  • This is Impresionant Technology and syncronization.

  • Achievement Unlocked: Win at life.

  • How does the electricity you can't see travel to that light tube? :O

  • @david1991rules4life magic thats why GE had tesla ruined

  • @david1991rules4life Something really cool. There is current being transfer via induction. The AC induction field energizers (excites) the phosphorus coating and gases in the fluorescent tube(s), making them glow.

  • So, what kind of igbt's are you using in those coils? it must be some heck of a brick bank! Also, what's the fres of a coil that size?

  • lets add a strobe and a black light to the act

  • yea OK buddy... with your interesting facial hair.

  • @silverandteal you should see it now... im way more scruffy.

  • @StrengthBeyondgym def re-film the interview lol

  • wonder if the guys with the flourescent tube thought they were at a Static on X concert.

  • This vid really amped up my enthusiasm for tesla coils.

  • The guy in that vid is so awesome, such a down to earth guy.

  • heheheh not really, im pretty irritating once you get to know me. :-)

  • Modulated Arc FTW!

  • Holy crap this shit is amazing.

That dr.who theme is fucken epic.

ELECTRIC AUDIO MODULATOR FOR THE WIN !!!

  • Oh, this shit is stunning! I really feel electryfied...

  • Can i Touch it?

  • @julieail no

  • great song, awesome method. Makes me yearn for burning man.

  • OH MY GOD WE'VE UNLOCKED WIN.

  • Judas!!

  • HI REDDIT.

  • hello fello redditor

  • Dudes, you just rock.... electrically!

  • I think my face melted at just how awesome this is. How did I not know about this? Now I can't wait for MetroCon!

  • Metrocon is gonna be my first con, im all kinds of stoked...are you doing cosplay?

  • I'll be there as Trowa. Look for me. ^^

  • It's not really hard to make Tesla coil. But i never seen it audio modulated. Grand respect guys. It's fantastic! And sound very breathy and interest. Coo(i)L!

  • Bet they don't compy with FCC Part 15 rules!

  • OMG!!!

  • Which Popcorn version that?

  • its the arcattack version :-) we just re-recorded it.

  • Where was this performed? Looks like the Maker Faire in Austin.

  • Yep, that's where we filmed it!

  • very cool! i gotta see that some day in person :)

  • If you can "audio-modulate thunder" as musical tones, how difficult would it be to create a speaking voice out of thunder?

    :)

An intriguing idea, I hope you pursue it.

  • We've done it before years back. Haven't really touched on the idea since, but I may have a video somewhere of it. I'll see if I can find it. It sounds crunchy, and after you get used to it you can understand it for the most part.

  • Would be next impossible since a DRSSTC coil is very bad in polyphonic sounds by nature. With a SSTC this would be possible. Just search youtube for singing teslacoil and click on the small one in a cage.

  • wow

  • you can get some great sawtooth sounds from those tesla coils.

  • Why is there a guy that thinks hes a jedi?

  • lol, he's holding a fluo light tube.. Have you noticed that it lights up with no power sources? Just like the tubes located on the tesla coils' pedestals...

  • why the 'dont try this at home'?

its not like i know any people that can get a tesla coil xD

  • Hee! my dad's a physics prof. I guess I could technically do this at home...If I were reallllly brave.

  • well, since hes a prof a physics, try licking it once hes set it up. thats probly alot of fun ;D

  • its a florescent light to monior the electricity going into the tesla tower

  • The first song is an original ArcAttack tune, titled "equipment failure".

  • Thanks, thats the best tune on this video. I'd pay royalties if you can split that into loops!

  • Thanks for the complement! We can work that out as soon as we finish recording our album.

  • whats the name of the song they play at 4:00?

  • Popcorn

  • 1st one I don't know, second one is Popcorn, third is the one from Doctor Who.

  • The killer must run from the killer barker. Not nalts doing the stunts!

  • now all you need is some Tesla Oscillators, better known as "earthquake machines" :P very cool vid!

  • Comment removed

  • What was the first tune they played?

  • arc atack need to come to all good this summer.

  • really interesting! way cool! its fun to see something so different.

  • the thing about it is, the lightning comes quicker than the sound so you dont hear it in sync with the lightning :/

  • Are you sure about that? Seems pretty synchronized to me!

  • that's way cool :D

  • That's some precision lightning!

  • nice!!

  • Thats awsome! music from tessla cloils?!!!?? It even sounds good. I want a recording of it so I can rhyme on it!!!! Do you make loops? can I buy loops off you?!

  • Is this better than doing acid at a Grateful Dead concert?

  • i didn't think this was going to be that great but it is actually pretty awesome

  • That's what she said.

  • ZING!

  • :-D

  • This WOULD be cool, IF I were a robot ...

  • Neat but kinda boring.

  • Boring? I don't where where you get that. This is more than awesome..

  • I was going to say it ruins the purpose of going to a show but I changed my mind. I would so rather go to this lol!

  • ok i dont get why these comments i'm posting aren't going under the comment i'm replying too... a little confused here...

  • Ryan likes hot asian men

  • Yeah, I go for more of a side-to-side then up and down motion. : )

  • LadiesBoy92 (Lmfao at the nick), you're lust too embarassing.. Please, go away... You make me feel ashamed for you.

  • awesome. really liking the music and sounds

  • Thanks dude!

  • kewl!

  • UCD rocks

  • I like to see what happens when someone throws a cup of water on one of those tesla coils.

  • lol u are a sad.. sad.. angry person.

good luck ruining ur own life. people like you take too much for granted and you only realize it on your deathbed - when it's too late.

  • These are classics.. maybe you do not like them, but most people appreciate them.

  • Nothing special. Would be better if people were actually there watching.

  • the concept of this comment is ridiculous...

  • its at maker faire in an area. there were hundreds of people. :-)

  • learn a bit about production and the concept of a news packet. obviously the guys making this film didn't remember to get crowd shots / reactions on their b roll. they were smart, however, in choosing to film the testing/interviews before the show, as the lights are out during the performance.

  • Exactly.

  • Hey Spunky: Thanks for the advice. One of the reasons I didn't get crowd shots was because there were serious time issues that weekend (this is one in a series of about 12 videoes shot that weekend.) The other reason is that if I got close enough to catch a crowd shot reaction, even with zooming in, the electrical discharge from the Tesla coils would literally damage the camera.

  • Check out the dude with the fluorescent bulb during the first section. The Teslas make the bulb light up.

  • That's really awesome.

  • It's electronic why not make electronic music? I'd love to see this at dance club thumping beats & acid lines.

  • I love this thing! you people are genious!!! OMG! Come to Mexico please!!!

  • the next big thing

  • I like the way you think!

  • Really cool

  • it's pretty sweet. but now the first time ive seen it. I first saw a guy do it with a keyboard connected to a coil and making sound and music with the coil.

  • TIMMAAY

    LBaaaathaaadaaa

  • A mazing

  • They should do the 5 note melody from Close Encounters of the Third Kind - you know, in different octaves and tempos like the did at the end of the movie.

  • I love those vids!

  • Thanks dude, we work hard to produce them!

  • Unlike pepsi and mentos, you can't buy these in a shop.

  • It's true that a lot of people have picked up on this over the past few years, but we developed this technology originally back in 2005. Also, we're the first performance art group to implement it on a large scale. I like the fact that we've inspired people to educate themselves and build similar machines.

  • ...Both of which I'm sure you've watched a thousand times you wanna be nerd. If you have half a mind to look this sh*t up then you should have the capacity to tell the difference between a neat parlor trick and scientific awesomeness that actually pumps the music through the coils. If this isn't cool to you, then you must sh*t lead and turn it into gold daily. Hope your intellectual appreciation grows.

  • awesome, in its original sense of the word, ie: i am in awe.

  • I was having such a horrible day and after watching this video, it totally helped bringing up my spirits. Thanks for posting!

  • Be sure to keep up with us and subscribe to our videos! (on the top right)!

  • That guy is a wallet klepto. You can keep the wallet, just give me back my garbage pail kids cards and my antique french tickler.

  • well i used the french tickler and the garbage pail kids cards at the same time, but id be willing to send them anyways

  • He stole my wallet too.

  • It will change my life 4 Shure... why is he talking sucha bullshit?

  • That's what John does.

  • theres a video where someone playing the radio through one of these things... bit more impressive than buzzing tones :P

  • What you are referring to is a PWM audio coil, while cool, they can't be built to this large of a scale because the draw so much power. We've built a few high fidelity coils too, but these machine are definitely more of a crowd pleaser.

  • Check out the guy holding the Fluorescent light at around 0:40! It lights up by itself! By the way, the video HAS to be seen in HD. it looks much, much better!

  • Old trick - he is holding it in a magnetic field which induces an AC current in the lamp.

  • Yeah, but it's impressive nonetheless.

  • 500,000 volts ,how many amps do you let go through if any.

  • not much, I doubt this thing could kill you. Mess you your nervous system maybe.. and hurt really really bad. but probably not kill.

  • although someone stole your wallet, your work is genius!

  • How is this baloney? p.s. this guy stole my wallet too.

  • THAT GUY STOLE MY WALLET!

  • Wow, the Doctor Who theme really "electrified" me! :) Seriously, that kicked some serious butts.

  • that rocks.

  • Gotta love electric doctor who!

  • I really should go back to the editing room and render out some MP3s of Tesla coil covers.
