Believe it or not, this opera actually became well loved outside of Russia in its time (and forgotten thereafter). It was always performed in French outside of Russia, while Eugene Onegin was performed in German! She does a wonderful job, and hearing it in Russian is the best (my favorite is Irina Arkhipova, though). Her diction is to die for, would that Renee Fleming would take lessons in actually singing words from a singer like this.

She has quite bright a voice, which reminds me of Zajick and Cossotto.

This kind of quality enables them all to sing soprano as well as mezzo.

That is right. Sometimes recordings takes away from the voice. I heard Dolora Zajick alive and her voice is-MAN!- is dark and bright in the same time! Different in recording, the overtones are not the same!

She is a mezzo, and somebody' s opinion is she is a contralto. She has a very wide range though, she can sing anything.

You SHOULD hear her when she sings russian songs , lieder...there is a lot of wonferful artistry to learn from!!She sings this beautiful aria with soul ,tones of heart , technique and also natural voice!!
