  • I almost got this, but I went with the Police G10 instead.

  • howd you polish it that nice? sandpaper?

  • @gcboyallday This was done with a series of power wheels and buffing compounds. There are several steps before you can get a total mirror finish like this.

  • @Taz0161 I tried different power wheels with buffing compound that worked amazing on my guns, but NOT 8Cr13MoV hmmm, any tips for me? you can message me if youd like.

  • Yup, gave me a little cut on the side of my midddle finger trying a one-handed close. Probably best for me to stay with a two-handed one.

  • @SerpentLord666 I think every one of 3 people I've known to possess this knife has done that. That's a real design flaw

  • Dang this blade looks good!

I see the laser ingraved Spyderco logo is gone though... :I

Ah well, that's the price of the beautiful mirror finish.

What's your opinion about the blade's rust resistence?

With its factory finish 8Cr13MoV is kinda prone to develop rust spots on all brands (Kershaw, Spyderco etc. ) . I suppose it's more resilient now, isn't it?

  • @atokombeled Yes polishing the blade makes it repel moisture. Watch my utilitac video I give a demo on the subject

  • @Taz0161

    Thank you!

    I'll check it out!

  • You should do a video on that polishing process. That would be sick.

  • OMG bro that's awesome!!! How did you get the mirror finish? Can you post the step by step process? Looks GREAT good job.

  • Can that kind of polishing be done by hand or do you really need special equipment? I'd like to get my Spyderco tenacious looking like that.

  • @martinaee This was done with a series of power wheels and buffing compounds. There are several steps before you can get a total mirror finish like this.

  • Hey,

Can you please tell the steps in the polishing process. How do you remove the bead blasted or stone washed finish and bring to a mirror finish. Are there 3 steps on a buffing wheel or more?

    Thanks,

    MG

  • @mgutekunst1 You have my e mail address. send me a photo of the blade so I can see just how agressive the bead blasting is

  • that blade looks awesome polished

  • OK, I need to get my tenacious mirrored out. Call me.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  • Hello Alan,

Do you still have this mirror finished resilience for sale? I would like to buy it?

    Mark

  • @mgutekunst1 Aw Dude it just sold yesterday to a fellow in New Mexico. I'll be doing some more here pretty soon. In the meantime , I got your cell # I'll give you a buzz sometime after supper this evening and we can work out doing your tenacious. LOL I've been swamped with requests this week for everything from Spyderco knives to someone with a ZT 0300 that wants me to take off what's left of that famous DLC ( Doesn't Last Coating ) and polish it out.

  • @Taz0161 did you polish the blade yourself? if so, would you polish one of my blades if i pay you?

  • @thewistleboy Yes but let me get caught up a little bit here first. I'm swamped with orders

  • @Taz0161 ok thanks, do you know how long that will be?

  • @thewistleboy Ahhhhhhhhhhhh , I would say give me about a week.

  • where is the cheapest place to get this knife/?

  • @jojo1026 Your best bet would be E bay. They are running right around the $35.00 to $40.00 mark

  • @jojo1026 I would trust amazon over ebay, I think it may be cheaper as well + free shipping.

  • @VengeanceIV Yes I'm inclined to agree. These days E Bay seems to be turning into a cesspool of crooks and scammers , and the E bay staff doesn't seem to be interested in doing anything about it. I guess the way they see it , for every account they suspend or delete , that's money they lose in selling fee's. It's all about the dough

  • Nice polishing

  • Have you ever thought of stone washing that blade now that it's mirror polished? I mirror polished my tenacious then tumbled the blade in some medium tumbling media and the finish looks very nice and smooth but no longer shows finger prints. It almost resembles the smooth tumbled look of a benchmade osbore 940.

  • Hey Alan,

Beautiful knife, you do good work!

    Great reivew, thanks for sharing.

    Peace, Duane

  • Very nice! yeah My first impression was hey!! what?? the finish on that knife is awesome! I remember when I got my first Tenacious and the finish sucked! So I had to polish it. then you explained you fixed it and I was like you rock!

  • @MountainMonsters Thanks man. I think it's a really well built knife but unfortunately when it comes to that nice final finish the Chinese will always be the Chinese LOL.

  • @Taz0161 haha my thoughts exactly! =-D

  • Good honest review about a decent no-nonsense knife.

Congratulations with the impressive polishing work on the blade !

I won't buy it as I have the similarly sized Military already, but it's an interesting (though heavier) "Military for those on a budget".

  • I love the polish job you did on it! Looks sexy, man.

I have the Tenacious, and I'm looking into getting this cause i love these knives so much. And the steel on them is 8Cr13MoV. I've found that it sharpens up just as easily as AUS8, and you can put a razor sharp edge on blades of that steel. But it's softer then AUS8, so it wont hold an edge as. But as long as the heat treatment is good, an 8Cr13MoV blade will be just as sharp, and easier to re-sharpen.

    Dan.

  • @sherman614 So far the edge holds up pretty well. Been using it for stuff like boxes and feed sacks , and my bro in law already proved on his thumb what a defense knife it could be ROFLMAO.

  • It'd be great if manufacturers offered more knives with a finish like you've put on that Spyderco, it's very classy indeed! A good deal on that knife too.

  • @raindog951 They did years ago , if you remember a lot of the old WR Case knives came with beautiful finishes. But of course these days it's all about the money and mirror finishing blades is a labor intensive process. I think that's why cutlery companies like ZT , TOP'S and Strider really worked hard premoting this tactical thing. It's a way to sell people over to these bead blasted & black coated blades and they get to skip the whole final fit and finishing process , and charge you more.

  • @raindog951 unfortunately I don't think your going to find a mirror finished blade these days unless it's on a $600.00 custom or you pay someone like me to do it.

  • @Taz0161 I think you're right on both counts. Nothing can beat a mirror finish, but you have to pay good money for it now. I might have a bash at doing it on one of my cheap knives. It'll have to be done by hand running through grades of wet and dry paper, and polish, but worth it I reckon.

  • If you have a high speed buffing wheel it's actually a 3 step process. 1st you go over the blade with a fine wire wheel , this takes out all the blems and gives the blade a nice even texture. 2nd you go over the blade with the black emery compound. This removes all the brush marks and gives the blade a solid smooth surface. Finally you finish off the blade with the grey stainless rouge and this brings out the mirrored surface. Now you see why most knife manufacturers want to skip this process

  • @Taz0161 Thanks for the tips Taz! I've copied this to my files. I don't have a buffing wheel but they're pretty cheap to buy, and the thought of nice shiny blades is very tempting indeed. I have a Himalayan Imports Kukri which has a finish like on that Spyderco, but it cost over a hundred dollars for it. Worth every penny though. If a western manufacturer offered it they'd charge double or triple that I reckon.

  • @raindog951 probably triple LOL. I forgot to mention that if you buy yourself a power wheel set up ,when your doing the compound buffing , do it slow so the blade doesn't over heat because you can get burn marks on the surface and it's back to step one.

  • @Taz0161 Ta! I'll take it nice and gentle :-)

  • You always do a good polish. Looks great. That choil thing would probably get me eventually.. lol..

  • @knivesandstuff Oh yeah this knife will bite you LOL

  • Great video! Very important not to cut your thumb, that's what Cutlerylover did during his review of the Tenacious. You did a great job on the finish of that blade.

  • @thecajunblaze I was looking for that video and couldn't find it. He must have taken it down. I have been into the blade thing for years , I even turned out a few custom boot daggers in the past. But with the nations current economic situation no one wants to blow $500.00 on a knife so I haven't gotten any orders for nearly 20 months. As far as the blade finish goes , thanks for the compliment. I usuallly charge $40.00 to $50.00 to mirror finish a blade depending on the amount of work.

  • @thecajunblaze The last knife I custom mirror finished was a Entrek Badger. Now that was some work because of the very agressive bead blasting but in the end it was beautiful.

  • Nice polishing!! Love it!

  • @oromoto Thanks for the compliment

  • Nice polishing job you did on that one! ~Israel

  • @WeAllJuggleKnives Thanks Bud

  • @WeAllJuggleKnives I just so happen to be doing a Utilitac 2 that someone sent me to be mirror finished :) I'll post the a video before I ship it back to him.
