including 'stripper/topless' dancing ! :)) .. and use of Brentwood Ursaline School Jacket ( remember John Harty?) ... and beyond ... Mods Mayday at Bridge House? .... oh .. and a copy of the KONK/GONK? ( neva sure) tapes? ... Fridays at Barking? - sats at Bridge House canning town?..I could go on ... but PLEASE dont say Carnaby St Jacket ...
The jacket? Carnaby Street?? lol!! - what absolute bollocks!! .. this was bought in Brick Lane (sunday) market and given to DC next day .. (when he owned a white triumph stag (class!) ..- and i know .. i bought it!! ..and i was there from day one - (inc pre-school local varitey show !!).. still have the programme)... first gig (pre-SC) at Loughton College when they were support to "Cafe Racers".. aka (later) Dire Straits ..thru to New Hearts..
this is top! i saw them supporting the jam in 1977 and they played this, they were great and should have been more succsessful! also,my cousins husband is a dj on the local city radio and he played it once- i was driving but it took me straight back to that gig and being 17 again and that made melaff out loud for joy! i must have looked a right nutter to the other drivers, but so what!!
Saw them play Wolves civic hall in 79. Fantastic gig. The whole town was full of mods after the gig. I used to buy original secondhand 60's mod suits from Dudley market. None of that two tone crap
who did they think they were kidding. MOD was well dead by then, not maybe the look, or its influences, but the whole thing was gone. The jam were MOD/punk/new wave and as for thre other band well they were basically crap. This is a good song, but never enough to get a generation turned on to MOD. punk was dying and casual was coming through. nice tune tho, but pointless clarion call etc
@daylighttitans No that was what Ian PAge was weraing DAve Cairns at 0:24 seconds is wearing a regency jacket which he still has in fact and it is mohair not tonic.
MOD FEST: on the 1st and 2nd of april 2011 with FROM THE JAM, SECRET AFFAIR, THE LAMBRETTAS AND PURPLE HEARTS. For more info go to Mod Fest on facebook.
My God that takes me back, jam shoes ( the cool black ones with white stripes) boating blazer and tonic trousers, thrashing the tits out my Lambretta, fantastic.
This is absolutely brilliant! To think I was once that young. I can't thank you enough for this trip down memory lane. Now to fire up the lawn mower to relive some of that 2-stroke engine smell. Aaaah, memories.....
does anyone remember ian pages pre secret affair group the new heartsi thought their first single 'just another teenage anthem ' was v.good.i saw 'em supporting the jam at hammersmith odeon
great track , but lets face it , my world was the one , stick ye r and b , rap , britpop , and all the mindless , aimless , modern mass produced shite were the sun dont shine , !!!! god i have turned into me old fella
ah the heady days of 1979 and the mod revival, takes me back to my parka, slim black ties and pork pie hats, halcyon days indeed.
i must be getting really old now, cos i realise i am starting to dress like i did then, having just bought some fred perry shirts and a trilby hat.
i did actually see secret affair, at st andrews university and they were actually a really nice bunch of guys, i think it was seb shelton who even got me a bottle of newcastle brown to drink with him after the gig.
@biggayone That's alright. In Florida now and am a 47-year-old bicyclist who looks like a greying skatepunk. As long as you feel comfortable then right on.
Secret Affair are as about as far away as you can get from the Jam (pardon the pun) - Iooking forward to seeing them @ The Picturedrome, HoImfirth, Nov 28th!
Ah, used to bounce around my bedroom to my big brothers copy of this. Funny looking back though, why after punk was there suddenly this revival of teenage tribes - teds, skinheads, mods?
Mod since birth in 93. I have been grouping mods together and starting local scenes. Some say mods are gone, but were still here we have just lost organization. Help bring the mods back together fighting their way back into the streets....... MODS ARE GO!!!!!.....
Was a Mod in the early 80's- never really left me....Also it never went out, because its always on the underground..Where it should be...It's all about knowing ;-)
brilliant band was a fan back in the day, they should have had been bigger but made the mistake of tagging themselves to the mod revival.. still who am i to judge,,
Agree with you there-that was always my complaint about this video that the girls were very unmod and looked out of place against the suited blokes.I can only say that I wiuld not have been seen dead with a wedge haircut & was better dressed!
I was also at The IOW Planet Arena and it was rammed, looking forward to seeing them at Hammersmith Apollo on Dec 22nd nearly 30 years after they first played there.
Never ceases to amaze me why bitter people like this twat jo-blob job visit sites of bands they clearly hate....must be a very sad little life..one of the downsides of the internet - everyone's a music critic these days, the irony is that the more idiots like this keeping bitching, the more attention they bring to this great band.
Furthermore....the mod revival got bad press due to people not understanding that they did not go out as a mod band actually but were adopted by mods who became known as Glory Boys.
Jojoblowjob or whatever your name is....um funny you should say all that cos they just had a sellout show of 2,500 mods/scooterists and fans that DO want to listen to them actually.A huge fan base that stretches from UK-USA-Japan and a dedicated following. If you knew your facts you would realize that Ian Page didnt even write Time For Action Dave Cairns did in fact-so it can hardly be "one mans quest to get back at the punks who hated new hearts" and actually when they were NEW HEARTS you idiot.
what is it with you lot ! this band were terrible then and are still. They are very deluded if they think that any self respecting mod would want to listen to their stuff now . page is one of the reasons the mod "revival " got such bad press and decent folk like myself got the brunt of ignorant twats violence . time for action aint an anthem , its one mans quest to get back at the punks who hated the new hearts !.thus causing a divide between tribes and stirring up ignorance and hate >
Oh and Blow job (jam fan whatever) there are plenty of people that DO wanna listen to Secret Affair-the Astoria show has sold out so fat chance of you getting a ticket (shame)still Im sure you will be there for From The Jam when they are there as special guests?Look out for me I will be at the front cheering them on....
and your point is? from the jam are shit ! agreed ! As ive said skill and no fire ! . they would be sad enough to support your beloved secret affair .
and if you want to reply then at least back it up with some sort of basis for an arguement . "blow job " ha ha ! thats so funny . I see your wit and musical taste have not left the playground. Proves my initial point about page and his followers . time for a re-think me thinks .
i know his band were the new hearts ! the punks hated them and they reinvented themselves as a shit 60s band who no body cared about .So they jumped onto the mod thing , picked up a the hangers on and went on the "mod tours " remember modsmayday79?. they tried to distance themselves and divide the scene with their glory boy thing > i never said page wrote it did I! he was their leader and front man and was very vocal about his hatred of the punks .
I'm a skinhead but I mean I do like the old Mod revival stuff it does sound good, stuff like The Jam, Nine Below Zero, Merton Parkas, Secret Affair. Us traditional skins have alot in common with our mod brothers and sister. we love lookin smart love good music.
Just loaded the Time For Action "Anthology" double cd onto my ipod......... Let your heart dance, my world, time for action, going to a go go, I'm not free (but i'm cheap) ........... god i wish it was still 79/80 ...... Ian Page is still kicking around, bit of a porker now though! have a look on secretaffairdotcom. . .
Yoyr message doesnt make any sense...were you drunk when you typed it...?Probably.
Actually they werent "one hit wonders" mate-they had three top twenty hits actually with Time For Action (reached number 13),My World and Sound of Confusion.
Always thought that this band was a cut above the rest.
