This is beyond bad...blatant rip off of UNI's interlude, and a shitty effort at that. Wow.....I really hope this never catches on...bad song, worse dance moves...AND WAY TOO LONG for a media time out.
@trivedi21 what advice do you have for this? SGs have been trying for years through a variety of ways to get students interested in games - from events with free food to prizes, etc. Ultimately, you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. Instead of all the criticism why not propose some solutions we can try to get students there. Two free tickets doesn't seem to be enough incentive.
@rodgerdodger07 Check Closed Captioning - I posted the steps as Raider Athletics wished for me to do. I posted above that Closed Captioning was available, as well.
i like that the student government is making an effort to try to implement something "new" but i think you're gonna have to try another approach...were not UNI were Wright State "In the Pioneering Spirit of the Wright Brothers"...surely we can come up with something original on our own
As far as SG being a glorified popularity vote i would have to greatly disagree as the team i have working with me this year is extremely hard working and constantly looking for new ways to help students around campus. We are almost all experienced student leaders who have built close relationships with campus administrators and other key individuals in order to better serve the student and make WSU a better university
@WSURaider125 There is no disagreement in that the SG works hard when in office but the election itself is in fact 'a glorified popularity vote.' Students are expected to vote on the SG based on a single paragraph full of buzzwords. Most students vote for SG because of who they know. If they have a friend running for a position or notice someone from their classes, thats who they usually vote for, if they do vote at all.
@trivedi21 Now lets be fair. If nobody else runs then no one can complain about who becomes president and let me tell you, I truly believe after Paul and Nick were elected they picked who they thought were the best people to be on their cabinet. I am not popular at all. I have always kind of been unpopular, but they liked my ideas and asked me to be on the cabinet because they knew I was passionate about the position and would work hard. It is hard to get people to run or even apply for SG.
As far as attendance issues at the game this is some thing that is often discussed by both students and Athletics and we are always trying to come up with new ways to increase attendance. It is a difficult issue but we are still one of the schools with the best attendance in the Horizon league. The large size of our area is misleading as it looks empty even with 8,000 people in attendance.
@WSURaider125 We may have the second highest attendance in the HL behind Butler but I do attend most of the games and that attendance is not made up by our students. The majority are Alumni or people from the surrounding communities. This attendance problem is not just for this current SG, this has been an issue for years and needs to be addressed.
So first and foremost I will identify myself, I am the current Student Government President and I do appreciates everyone's comments on this video. However I am rather discouraged by the negativity that people are expressing. This idea was indeed taken from UNI by members of the Athletics Dept and was handed over to SG to make it more of a student effort. I realize it may not be everyone's cup of tea but it provides one more way for students to have fun at the games.
@WSURaider125 The negativity is a result of this video. None of the moves are even relevant to Wright State. If a lot of time was spent on this dance and choosing this song then thats a misuse of WSUSG's time. We are Wright State named after the Wright Brothers, even using your arms as airplane wings would have represented this university.
@trivedi21 No, we did not design the dance or pick the music. Raider Athletics brought it to us. They had this idea a few months back and did not have time to find anyone to film. They came to SG for help with this. Paul came to us the day of (granted he emailed me a week or so before asking if I could film, which I did with my own film equipment). The video was edited on my time over my break. The dance was done at the end of student work day over break. No SG work time was utilized for this.
@WSURaider125 All im going to say is that you can shoot the AD's ideas down in the future and come up with something original, and don't force a new tradition. We are a young school, tradition will come.
I love Wright State University.I can't imagine being at any other university, but this is near shameless. As it has been said before the energies of this large a group could be so much better coalesced if it was spent trying to increase the bare acknowledgement of other student groups Student government is nothing more than a glorified popularity vote. as a Wright State Raider I feel entitled to give my opinion! In the hopes of a brighter future, Raider UP!
Instead of spending time making dances that no once is going to memorize or even do at the basketball games, the student government should be working on how to get more people to the games. The only games that have crowds are the Valpo and Butler games. What is even more disappointing is that there is a grand total of 200 people at the women's bball games. They have a far better record than the men's team but get no recognition. This dance is not going to help attendance or school spirit.
@trivedi21 I just want to make it clear that Student Government did not come up with the dance or the idea. Raider Athletics brought it to Student Government. It was Raider Athletics who brought it to us and asked us to film it. It was filmed on the fly, at our student work day. We are trying to get more students to the games, but let me tell you, for my demographic (as Director of Disability Affairs) I can only do so much to get students with disabilities to come to games. (cont)
@trivedi21 We face far more challenges like 1. having an accessible ride to the Nutter Center (i.e. over break no shuttles run, during school shuttles only run so late) 2. The Nutter Center makes it difficult for us to get tickets when we get to the Nutter Center, etc. Trust me issues like these are being addressed by student government for all students, but we have to fix the problems with the admin end to make things easier for students to get to games and that takes time!
It was actually inspired by the UNI dance...However there are different moves for that dance and this. They stand up and down, do karate chop/Mr Roboto type moves, etc. There is also different music. This is the Raider version. If you saw both dances you could easily see the differences!
@uniftw10 There were about 10 different moves in this. The UNI dance is mainly the Monkey arms and clapping. I counted about half the amount. Some of the moves were original.
Also, look at all the cheers, alma maters, and other traditions that schools use - many of them are recycled or slightly modified by other schools. Nobody accuses schools of using the Go Team Go cheer, when obviously one school did it first. You never see anyone else complaining when fans do the wave when obviously one teams' fans did it first. UNI had the idea of a techno music timeout first, WSU thought it was a good idea and thus developed a crazy dance, too.
This is beyond bad...blatant rip off of UNI's interlude, and a shitty effort at that. Wow.....I really hope this never catches on...bad song, worse dance moves...AND WAY TOO LONG for a media time out.

I think I have solved this problem, the new tradition should be actually going to the games.

@DominickMEvans The only difference is the music...the moves are the same you just do them in a different order.
As original as one of todays singers doing a remake of a song from the 60s and calling it their own....
