Never ask for time off in advance if you have something you really wanna do. Always call in the day of and pretend to be really, really sick. They can't say anything about it then. The next day keep up the act, maybe bring a real pill bottle filled with candy pills & pop them. You could even act like you're having & relapse and ask to go home early, by then they'll really feel bad for you.

Go the the Waits web site RIght now free downloads of around seven songs from the big tour in 2008. Double album of Glitter and Doom being released in a couple of weeks...(Dec 2009), and also Orphans is being released as a seven LP box set.....!

The production was very well done but Tom's voice sounded unusually trashed. I hope he's taking care of himself.

Well, as a voice major, I can tell you his voice is technically trashed - but I loved your reply to my comment. It verifies that each of us have our own version of awesome and THAT is what's awesome. Glad you are such a fan of Tom.

just to clarify--have you heard waits' voice when he was in his 20s? basically the same voice. i contend that it's no more trashed now than it was then.  i've got a master's in voice, and i think we're both well aware that he's not concerned too much with his technique as much as his delivery. which i LOVE! :-)

well in fairness now he sounded completely different on "closing time" and "the heart of saturday night"...it wasn't until "nighthawks" that his voice became a bit hoarse and it has gotten more and more hoarse since...not in a bad way...i love every stage of his voice...but it certainly has changed...
