Once Governor grey Davis was done with hiring on an additional full 1/3 more state employees,as well as giving sweetheart deals with unions, the state employers have been leaving in droves.
I live in San Diego, CA and we suffered from a corruption scandal a few years back. We entered a recession 1 year prior to the rest of the country. Prior to that money was free flowing to many. Now, going 2 a job interview is like going to a casting call. Many government job training programs and free classes have shut down long ago. I went to a job fair with only 6 companies present & only 2 were hiring. In a brief seminar we were told to consider internships & not say that we can't afford it.
I appreciate this mans efforts but the truth is that California is ran by liberals who think the government owes them a living. Thus, they will simply expect the Federal Government to bail them out. And they will, because they are "Too BIg to Fail". Where have we heard that before. Unless America becomes real conservative overnight, we are screwed. We must have a real Tea Party movement that means we Stop run away spending!
But saying that, I still like watching the us media & vids more on the internet then uk media, which keeps everything glossed over & silent in the uk. In the usa, the media is much more open talkin about the problems going on and i like watching ppl's videos showing how it really looks and is there, away from the misleading media impressions. I packed up and left after my bike insurance went from 265 to 465 , and i asked them why ??? They said because i live in california...That was the last straw , wife and i are gone after 30 years of living there...and have a much better quality of life now...

The state is broke beyond everything. Now the situation is if you let your car registration to expire, the penalties are $200. The speeding ticket that is $30 in Texas is $110 in CA. A better idea is to just move. How long do you wish to suffer? Of course, we are struggling as a coutry but CA is just in wrong hands. Because the "conservatives" wanted far more from their gov than they were willing to pay in taxes. All of us have been caught wanting more than we can afford.

He also was being advised to make those investments by WS banks who placed those investments. So lets lose the crap that Citron did this all by himself. Second the reason that he made those risky investments in the first place was because as the population of OC grew, so did the demand for public services. But no one wanted to pay higher....

I don't think you will find a money manager, public or private, that will say that high-risk dirivatives are an appropriate investment for public funds. If I remember correctly, those that gave Citron the go-ahead were only looking at the high returns from previous investments and did not fully understand the risks.

THEY knew what was going on because Citron told them what was up, they were willing to take the risk. The only part I disagree with is the buy up of commodities (Gold, Silver) If you didn't buy them before the recession then you missed the boat. Now the money can be better used elsewhere for preparation. If the markets fail and the economy goes down commodity prices will not be what they are today they would be a negotiated price.

@JohnRinNoHo First of all they weren't inappropriate. Citron told all the cities/County Board of Commissioners what he was doing and they said proceed. He also was being advised to make those investments by WS banks who placed those investments. So lets lose the crap that Citron did this all by himself. Second the reason that he made those risky investments in the first place was because as the population of OC grew, so did the demand for public services. But no one wanted to pay higher....

Thats where the bullshit got heavy, the folks in the OC wanted their property values to continue to go up, they needed public services in order to get those higher property values, they simply didn't want to pay for them. Instead they bought the nonsense of the free market. Yeah well having WS help to manage over $2billion of investments aint free and as their fees went up, the returns went down. So risky investments were the only way.

I don't think you will find a money manager, public or private, that will say that high-risk dirivatives are an appropriate investment for public funds. If I remember correctly, those that gave Citron the go-ahead were only looking at the high returns from previous investments and did not fully understand the risks.

@JohnRinNoHo That was exactly what was sold to the county administrators, that they could do MUCH better if they placed their money with private managers rather than have the county do their own investment management. THEY knew what was going on because Citron told them what was up, they were willing to take the risk. Other counties said no thanks to that swan song, e.g. San Benardino heard the same WS song and dance and said forget it. Somehow they were a lot smarter than OC managers.

I'm a college student so debt is a way of life. So I'm going to survivalist thing. The only part I disagree with is the buy up of commodities (Gold, Silver) If you didn't buy them before the recession then you missed the boat. Now the money can be better used elsewhere for preparation. If the markets fail and the economy goes down commodity prices will not be what they are today they would be a negotiated price.

I think if the California Republic were it's own nation it would have the 5th largest economy in the world. Don't fear the global economic collapse. A new system waits for us. It is called common law or natural law. until we learn these laws exist and how they apply to us we will always be "CITIZENS" (slavery has been outlawed and the next step up from a slave is citizen).

We will do fine after the collapse. Doesn't anyone remember that we had the milkman, small farmers, guys selling electical stuff on the street corner?? Corps took all those over and destroyed it, but that is what we can return to.

I have a friend who is a retired police officer (50 something) who "earns" over $100,000 a year on his state funded pension.
Unrealistic state funded benifits like these will eventually bring down the entire state in the very near future...

There should be NO bailout! California should go bankrupt under Chapter 11 reorganization. Then the feds can force the cuts necessary that the Liberals will not do. Why, because liberals will never cut for the very reason that its other peoples money they are spending/wasting! Chapter 11 Bankruptcy is not the end of the world. In fact this type of bankruptcy would be good for California, Remember, liberals will beat the dead horse till their is no carcass left.
