I have a '83 944 Non-turbo but it's going to need plenty of work. The only thing going for it right now is that it runs. It needs body work/paint, sunroof, major interior work, electrical work (lights don't pop up), and tires. I found a place that will put it back together again but I'm really wondering if it's going to be worth it. This 944 and a 928 is stuffed in my small garage.
@Hojemwod Oh, my seat is all the way back and tilted really far back as well. I can't use the sun visor and I can't see the traffic lights when I'm stopped at intersections because of the angle and it does appear like I'm sleeping. But I'm comfortable. =]
I'm practically held up by my hand holding onto the steering wheel because I'm sitting that far back.
11.8 thats pretty good. You don't see the 944 gettin much better time. But they aren't really meant to be drag cars so that's pretty good. I'm hopin to get a 944 here soon. What did you put into yours?
thanks. I installed lindsey racings 340 hp to start with then went from there, ive done almost everything listed on thier site for the 944. they've got everything to make the 944 beat the best out there, ive got the 951 max chips and a tunable air fuel ratio map i can adjust with my pc. everylittle bit of power helps.
Hey, I have an '83 944. I want to fix it up to run well. Not to drag or anything (It's my daily driver - unfortunately). I really hate putting miles on it (has around 80k) Bout to buy another for $1,500. Any advice?
where do you live? find a local porsche specialist(shop) and start talking to them. i'm not talking about the dealerships. i would love to fix my 951 on my own but getting the right equipment would be mad expensive. hope that helps.
Holy shit 10.1 thats freakin sweet. Yah lindsey is the way to go. They know just about everything. I'm gonna subscribe to your stuff in case you ever get that 10 second run.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CHEAP PORSCHE. Its just where you want to spend money... in upfront costs to buy new, or for costly service money with a used car . (100 an hour for me)
Go buy one hotshot! Buy a 951 for 8 grand....and then tell me in a few months how quickly that 8k turned into a 20k car.
depending on the yr and condition of the 944 turbo the can b a little as 3500 all the way up to 20g...that's 20yrs after they went out of production. obviously the cheaper one's won't last long, but once the parts are replaced or rebuilt, they an be very reliable
you just explained my 944, no one really serviced it so now im payin for it, bought it for 3,500 too, but after i fixed the problems its been fine since.
mines a non turbo, its leaks oil and coolant, leaks coolant into the oil that is, headgasket is blown a lil, ive replaced a few hoses, some few regulator thing that sits on top the fuel rail, teh fans dont work so wired those to a switch, and the odometer stoped working, happens a lot... new bearings and what not, bushings and etc..., but despite all the problems its a pretty solid car,, i run the car harder than normal and i still get good mileage. im looking forward to a turbo someday
Sounds like you shouldnt own a 944 if all that stuff is leaking. These cars are cheap to buy but not cheap to own and maintain properly. I hate when people call them the poor mans Porsche because after servicing they are not that cheap. Get a honda guy.
thats why they are leakeing lol trust me i knw how much it is to fix the car, ive done a lot already, but when you buy it from a guy who isnt honest at all that happens, and i will not get a honda, im getting a 944 turbo, thats already had the timeing belt and other priorities replaced
My point exactly. New top end and timing belts is only 3 grand max. When you get to the turbo you will have at least a couple of those bills. Unless you spend 12,000 or so on a car. Trust me I have had like six turbo cars and 3 n/a. Murphys law. lol but dont let me scare you with the right amount of patience you can have a nice one.
yea the guy im probly gonna get one off of is a mechanic and he owns it so hes done th e important stuff, i just basically want the turbo for a while then im gonna put a chevy in it
@darkeyce02 your odometer problem is most likely the cause of a broken pastic gear behind the guage. i had the same problem with my 944. its pretty common. i replaced the gear and now its like new.
what the fuck do you mean cheap, you obviously don't pay for repairs. There is no such thing as a cheap Porsche. The cheaper they are to buy, the more expensive they are to drive and maintain.
I have a friend who dumps 2 grand in his 951 (944 Turbo) each month. "They aren't expensive" HAHAHAHA! yeah fucking right!
Keep a 22 year old Porsche on the road... while boosting and driving hard. Then tell me what cheap is.
If you really pay 2 grand a month to keep a car worth less the 8 on the road... then you are either A) Rich as fuck, and dont care about the 37 cars in your garage, B) Sentimental as hell... or C) a fucking moron...
I know which one Im thinking....
FWIW a mint condition late 80's 944 Turbo sells for less then 8 g's boss... If you want, I can take a picture of the 4 in my back yard, and email it to you. One of my 944's I had converted over to an LS2. Reliable, sexy car :)
yeah they aren't expensive until you take it to the shop for anything. you cant find porsche work for under $85 an hour whether its a carrera gt or a 924. so don't say "they aren't expensive"
Your dampers are too soft, get some harder. My friend bought from "Boge" modell "turbo" great value at low price and made in Germany. Or you spent much more an buy K&W adusttable dampers....
Ive an 944 S2 with M030 option which contains yellow KONI
Wish they had the dash control damper knob like in aftermarket BMW upgrades. Vettes have option. Porsche 997S shocks are crazy price to replace, constant auto damper
This is going to be my first car. I'm just lucky I live in atlanta where there's one being posted every day. :D

Looks like you may need to do some tuning... from all that smoke looks to be running quite rich.

I tried to drive one but I couldnt fit, 6ft 6 is to tall for a Miata, I fit in the 951 great though.
Piperporsche180944 2 years ago
Everyone fits in the 951. It has SO much space. I feel like a midget and I'm 6ft 2..
annoying though when you try to get out.. always on the floor.. or theres hand prints all over the roof from pulling myself out

very cheap ^^
but

porsche service & maintenance cost very much.
u need a pretty good job(or a nice dad =D) to afford a porsche. any porsche.

If you take your time to find a very well kept car and you can do the maintenance it's like owning any other car where you do the service yourself.

a 1200$ 924 is a cheap car. a 9,000$ 944 turbo s is a cheap car...
