the bassist is rickey minor.he is b.e.t's go to guy for a house band for their award shows and things of the like.he was and may be still whitney houstons musical director.
@Msstrange1 and pngaia - so if you like an artist, no matter what song they sing, they always sing it correct in your view?
Sorry to inform you they don't always sing it perfect. Chaka Kahn couldn't have a bigger fan than I. I, however can differentiate between a great song and a good song. In my eyes and ears, she has and can do better.
I love Chaka Kahn, however, this video/concert was difficult to listen to. The majority of the video has her "lazily" singing the words. You can't even tell what the word was if not knowing the song itself. Sorry Chaka, I have seen and heard you perform much, much better.
@iluvmyboba I love Tony and Chaka together two and for those that don't know Chaka and Tony made amazing music together in Rufus. Tony Maiden is incretible not to mention the show was Motown Live in LA at the time it was a jam session. The house band were great musicians Ricky Minor on bass he does American Idol and the late guitar player from Michael Jackson David Williams I think Chaka did really well knowing it was only a jam not a show that people paid to see...

Chaka blurs the lines between artist and singer all the time.
The off-key notes and lack of enunciation are likely attempts at being THE ARTIST gone amuck.
I give her credit for making some attempts at brilliance, but admonish her for laziness.
Chaka is a walking contradiction, full of delight and disappointment, on and off stage. The former usually makes up for the latter.
