As much as I love ALL of the Gradius series, my true favorite will have to remain Gradius III for a number of reasons. Mainly because of the incredible challenge, but also for sheer level & boss design. There was some truly cool shit in that game.

All that aside, I didn't even know about this game until recently, but I'm definitely going to check it out, as it seems like it would be pretty fun!

@RichieEastside Technos went under but Arc system works now owns the Kunio kun liscence (River city ransom is basically kunio kun 2 but replaced their names and school clothes with more american names and look.)

How disappointing. I wish Konami would stop messing around and bring Gradius Gaiden which never got a USA release to the VC. It was the best Gradius next to Gradius V. It also had the best soundtrack of any Gradius.

I think Gradius III is the image for the SNES. It's what set how I look at SNES. It was also the first SNES game I played. I was a little familiar with Gradius III because I previously played Life Force on the NES. When I first saw the Weapon Select/ Weapon Edit menu, I was thrilled and a gasped and floored by the spread of all the weapons to choose from, because Life Force didn't have a Weapon Select? Weapon Edit menu. You just had a preset selection and that was it.

The power-up bar and laser sound effects are taken straight from the MSX version of Gradius 2/Nemesis 2. The stage intro music is the same one used in Nemesis 3: The Eve of Destruction/G: Gofer no Yabou Episode II fvor the MSX.  The main stage music is the same one used in Stage 3 of the NES version of Gradius II.

This will definitely be my first WiiWare purchase (along with MegaMan 9).

It's a mostly redone game, and ryanc519, that level with the volcano has been in just about every gradius game so far. o' course, it got sucked into a black hole in gradius gaiden, flooded with lava in gradius IV, colonized in Gradius advance, all kinds of stuff.

It depends on which of the (I'd like to call them stations) you destroy. If you destroy the white one it'll snow. If you destroy the red one rocks will fly out of mountains like a volcano...
