Great video bro. I see you comment that you are not using the amp models but have you ever tried the amp models directly into the clean sound on your vox and how did they sound? I am thinking of getting an axe fx and want to run it into a clean amp and want to know how the amp models sound.
How do you do that? Is there a place on the fractal audio website to download? I have yet to buy the unit. Great job. You've acquired the Edge's sound on the money for sure. Love it!
how does it compare with eventide time factor, line 6 dl4, tc elctronics nova? can you send me you entire detailed set up PLEASE? Great job! Thank you for your efforts!
Great modulation in the preset mixed with delay. So are you running any compression before your ac-30? What dual delay setting are you mixing in parallel? What speed and depth modulation are you mixing? Could you send me your preset from the axe-fx ultra? It would not be shared?
Hey , great U2 sounds you are getting there ... How do like the Axe connected straight into the amp ? I'm seriously considering the Axe Fx but not having effect loops on any of my amps is holding me back ... plus i'm too happy with my basic amp tone to wanna ditch them for modeling ... maybe when the backache creeps in , i reconsider lol
@funkyMonk1985 i do exactly that I like my amp tone as well and my amp has no effect loop so i run the axe for its effects only....no amp models..works great
@mick3b1g hi does the the axe fx do a good ac30 though? i'm in the UK where there are very few of these around and at the moment I'm using loads of rack gear like eventide eclipes rgm switchers overdrive pedals midi preamps ..... but after seeing this bit of gear I'm seriously considering ditching it all for the axe fx ultra.

Hi, great sound, congrats. I´m thinking on getting a new fx processor and I´ll consider the Axe Fx after watching your video. What do you think about eventide´s eclipse unit? do you think it´s good to get those U2 sounds? or the Axe Fx is a better option? thanks in advance.
@u2be27 Ive owned the Eclipes..great unit but in my opinion no comparrison to the Axe The Axe fx is the Eclipes times 100 with so much more to offer. The eclipes sounds amazing but to my ears theres nothing in it that the axe cant reproduce plus the Eclipes can only do 2 blocks at once and there is latency changing presets
@phydeaux Supposedly they sound identical, 20% faster processing, 380 presets on the ultra versus 250 on the standard, and a few more additional effects on the ultra for $500 more than standard. 6 times the memory on the ultra, maybe it's for presets and user presets? check the website.
You'd be better off just asking mick3b1g..but considering that his Vox is either an new CC2 not the stock model which will run you around $1800...or an orignal which can run upwards of $6000 depending...and that AXE FX runs aout $2000 and the F1 midi floor board is (guess) $500 or so....with the other toys hes probably got about $10,000-$15,000 worth of equip....sounds amazing though mick, by far, is in my opinion one of the best "Edge's" out here...check out my cover of "streets" :P
I have an Axe FX Ultra - I have never had a digital modeler I liked before this one - blows all the rest out of the water.
It is good for U2 and other effected sounds, it'll be just the effects in front of an amp or model the entire chain direct.
This is by far the best modeler out there, light years ahead of the rest. Don't knock it unless you've tried it. I've got a lot of great amps, but this thing does so much so well it's my go to for most things.
hi mick may j ask u....during streets did u use two different delay? usually when j play streets my setting for one delay is 357ms....if u use two delay ,what's their time setting!thanks ciao cheers from italy!
anyone has an opinion on the AC30ccx with Celestino Alnico Blue speakers? Is it better at replicating The Edge's sound than the AC30 does, or is it worse, or pretty much the same?
It's better, much better. I don't think it's really a difference worth the amount of money that celestions cost, but it is a pretty significant (and positive) difference.
Thanks for the info! Do you know if The Edge himself had those Celestions in the AC30s he used? Though I understand that the Alnico Blues have a much better sound than the stock speakers, I had the impression that Vox only offered this recently as an option . . . in the sense that the older AC30 models didn't have Alnico Blues in them nor did they offer them as an option. I always used dynacomp/delay/FET boost or the like last just before amp. Try it in different orders and see what you like best..That worked the best for me

Well I guess I deserved the -4 .
Once you know the amp sound is the AC30, and the effects are fractal's it makes sense...
The main thing that shines in your demos is your superbe playing...
Since your in a Vox AC30, plug in it any cheap modulation delay and you'll get that sound.. after all Edge even used to have a old korg digital, he even used the line6 rack version of the dl4 too so please dont come and make us think we have to spend 2grands on a Fractal to get that sound, Come on be honest.
What do you think he plugged those units into ????
All in all not eve including the studio gear he was using well alone more that 2,000 bucks worth of gear....Why don't you post a video of your awesome low budget tone then...and can you diagram this rig? " Any cheap modulation" suggests you don't know your pedals...
Some reissue memory man has a short delay time because it uses a pair of MN3008 memory chips. MOST other reissue MM's use a pair of MN3005 chips or a quartet of MN3008 for longer delay. Best to try before you buy!
anyway there's no way the cold converters of fractal are gonna get this organic analog warmth.. but the DL4 gets it better than fractal.. only my opinion.. ;-)
Hey kids, you dont need a expensive processor for that sound.. a cheap second hand memoryman and vox emulator wether vox boss pod will do that trick.. honestly ;-)
there are alot of cheaper options for sure but the mem man wont get you all i want or bad unless you want to play it super fast as it cant exceed 400ms. a great alternative is the M13 or if we are talking delays a simple Boss dd20 will work
Im not wrong but you dont have to believe me..Ask anyone to make a clip of a mem man doing 550ms or make one yourself and post.. 550ms with modulation from a mem man isnt gonna happen. Manuals lie Ive owned 6 mem mans and none will do it..They are all different but none go 550 even if the manual says they do..Not trying to cut you down Im just giving facts
Yes you do kids...... cause that is how that sound was created.... go and see what the Edge uses in his rig... Vox ,Pod and Boss make great emulators but they dont even come close to the AXE... how do I know? I have all four units.
Edge doesnt have an Axe ;-)) this fractal audio is just an emulator too! a cold digital emulator in my opinion and much to expensive. Just listen to the demos on the site..
And I promiss you my Boss Vf1 is warmer than the Axe and I'm not a boss sales man and not trying to be clever.
You're talking out of your #$%#$%. I have an Axe and it obliterates every other amp modeling box before you add a single effect. You can get lost playing one basic Fender model for days/months. It's totally worth the $. I've spent 10s of thousands of dollars on gear and it's probably the best gear purchase I've ever made. I've barely scratched the surface of it and I'm getting some of the best, most touch-sensitive sounds of my life at almost any volume. It's amazing.
Congratulations mick! You´re da best. I love your go crazy version. Do you use the effects loop of the ac30 or all the effects are in front of it? Thanks man
so many different pups with different prices. Im hesitant to rec a pup because tastes are so different. Kinmans are expensive. They are my fav pup and i use them in 2 of my strats. For me they are the best. In my setup and tastes they are the best...
my rack is on its side the bottom or right of the axe in the pic is 2 half racks. One closest to the bottom is my wireless and the one on top is a square1 interface. Theres a good view of my rack on my new vid I posted from the new u2 album at least i hope it will be on the album :)
Any ideas for settings on a Pod XT for Bad? I been using 2 comps, and still the sound has no balls! What is the Axe 'path'? And can I run it with a very clean AC30CC2X..
I dont think I mute much on that string..The compression is from the crap camcorder along with natural compression from my amp. I dont use much comp as an effect much anymore. I use to be hooked on the dynacomp but i find it takes away from your core guitar/amp sound.(squashed) sound
I would use just a mono delay..On the Pod i would choose the "analog delay with mod" set that to 360. I never really liked the stereo delay option on the Pods.
Sounds great, man! Does the Axe FX Ultra do dual delays? I have a TC2290 and the one thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't do dual delays. What ms delay are you using for streets and aiwiy?
Does this unit work OK looped through an FX loop on say a tube amp head? Can you use it as just a processor without using the amp modelling? I don't want to compramize the tone of my amps. Do you get a foot controller with it? Thanks
Thanks...Yes you can. You can actually wire it up using the effect loop of an amp with the effect loop in the axe and get effects in the axe pre amp and some effects post amp. You basically are dividing your preamp and poweramp sections and slipping effects between. Its called a 4 wire cable method. I plan on doing this with an amp thats being built for me right now
I really dont use set presets or much of any type of chain. Its simply a delay in the Axe. key is the time and modulation. I dont use amp sims or much else except drive blocks when needed. Really i only use the Axe at its min. I love because its compact and does everything I need it to do. My core sound is my guitar and my amp
Can you post the streets and last 2 delay tracks on this video to axe fx exchange or to me :) please (and send me the link)? or would that be giving away your jewels? im terrible with delay settings :(
Mick, I have PMed you about this before- what's up with the mod depth on the delay- this vid makes me sea sick. It seems really abrupt in your YouTubes without your band, but fine on the full band stuff. Do you adjust the mod depth from venue to venue, or does the band swallow some of it?
I dont change anything. It does sound deep here. not sure why. Modulation seems to be different from player to player. Hopefully i dont make you throw up :)
Sir, Many thanks for your reply. I have just bought an Axess FX1 Midi Footcontroller, but have subsequently been advised that it would not change patches on an Axe Ultra. Can you confirm that you can do this with yours.
You can call me Mick :) The FX1 is king when it comes to midi controllers. it can surly change presets, parameters, effects, just about anything and everything in the Axe or any midi unit. Whoever told you that is incorrect
Chief are you playing chords or notes for the chorus of all i want is you ? I play chords but it does not sound like that . maybe thats because i am shite ?

It's totally worth the $. I've spent 10s of thousands of dollars on gear and it's probably the best gear purchase I've ever made. I've barely scratched the surface of it and I'm getting some of the best, most touch-sensitive sounds of my life at almost any volume. It's amazing.

Congratulations mick! You´re da best. I love your go crazy version. Do you use the effects loop of the ac30 or all the effects are in front of it? Thanks man
fisioaura 2 years ago
Thanks I dont have an effect loop on my ac30. mine started as a RI ac30 which has been modded by Psionic audio..Everything goes in front
mick3b1g 2 years ago
Hey Mick, I noticed your Axe FX presets sound a bit more closer to the edge tone than your m13 presets. Which would you prefer?
DiscoBuiscuit 2 years ago
Hey...nice playing...btw...can any midi controller be used with this?
prashanthosur 2 years ago
Incredible, spot-on tones. Sounds more like The Edge than The Edge -- better than his concert tones and that's a hell of an achievement!
Could we trouble you to discuss the tone stack - how you develop each tone in terms of effects, settings and order for each of the three songs?

Would you reccomend the Kinman's to someone who is looking for a bright chimey sound for their strat?
TheAmalgamut 3 years ago
so many different pups with different prices. Im hesitant to rec a pup because tastes are so different. Kinmans are expensive. They are my fav pup and i use them in 2 of my strats. For me they are the best. In my setup and tastes they are the best...

I use Kinmans in two of my Strats as well.
chukrock 2 years ago
Hey Mick what pickups are in your Strat? Sounds dead on Edge, very impressive.
subinbar 3 years ago
Thanks..Kinman Woodstocks
mick3b1g 3 years ago
Ahhh - because they are modeled after the '69 fenders? Probably closest you can get.
subinbar 3 years ago
that's the best streets sound i've heard anywhere - sounds bang on Edge's live sound. Impressive unit.
Moltisanti 3 years ago 2
How much does that footswitch cost also? Is that part of the unit?
toml71 3 years ago
How much does this unit cost? Sounds awesome!
toml71 3 years ago
Hey Mick! Im curious to know what is the other rack unit to the right of your Axe? Thanks.
mkutz007 3 years ago
my rack is on its side the bottom or right of the axe in the pic is 2 half racks. One closest to the bottom is my wireless and the one on top is a square1 interface. Theres a good view of my rack on my new vid I posted from the new u2 album at least i hope it will be on the album :)
mick3b1g 3 years ago
You should do the full version of where the streets have no name.

Any ideas for settings on a Pod XT for Bad? I been using 2 comps, and still the sound has no balls! What is the Axe 'path'? And can I run it with a very clean AC30CC2X..
theedge269 3 years ago
oh ya and do you use any compression?
thebonodrums 3 years ago
ok one more thing on streets lol are you muting the G string in the riff?
thebonodrums 3 years ago
I dont think I mute much on that string..The compression is from the crap camcorder along with natural compression from my amp. I dont use much comp as an effect much anymore. I use to be hooked on the dynacomp but i find it takes away from your core guitar/amp sound.(squashed) sound
mick3b1g 3 years ago
hey mick great playing...on streets i have a line 6 pod xt live and it has stereo delays...i know one should be at 360 what should the other be at?
thebonodrums 3 years ago
I would use just a mono delay..On the Pod i would choose the "analog delay with mod" set that to 360. I never really liked the stereo delay option on the Pods.
mick3b1g 3 years ago
k cool thanks mick :) arent you on U2start now?

Sounds great, man! Does the Axe FX Ultra do dual delays? I have a TC2290 and the one thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't do dual delays. What ms delay are you using for streets and aiwiy?
petruccirocks02 3 years ago
it sure does..I sold my TC2290 because of this unit. Streets was 360ms and All I want was 478ms
Thanks
mick
mick3b1g 3 years ago
This sounds awesome, great playing too.
Does this unit work OK looped through an FX loop on say a tube amp head? Can you use it as just a processor without using the amp modelling? I don't want to compramize the tone of my amps. Do you get a foot controller with it? Thanks
dingle1 3 years ago
Thanks...Yes you can. You can actually wire it up using the effect loop of an amp with the effect loop in the axe and get effects in the axe pre amp and some effects post amp. You basically are dividing your preamp and poweramp sections and slipping effects between. Its called a 4 wire cable method. I plan on doing this with an amp thats being built for me right now
mick3b1g 3 years ago
Thanks for the info my friend, God bless! I better get saving ;-)

That's creepy how exact they are
BLACKMAGICMETALMAN12 3 years ago
Hiya Mick
great stuff - which patch numbers/ names/ presets are you using on the Ultra, Streets especially? Any modifications? Cheers buddy.
bufon63 3 years ago
I really dont use set presets or much of any type of chain. Its simply a delay in the Axe. key is the time and modulation. I dont use amp sims or much else except drive blocks when needed. Really i only use the Axe at its min. I love because its compact and does everything I need it to do. My core sound is my guitar and my amp
mick3b1g 3 years ago
hiya Mick,
Can you post the streets and last 2 delay tracks on this video to axe fx exchange or to me :) please (and send me the link)? or would that be giving away your jewels? im terrible with delay settings :(
bufon63 3 years ago
no words! simply awesome... XD as always. GREAT
Edge985 3 years ago
Mick, I have PMed you about this before- what's up with the mod depth on the delay- this vid makes me sea sick. It seems really abrupt in your YouTubes without your band, but fine on the full band stuff. Do you adjust the mod depth from venue to venue, or does the band swallow some of it?
wildmorphlaw 3 years ago
I dont change anything. It does sound deep here. not sure why. Modulation seems to be different from player to player. Hopefully i dont make you throw up :)
mick3b1g 3 years ago
Your Edge playing only makes me throw up in a good way. :) Walk on brotha!
wildmorphlaw 3 years ago
Many thanks for your most useful information.
P.S. Anyone who plays a guitar as well as you deserves to be called `Sir`.
yogibear0744 3 years ago
Sir, is that an Axess Midi footcontroller in the foreground. If so, are you using it to control the Axe Fx Ultra in any way?
yogibear0744 3 years ago
It is..its an All access FX1. I use it to control the effects in my axe as well as change presets, exp pedals ect..
mick3b1g 3 years ago
Sir, Many thanks for your reply. I have just bought an Axess FX1 Midi Footcontroller, but have subsequently been advised that it would not change patches on an Axe Ultra. Can you confirm that you can do this with yours.
yogibear0744 3 years ago
You can call me Mick :) The FX1 is king when it comes to midi controllers. it can surly change presets, parameters, effects, just about anything and everything in the Axe or any midi unit. Whoever told you that is incorrect
mick3b1g 3 years ago
Great work Mick. Can I ask which preset numbers/ names you are using? Many thanks.
