omg i so freaked out when my rat teady started doing that! he was laying on the couch with me and his face was next to mine i thought they where about to pop.

my rat is like so jumpy it wont stay still! how do i make him relax? he is only like 6-8 months.

jumpy as in high energy? give him a long play time then come back in the middle of their sleep and pet them. but even this doesn't work all the time.
your rat is gorgeous! my rat was doing that yesterday and it really scared me! i ddnt know what it was!! now ive found out its normal so its ok! =D

I'm not exactly sure but I think it has something to do with tthe muscles in their jaw when they grind their teeth.

It's one of the ways, my girls were a half year old before they started doing this. Every rat is different.
It's actually a series of air pockets in their head that do that.

Mine don't seem to do it much. They much rather exlpore then relax. I'm surprised no one was jumping out the door when I was recording this, lol
