What about Georgia - quite an undeveloped democracy, more a banana republic! 1991 there was democratically elected a president, but then a junta took power in 1992, put a KGB general as president, rigged elections and kept power till 2003. The minister of justice of this junta was somehow democratic elected president in 2005, but election in 2007 were fraudalent, opposition media closed, etc. Not a nice democracy, I think. In fact, Abkhazia is more democratic - opposition won presidency in 2004!
I have a quite simple and easy rule when it comes to separatist regions, i support those regions that belong to some totalitarian states and want to not only get independent but also free. Therefore i support Chechnya struggle for independence and I for example support the idea of a free Kurdistan which would like an oasis of freedom in a region of terror and dictatorship.
I have a more easy and simple rule - all peoples of a certain area and population should have right to freedom and independency! If Quebec want independency, it's fine for me. But, apparently, they don't want. In a democratic society there are smaller incitaments to get independency.

Of course there are brutalities in a war. But just give a short thought to numbers - maybe in Basayev's actions there was killed 2-300 persons (killed not by him, but by Russian soldiers, though). What is that compared to 250-260.000 civilians killed? It's a fraction! If the definition of a terrorist is that it's a person prepared to kill civilians in order to achieve political goals - then Yeltsin and Putin are the big terrorists having comparable people only in the Third Reich.

They have the same rights, none forbidds them to go to the mosque, none forbids them to demonstrate or express themeselves... The only thing that is comparable to Apartheid is the segregation but you got to understand that it is for security reasons, I am for example not supporting the idea of the great wall down there but on the other hand I understand that people want to have it if it reduced terrorist attacks by 90%! You gotta have a little empathy. The main problem is not Palestine though.

Hamas won the most democratic election ever in an arabic country. What happened? Did they get support from other democratic countries? The victims of Hezbollah terrorism may also be counted on one hand's fingers - but cluster bombs and other bombings in Lebanon in 2006. Well lets close the thing with -Israel its offtopic. But regarding the death count than it is true, more palestinians die. Why? 1. Some of them kill eachother (fatah vs Hamas f.ex.) 2. Israelis use heavier weapons and that can lead to miscalculations sometimes resulting in massacres. 3.Terroists often use human shields like hezbollah 4.Palesinan extremists kill less but in a much crueler way often, they suddenly come from nowhere and detonate bombs in a metropolis, killing kids in school etc.

Since 2006 the cluster bombs and mine fields Israel placed in Lebanon have killed a lot more pre-school children than all terrorist attacks by Palestinians during last 50 years. I think it's quite cruel to kill children, to do it deliberately.

What about Georgia - quite an undeveloped democracy, more a banana republic! 1991 there was democratically elected a president, but then a junta took power in 1992, put a KGB general as president, rigged elections and kept power till 2003. The minister of justice of this junta was somehow democratic elected president in 2005, but election in 2007 were fraudalent, opposition media closed, etc. Not a nice democracy, I think. In fact, Abkhazia is more democratic - opposition won presidency in 2004!

I have a quite simple and easy rule when it comes to separatist regions, i support those regions that belong to some totalitarian states and want to not only get independent but also free. Therefore i support Chechnya struggle for independence and I for example support the idea of a free Kurdistan which would like an oasis of freedom in a region of terror and dictatorship.

I have a more easy and simple rule - all peoples of a certain area and population should have right to freedom and independency! If Quebec want independency, it's fine for me. But, apparently, they don't want. In a democratic society there are smaller incitaments to get independency.

Well you got a point there with your rule, separatist regions tend to lose their will for independence when they notice that they actually are already in a free society and the problem solves itself. The thing is that you base it on historicall facts which is good but not 100% safe becouse there can be a new phenomenum.

Today I saw a video made by some guy from catalonia which wanted independence from "the bull-killing freaks", people were happy to see the video and went on commenting "viva free catalonia" etc. Things like this can lead to global borderanarchy, geopolitical chaos.

If the majority of people living in Catalonia want independency - that is fine for me. But I doubt there is such a majority. Norway got independency from Sweden in 1905, even though Sweden already then was a good society. I think that was OK as well.
