i have a levono x100e and when i turn it on a dash shows up and it doesnt go to the home screen, and i dont know how to windows on it, if thats what is wrong with it.
that keyboard is terrible. when I buy a thinkpad, I want a real thinkpad keyboard, not one of those stupid chiclet keyboards that only the MacBooks can get right.
I wish the mouse nub was more common in other manufacturers laptops. I think it's a great option, especially if you type, then click, then type a lot.
OMG, space key is so tiny :D! Either way, wish they released it with dual core CULV for decent performance and battery life maintaining the same price.
While the video is nice, the bulk of the review dwells on forcing the computer to play a video to on the lowest power setting, which I feel isn't an appropriate test, as hi-def video is very demanding, and most intel video chipped netbooks cannot play hi-def video--at all.
As far as feeling slower than a netboook, the benchmarks seem to showing otherwise. I am also curious on benchmarks on Ubuntu 64, in keeping that the processor is 64 bit, and people have it going on this machine.
@BrendaEM benchmarks show promise in performance mode, yes but battery mode is the mode that feels slow.
Most Intel graphic chipsets do support 1080p playback these days, btw. The reason it did not play here is because of the particular power setting Lenovo ships with this model.
Lastly, agreed, could have done a better review but I'm learning as always.
I don't have the x100e anymore so I cannot do further testing.
*** I agree, it should be obvious that the lowest power battery mode keeps the cpu clocked down. A simple check of the My Computer properties would've probably shown the CPU clocked down (like all notebooks on power save mode) to maybe 800mhz, explaining why the usage went from 50% to 100%. Most Atom CPUs are not capable of smooth 1080p video period. All of this is moot of course because the screen resolution is only slightly above 720p, removing the need to play 1080p video except externally.
I'm fairly certain your 1080p problem in battery mode is due to Lenovo's utility disabling Aero. MPC-HD uses EVR rendering to do DXVA and disabling Aero disables EVR. So if you want battery mode + 1080P, stick with Windows 7 power profiles.
I love the build and design of this thing, but man the AMD implementation is disappointing all around. Not only because they should of gone with Intel, but this AMD machine gets less battery than similarly equipped machines.
Okay. Then show me a Notebook as small as this, as comfortable than this, es tough as this and with an IGP as reliable and powerfull as the HD3200 for 500 bucks and more than 5h of working on battery mode.
My point was that it doesn't seem to be able to get 5+hours, most reviews spot it at as low as 3.5 to 4 hours. While Toshiba's t135D/t115D gets 5 hours with dual core processors and the same HD3200.
I friend of mine tested it with new BIOS (1.10a). He got 5,5h (65% brightnes, WLAN deactivated) working with Adobe Indesign and surfing via UMTS. With undervolting you can safe 30% of CPU-energy. So will get one hour more..
Sounds good. I wait for a dualcore X100 until April and than i will buy it, no matter if 1core or 2core. :)
I'm trying to understand why you would want to watch 1080p video on that screen in the first place. The screen doesnt have the resolution to display 1080p so its going to have to scale the video down. Just stick to native resolution of 720p.
Also I dont understand how youre only getting 3 to 4 hours of battery life on that when Hexus got 3hours and 13 minutes on a MSI with the same guts looping a 480p video. Actually the MSI had the DUAL core Neo l335, so battery life should have been worse
it's faster than trackpad. Plus you can use it without taking hands off the keyboard. THinkpads always have been focused on excellent writing comfort. Trackpoint is great for touch typing, which is the most efficent type of typing
That's a traditional ThinkPad characteristic. If it didn't have a trackpoint, it wouldn't be a ThinkPad. More to the point, I would venture to say that the majority of ThinkPad owners use the trackpoint more than the trackpad. I mayself have an x61, which doesn't have a trackpad, and I do fine. You can move the cursor and scroll faster than with a trackpad. All without moving your hand. Some people love it, others hate it.
I'd pay the premium just for the keyboard and build quality, I don't think there is anything in the market (except a MacBook maybe) with such qualities
its nice, and it can support 4GB ram
downside its AMD..............

The best thing to do is to buy the X100e, and replace the HDD with a 128GB SSD, put 2 DIMMs of 4Gb (total 8GB) and you're rocking!!!!

@farl69 Yeah 1080p on a 1366 x 768 display doesn't make sense but you can always hook up the device to a larger monitor to playback 1080p video.
