Why didnt Slade crack the US they should have they were the best act around in the 70s! Good fun they didnt take themselves seriously maybe a band needs ego to crack the US> IT is a mystery right up there with Atlantis, UFOs
Everyone seems to stroke their stinky about Slade... I guess I never gave them a chance after that gay-ass 'run away' tune. and they look extremely dorky...
well, this is news to me! its dreadful, especially the terrible vocals,,but interesting to know that Van Halen had covered it at all! the irony of EVH playing Dave Hill riffs is not lost on me !!!! thanks for posting it!
Great find!!! Around the time of this recording Slade had been living in the States for two years, trying to catch a break. When they went home they were no-where for the next 3 years. Probably why this version went un-noticed.
Without doubt the most awesome live band I ever saw - all 36 times!!!
@TheGibson5150 You are right. Slade is awesome. If anyone searches "Slade songs" you will be shocked how many you know and if you don't know them, learn them; they have been copied a LOT for style and even gestures and movement by KISS. Most people don't know that.
@TheGibson5150 Slade was fantastic. They never got the credit they deserved for their infectiously catchy tunes & charisma, especially here in the States, thanks to the music company shitbags. I only really came to love Slade in recent years because of them. NOBODY could belt it out like the great Noddy Holder.
@MrShoeMart You are so right. The way I misreported this is simple; this is reported in the Van Halen Encyclopedia on page 95 as being an original song by VH. That was published in 1998. I thought it was familiar and there's a good reason!
what a badass riff! god van halen rocked back then and had so much untapped raw talent! They need to re record these and put them out on some special CD!
@codyjt5150 Actually it IS enhanced with a tweak of all the bass all the way down, down, down, past zero, into the negative, cuz it was THUMPING to begin with. I think it's actually 100 percent clearer and better than the original! The highs I put higher and the mids were too low. It's a lot better, with one other adjustment; overall volume is higher. So it COULD be much worse! Trust me!

Isn't this available on the Van Halen album '"Live Anthology 1975-1981"?
And I agree, Slade are the most underrated band of all time!

this must have been during their vh vs. quiet riot, slade cover, battle period? ;p
this was good, but qr and du brow's noddy holder sounding vocals, really nailed the slade sound

horrible quality sound but still a really good find. if it was better quality sound (if it's possible) it would be a lot better.
