he really can't comment on comparing the two to the Mahavishnu project. I think i am a little more qualifies

  • Come on, these guys are just decent players trying to play mahavishnu tunes, but they aren't as good as the original. Nice attempt...

  • Wait, on second thought. it sounds JUST LIKE THE ALBUM. OH MY GOD. THEY ARE JUST AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL. Yeah, maybe if I took some drumg

  • Oh,

  • The drummer isn't playing the parts right, the tone of the drums is off and I have a lot more experience understanding what has to played to make it sound like the original version. I personally wouldn't do a less than 100% accurate rendition of these songs, but I would rather take the music and creast

  • Excuse the last post. I have no problem with the string players, they are playing the written

  • They have a couple of the players from the original band, but they are still a cover or what some might call a Tribute band. I have no problems with the stin

  • Glaucoaster. Mahavishnu project is not another carnation of the original band. they are a cover band version. yeah

  • Muy bello " Musica sin maquillaje, una las Almas de los Musicos

Felicitaciones ¡¡¡. Very beautiful "Music without makeup, a Souls of Musicians

    Congratulations.

  • Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Greg just has to get his set and playing up to snuff. He hasn't fully got the Billy/Narada vibe down. I wouldn't bring a DW kit to the gig. That's like a keyboard player playing Fender Rhodes parts on a DX7. LOL

  • I hear ya. I wouldn't...but it's not my band. I'm just happy to have a gig playing music I love. :)

  • Cover bands shouldn't put out self produced albums. they should just simply promote themselves as a tribute band and leave it as that. I seem to remember someone mentioning that the band was better than the original on the band's web site and Greg was kinda promoting the band as the 5th incarnation. I just think it is a little self indulgent to put out CDs as a cover band.

  • Yeah, it was decent. Not my cup of tea for straight ahead jazz. What I prefer to do with standards is to play the song with a different rhythm and different feel to it and make a more original version. I never really got into the casual gig mentality.

  • There is a one man band version of this song posted by oscarbat that kicks ass..... for what he is doing, it sounds better than most cover bands. LOL.... check it out.

  • @Oneness100 Will do, I love that stuff. :)

  • @Oneness100 : Today we run this Music, when all the other pseudo-music is to become a mere amusement simple, easy, regular as a jingle. leaves of education and commitment shown by these musicians and that is of real value.

  • Neil, I wish I had a recording of a group of players when we did an ultra fast samba version of Third Stone from The Sun. we kind of meshed Mahavishnu kind of mentality with Latin. It worked well, we just didn't have it recorded, plus I actually severed the bass drum beater shaft during the song, so we had to stop. ;-)

  • Neil, I saw the video of BreadMan, it reminds me of Zawinul, without the other instruments. just a suggestion, you don't always have to thrown the kitchen sink with solos, sometimes leaving holes can be more meaningful. The other songs I've heard are more progressive rock, prog rock was never that interesting to me, too disjointed.

  • @Oneness100 Have you seen the "Alice in Wonderland" vid? Straight up acoustic jazz.

  • I just reminded myself of that movie Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg. have you seen it? it's worth watching...

  • I know, it's a lot of fun being able to tackle, how it is being promoted. I wouldn't put out self produced CD to try to make believe that it is an actual version of John's group. it is a cover band, as good or bad as it is, it is still a cover band.

  • @Oneness100 well of course it's just a cover band. What else could it possibly be? FYI, I was in another cover band, "The Machine" (Pink Floyd), for 10 years. To quote Bugs Bunny, "it's a living". :)

  • @Oneness100 : Error Appraisal Record, if you are a musician., should know that the Covers, are only commercial songs., This is Music "and quite difficult to execute" your comment is ridiculous and low. I reiterate my congratulations to these true musicians. I also like Pink Floyd

  • I hear what you're all sayin'...

There's a lot of opinions floating around about how this stuff should be done. Thing is, we're just happy to have a chance to play these tunes, and as far as I can tell no one else is doing it like this. It's just, you know, FUN. :)

  • I don't what Bendian is doing with flipping the groove around. It's aggravating at times, plus his tuning is kind of strange.

  • The guitar solo is too rock for me.

  • Personally, your solo was decent, but it kind of fell apart during the second half. I think the drummer is not really listening to the soloists. Why isn't the gutter player playing the solo? The string section is great, no problem there. I think the drummer is playing to straight, not swinging it enough. Plus his set sounds awful, IMO. Could be the mix on Youtube.

  • Neil, have you played in a blues, funk, African, etc.? I see a lot of guys come out of Berkeley, or MIT without a clue. What's your background in blues, funk, etc.? That stuff gives different chops that Berkeley may not provide. I used to play a lot of fusion stuff very close to the album in my late teens, but that was for fun and to learn, I didn't

  • @Oneness100 I've played everything - really, everything. Fusion - this kind of fusion, MO, Weather Report - is still my fav, but I have really diverse tastes. And I'm self taught. No Berkeley for me. :)

  • Nai

  • Interestig to mix Dance of Maya within Lila's Dance. I think the drummer, guitar player and keyboard player need more time to develope their skills. Too much "rock" in it. Mahavishnu music is something you either feel or don't. I can't for the life of me figure out what the guitar player is doing without a Les Paul or Doubleneck, strats don't offer the right tone. The drummer needs to get a Gretsch or Fibes kit, better cymbal setup and really learn to feel this music. There are moments.

  • @Oneness100 Really? Wow. Well, I'm the keyboard player. I've been playing music (and this music) for 30+ years. It's part of my DNA. I can "feel" it better then 98% of the motherfuckers I know, and over a 30+ year professional career that's a lotta peeps. And this ain't about "recreating" the music, either. It's about keeping it alive, fresh.

Have a look at my other vids; I'm doing mostly original music.

    Seriously tho, do you play?

  • @nailosity Sorry to slam you guys, but the core group, keys, drums, and guitar isn't up to my taste. aside from the drummer, the band Birds of Flame does better renditions from my limited listening. I know it is hard when all I have is You Tube videos. I am actually a drummer that has seen MO, and all of the other bands since mid 73. I've seen Jan with Beck numerous times, with his own band in small clubs and Jan is just Jan. It all about tone, feel and approach to comping and soling.

  • If you can play this stuff, first play it to the point where one cannot tell the difference. that means IDENTICAL. Then go from there. If I were to do MO music, I would do a COMPLETELY different ORIGINAL rendition much in the way Radio String Quartet does a string quartet rendition. It's hard to play as good as the original. I give you guys props for having balls to do it the first place, I do find it entertaining, but don't get all defensive about it. I'll check out your original stuff.

  • @nsgobbi I think those were the sound guys, chatting in the booth where the camera was...

  • Highly impressive, folks! Well done indeed.

  • when are you guys coming to new york again?

  • Saw these guys, with a slightly different and smaller lineup, at Orion Studios in Baltimore and have to say it was an excellent show. They opened with Extrapolation, one of favorites. Looking forward to their return!

  • Yes sir - we are back with a vengance. :) NYC on Nov. 3rd, at DROM. Check the website for details...!

  • great version!!

  • These guys deeply stirred my soul in Stroudsburg, Pa on July 31, 2009. I was skeptical going in (a Mahavishnu Orchestra cover band??!!!) and I'm still floored. My children and I were front and center (missed my Jami Kali) and there was nowhere to hide from the truth. Absolutely awesome.

  • You're very kind. Thanks for watching, listening, being a part of what is for us a little bit of magic...

  • Thank you for this, Neil. Can't wait 'till the next time we venture together into the land of "Fusionocity":- )

So glad to have been there for both shows. Totally blown away!

  • Neil, this was awesome bro!!!!!....I used to go to bed every night listening to this album...many years ago...When you started your solo I thought L Shankar with his violin was hiding somewhere...lol..Great solos by all...Great ! burnin !
