Seal had a form of lupus as a child, which is an autoimmune disorder. This type attacked the tissue in his face. The disease went away in about a year, but left him with these scars. He rocks, scars and all! :-)

This was such a good moment for her... I knew she wouldn't be in Top 2, though she worked hard enough to get there. I'm really glad they gave her this song with Seal... she'll definitely have a great career after Idol, as will both of the Davids and some of the other contestants this season (hopefully Michael and Carly).
