In the original script, Winston was in the movie from the beginning. The character was intended to be played by Eddie Murphy. I guess after he turned it down the studio decided to cut his part in half. I don't know why. It still would've worked.
LOL I bet that kid wanted the wish to be something about Ghostbusters or something
Ernie seems like a cool dude, I never had a problem with him being gone from the movie poster, I know from when I was a kid that I always pictured all 4 together, but Ernie is right, he wasn't an essential character until the second half of the film. Egon, Ray and Peter were long time friends/accomplices prior to doing the ghost thing.
Did you meet him when he was touring for his Jake movie? I met him back in October as well and he also mentioned the Ghostbusters thing. After his depressing story tho I didn't want to be "that guy" and ask him about Ghostbusters 3, altho I wish I had now cuz of all this game buzz going on.
Ernie is awesome! I met him at Horrorfind in Hunt Valley, MD back in August - and he was one of the coolest dudes I have ever talked to. I was ALWAYS a big fan of the Ghostbusters franchise since I was little, so getting to actually MEET a Ghostbuster was freakin awesome :) And for a man who is 62 years old...he looks like he's in his early 40's!
It's a shame that things turned a little sour working on Ghostbusters, but its nice to see he has put it behind him to do the video game. Fans should check out his grest performance on the OZ.
Sure he's the black guy but really it came down to a few things. The three guys who started the business. The three established well known comedic actors at the time. That's really all it is. He was hired halfway through the movie and it is what it is.The character really took on an equal life of it's own in the Real Ghostbusters cartoon though fortunately. Ghostbusters 2 he got a little more but really in the first half, its the 3 guys or the scientists investigating etc.
I completely agree with you. I always felt Winston's character was the sort of "average joe" the viewer could relate to when watching the movie. He didn't have a lot of personality in the film though the cartoon rendition of the character really made him feel honorable and brave.
That aside, it still doesn't make sense to remove him from the first poster and games. Then again, there was a Ghostbusters game on the NES that included him as well as Louis.
As much as I love Ernie Hudson and he's a great guy, it just sucks for him to be confronted with the non-existent "Racism" in Ghostbusters. I'm sure he's always been getting it. Asked why he's not included.
ernie is a really nice guy, i think it was the only one who spontaniously spoke to you on facts 2007, even if you didn't bought an autographed picture like me...
I hate that Ernie isn't in the early ghost busters games.. It's like the game makers where fucking rasists or something.. Fucking assholes. AVGN KICKS ASS!! YOOO
Too cool. A Ghostbuster, and my best online friend lives in Ghent, in the Dutch speaking region of Belgium. ;)
Too cool he made the AVGN referance and talked about it. This must've been so cool for James. Long live Ernie Hudson. I just bought The Crow and he is great in that as well. GREAT ACTOR ...
Hudson is awesome. Some day man, James Rolfe will co-star in the next Ghostbusters film, besides un-talented fuckers like Shila LeBouf or any other retarted modern-day young stars
Great interview! I was there sunday and Ernie Hudson is indeed a very nice guy. It's been my greatest wish since I was a child to meet someone from Ghostbusters in real life and that day it finally came true! Looking forward to the videogame!
I have that same poster and had been wondering about his conspicuous absence for a long time. It's a sobering thought that the studios still maintained a 'less of the black guy' attitude in my lifetime, even though it was a while back. On a brighter note the GB cartoon series I grew up watching always seemed to give the four characters equal attention, and that I think was a very positive thing in terms of encouraging racial equality for a kid.
Well, Winston never was as popular as Peter, Egon or Ray were. Not that there's anything wrong about that. I guess he added the final, defining element that the Ghostbusters needed.
Nice to have him back and with a very well positive responses interview towards the game as well toward the wishing charity too. At least I know the game is still in production. :)
I am glad to hear that all the guys will be doing the voices for the video game. There just have been too many video games with bad voice impersonators.
Great interview! Ernie played my favorite Ghostbuster, and had the best line in the first film. And just like his character, he's so down-to-earth, you gotta love him.
Very good interview, and it was a nice suprise to hear my rants about him being missing from many of the video games, to be addressed to the man himself. Thank you. It made my day.
I loved this guy in The Crow

there is a GOOD Ghostbusters nintendo game, unlike the other shitty ones, with all 4 characters called ''New Ghostbusters - 2''.

-Who is publishing it?
-Is it a all region game?(stupid question really)
-When will they make an worldwide official annoucement?
-And who(company) is developing it?(Last thing I know it was Zootfly)
