Sorry for my whimsy, but I am totally unimpressed with those who cannot live without music, or who have been singing since before they were born, and so on! As you can guess, I am totally the opposite, for I like music in small bouts, and am fed up with the constant and over-loud musical bombardment that inundates us all wherever we go!

She is a fabulous freak, almost certainly the best piano player on the planet! However, her playing is a "musical masturbation" that gives her more pleasure than it does her audience! A bunch of us saw her concert in Markham (Canada). Of course, we were all in awe of her precocious talents and we loved her ready personal charm, but the music itself was not particularly pleasing. In short, Her concert was all about showing off her awesome technical abilities rather than the music! Pity!

@WeeWyllie I hear you, but I think that's unfair. Sometimes her playing is more insightful than others, but I think she works pretty hard here to expand on the themes of the head. Then there's the important question: Should an artist aim to please others before herself? I can think of many "artists" who have allowed the transient tastes of their audience to shape their musical work. Where are they now?

@Zeecarver Whoops, we have crossed wires here! We all enjoyed the concert and Hiromi's prodigious talent - not to say, charm.  Nonetheless, the audience (or, at least, ALL the members I spoke to) were somewhat disappointed that her focus appeared to be solely on presenting [quite monotonous] technically difficulty rather than on presenting something pleasing. But I would go to see her again - after say, a year's hiatus! ;-)

I love the few artiststs that can push it beyon humans limits ...Its a big risk when ur doing this live but she always manage to get those unplayable things (5 minutes 23 seconds watch that !!!!!) this is stuff that i can see and envy but its really hard to do groovy funky jazzy repertoires (especially freestyle). Cause u needa be born with the soul in you, to be implanted with that rhythm. and gosh. the piano solo at 6:00 needed lots of stamina and definitely some muscle. tried banging my hands off doing freestyle progression and my hands do hurt. imagine seeing hands faster than the camera at 6.00-6.15. props. incredible :)
